Customs are amazing. Also great because you can change filters depending on environment.

I use non-disposable Hear-os, and they are pretty good. Customs cost like $150+, don't they?
    I miss talking to TomAz.

We all do. I live in the same city as him (unless he relocated) and rumor has it that at 3:15am if you listen closely and its really really quiet you can hear him telling you to go fuck yourself.

I ran into theses guys while working the NAMM show

I worked all four days in the TRX Cymbals booth and went to see Muse at Staples Saturday night and my hearing and voice were intact come Monday morning. These are the flattest attenuation I've heard in a non fitted earplug. Quite comfortable too!

I go to concerts all the time and there's never been a time wear my ears hurt from the sound but then again I might've already f'd up my hearing to begin with since I'm always wearing headphones full blast. But on the positive side, I don't care much for what anyone has to say anyway, so it's not really a negative. Plus kinda feels like it defeats the purpose of a concert, unless you're literally next to the stage or the performers themselves you really shouldnt NEED them.

Definitely gonna get some since I plan on being up front for Dinosaur Jr. I was also like 75% deaf until i was five, my hearing was equivalent to that under water. All i remember is many nights with excruciating pain and blood coming out of my ears. I had many surgeries on them (don't know what kind) so i'm pretty good now, although all my friends do make fun of me for saying WHAT? all the time. I don't even notice it aha.

I only wear mine at at festivals when you are exposed to loud music for 6+ hours at a time. 20 bucks on amazon, well worth it.

Sad. Your parents should have taken you to the doctors well before your middle ear fluid built up so much that your eardrums burst from the pressure. Pressure Equalization tubes were probably inserted eventually, but still. Much of it was preventable - as is hearing loss due to loud noise.

I've said it in here numerous times, but I highly recommend investing in a pair of customs if you go to shows all the time. They literally just take out the bad stuff and knock the dB levels down (variable amounts, depending upon the filters you use with them.) Everything else sounds exactly how it would without plugs. Well worth the ~$180 to get them made if you play or attend shows.

For those with customs, where did you get them (link if online please)?
Trying to see what the best/most popular customs are so I can get some.

Not really possible to get customs online. You need to find a local audiologist who will inject a substance into your ears to get a mold, then sent off to factory. Look on the etymotic site, they may have a list of providers near you. Many ENT docs have an audiologist on staff as well.

They really do. And the high pitched shrieks from obnoxious girls that are often louder than the band.

Not always. I could still hear the obnoxious girl behind me during Bat For Lashes who wouldn't shut the hell up while she was waiting for Major Lazy, I mean, Lazer.

https://www.acscustom.com/us/index.p...ing-protection I just got a pair of these custom ones. The Pro 17's. They are definitely the best ones I've ever used. Way more comfortable than the $20 ones and sounds much better. They have a shop in Burlingame (and one in LA somewhere I think) so I went in and they did the molds for free. I might get another filter for more protection at extra loud concerts. I had noticed a slight ringing in my ears so I know I needed to take it seriously before it got worse. Best $150 I've spent in a while.
    Edit: I got the 17's

Never followed up but i ended up getting custom Westone earplugs. Have a couple different filters—greatest purchase I’ve ever made.

For those of you in the LA area who are wondering where to get custom molds made, call here and make an appt

    https://www.southbayhearing.com/

I have two pairs of customs from them and the latest pair reduces sound levels by 25dB across various frequencies while allowing clear sound in. I cannot reverse whatever hearing loss I have already experienced, but the ringing in my ears has lessened over time as a result of wearing them consistently. They are amazing.

Any audiologist can do it and most Ear, Nose, and Throat docs have one in the office.

Also, I have always used 15db filters since I got my customs around 10 years ago and they have been perfect in every club to festival I’ve attended, 25 can be a little overkill for most though I assume with you already having hearing loss that’s the reason for the extra protection?

Yes that's accurate. I will also add that the larger in-ear molds for the 25dB vs the 15dBs (which I also have) can be pulled out about half-way yet still sit comfortably in my ear canal. Makes it really easy to have a quick conversation in between sets or micro-adjust them to the loudness of the music without taking them out completely. The 15dBs I usually have to pull completely in/out to accommodate all situations.

I followed sonnyboy11's advice and got a pair of the ACS Pros (I went with the 17dB because of the accuracy) and have really enjoyed them. You can read about their different models on their website: https://www.acscustom.com/us/index.p...ing-protection

Being in San Diego, I called their NY headquarters number and they put me in touch with a very nice local rep who met me near my home and did the mold, then had the earplugs shipped to me.

I also have the Pro17s. Custom ear plugs really are a game-changer. A few things that may not have been mentioned:
-- If you go with ACS, they will keep your mold on file indefinitely. I got my first plugs in 2012 and had to get a replacement pair in 2016 (lost em in a Savages pit at FYF one year). Called the NY office and they found my mold.
-- You can insert a different set of dB filters. So if you're gonna see MBV, you may want to have a set of 30dB filters. ha
-- Cleaning is easy. Dish soap and warm water.
-- They're really comfortable. The material is silicone and I hardly notice they're in.
