Songs in Commercials

It is possible that a thread like this exists, but we all hear great songs in commercials every once in awhile, and always wonder what they are. We all also hear a song, and know we've heard it before in some commercial or TV show, and can never remember.

I sent a friend "The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack" by Liars recently and he swears he's heard it on a show or commercial and wanted me to ask about it, so now we can have a thread for all questions of this nature, should anyone have any.

One of my favorite bands is a band I discovered through a commercial. They're called Sleepy Rebels, and I heard their song Kaleidoscope on a JC Penny commercial. The lead singer has such a beautiful voice. If you look at their myspace, that's actually me at number 7 in their top 8.

There is that Oasis song used in every AT&T commercial, though...

I would be a little more excited about seeing the Verve if that jewelry store commercial hadn't destroyed Bittersweet Symphony over the holidays. That commercial was on every five minutes.

I get calls once in a while from friends about this fantastic commercial with awesome song (Space Dementia - sang by my most favorite band) made by a great director (also a top fave of mine) with a super gorgeous actress (Whew!) in it. "Is that Muse?! It's in one of the CDs you gave to me, right?"

and ever since apple put CSS' "music is my hot, hot sex" on the ipod touch commercial, i've grown more and more pissed. stupid stupid sorority girls walk through parties asking for "the ipod song" or "music is my girlfriend."

I feel like NPR's filler music used to be better. I mean, it's still good music, but it used to be really clever in that the music played before/after a piece would almost always relate to the topic of the story. Now it's more often just pretty transition noise. It's too bad.

And about NPR, I've noticed they play a lot of Ratatat in between segments

And since someone brought up that Wong Kar Wai - Muse - Eva Green commercial - I'm wondering if anyone else notices how freaking cheesy that commercial gets about half way through.

Wong Kar Wai's is great and the first half is straight butter, but that cheesy clock, bad stairway effect and stupid, seventies cop movie framing of Eva inexplicably jumping across a crowd just makes me squirm every time I see it.

Yeah I remember that. They ran a story on Marketplace about the end of Polariod cameras, and they played the song "Polaroid" by Curve (early 2000's). I also remember a story about the Greek fires (sometime last year?), and they played "This Fire" by Franz Ferdinand. That one was almost creepy/inappropriate if anyone remembers how that song goes.
