This one far less talented than Layne Staley.

OD'd in Bloomington, MN while on tour.

edit: Scott Weiland, now that it's public.

edit: I figured out you meant Weiland as soon as I saw the city. The venues he was supposed to play here looked awful and tiny. Not surprised but sad for his family

I saw a shitty solo set of him in 98 and a pretty great STP set 2 years later. I wish I could have caught them again when I was older.

Damn I know he hasn't been all that good the past 5 years or so but STP was my first favorite band as a kid so I am still a bit saddened by this.

Given his past history and life style I'm a bit surprised this didn't happen a while ago though.

When I first posted it, I didn't include the name. Info was based on a text from a friend who knew law enforcement involved and it hadn't gone public yet.

RIP. Core and Purple got a lot of play from me in my high school days. Never saw STP b/c I don't think they ever came around to our area, but I did see Velvet Revolver before they released their first album.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

Bull. When you posted without a name, a quick google search pulled up four sites with the news. Don't be annoying.

I have to echo the sentiment that, while sad, this isn't overly surprising. Dude has been on a downward trend for a decade and a half. I loved STP and will miss his oddness.

Always liked STP. Only saw them once when they first got back together several years ago. Sad to see anyone die from something like this though. After seeing that footage of him performing Vaseline clearly under the influence of something heavy back in April, it really was just a matter of time I guess. RIP

Saw STP play 6 times from '00 until '09, I think, with one Weiland solo show sprinkled in between. Sadly, the last show I saw them in Phoenix at Comerica was easily their worst since Weiland was all fucked up on whatever.

Like others have said, it's sad, but not surprising whatsoever.

Feel free to look at the timestamp of my post about it in the Guess the 2016 lineup thread (https://www.coachella.com/forum/show...=1#post3039143 @ 8:44 pm PST, 11:44 pm EST) and compare it with any other public information. Like this:

Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro announced the news of Weiland's passing in a since-deleted tweet shortly after midnight EST. "Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died," he wrote. "So gutted, I am thinking of his family tonight."

    http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...#ixzz3tN8wmkYV

Or the TMZ article posted at 9:07pm PST. http://www.tmz.com/2015/12/03/scott-weiland-dead/

I don't run around motoraving unless I actually know shit. In this case I did.

Now go finger yourselves into a coma.

This is sadly no surprise, but still a bummer.

He had a great voice and was sexy as shit.

I found a Velvet Revolver t-shirt abandoned in the Main/Outdoor beer garden in 2004 that is one of my most favorite t-shirts of all time. It's the perfect faded red softness.

    RIP

not to wish death on anyone, but can Eddie Vedder be next?

Having grown up with it in it's height of publicity and output, you'd have to say grunge really hasn't aged well and can't think of one record I still listen to from that era. Like Sabbath or Led Zep, it's music is for the ignorance of adolescence. For sixteen year olds not showering days on end and smoking cigarette butts they picked up off the ground.

Am wearing a flannel shirt this very moment, but only because it's cold and my throat has a bit of an itch.

I don't really care if Eddie Vedder is alive or dead, was just offering a preferred option. Rather have him gone than Chris "Pipes" Cornell. Even though I haven't gone out of my way to hear either of their creative outputs lately.

    Waz up with Grunge?
