Columbus Poised to Create First Fashion and Music Festival – Labor Day 2014
COLUMBUS, OHIO – Fashion Meets Music Festival, FMMF, has announced Labor Day weekend 2014 as the date of its inaugural festival in Columbus, Ohio. The three day event debuts a unique combination, fusing two complementary art forms, music and fashion, together as one entertainment platform experience.
“Fashion and music have always informed, infused, and influenced one another – from Elvis’ blue suede shoes and The Ramones’ iconic leather jackets, to Gaga’s outlandish gear and Daft Punk’s robo-wear, fashion and music simply inspire and further each other’s expressions,” said FMMF Communications Director, Melissa Dickson.
The festival, featuring seven indoor and outdoor stages, two fashion performance stages complete with runways, an urban campground, and a fashion and music retail marketplace located in the Columbus Convention Center, will make its appearance in the epicenter of the Arena District Friday August 29th thru Sunday the 31st. The Arena District is home to Nationwide Arena, the LC Pavilion, Huntington Park, Nationwide Boulevard, and McFerson Commons – all of which are poised to participate in the unique festival.
“This is an exciting and unparalleled festival footprint,” said Greg Poppel, Director of Operations. It’s unique in that it isn’t in a field or a designated area, it resides in the crosshairs of the 15th largest city in the United States. Operationally, we are consummating a new experience for Columbus combining retail, fashion, and music as a collaboration – all in one place, at one time.”
FMMF positions itself as the first collaborative fusion festival to incorporate music, with music inspired fashion brands as a unified live entertainment experience, under the brand mantra, “3 days, 2 loves, 1 place – Unboxed in Columbus, Ohio, Labor Day Weekend 2014.”
FMMF’s strategy is to assemble a premier line-up of emerging artists and national musical acts along with fashion models, designers, and retail brand names – mixing design, style, song and soul for three continuous days, celebrating the fusion of fashion and music. While 250 musical acts will perform on the FMMF campus in adjacent arenas and venues, as well as playing intimate shows in many Short North “hub spots,” 300 leading vendor brands in the fashion and music industries will populate a 118,000 square foot retail presence, producing a fashion and music marketplace. A dedicated runway inside the Convention Center will showcase the blend of the two art forms.
The initial musical and fashion line-up will be announced in the coming weeks with new musical artists, designers, and retailers named as they join the festival.
In addition to music and fashion, Nationwide Boulevard from High Street to Neil Avenue will be transformed into a streetscape of various cuisine and beverage selections; complete with gourmet food trucks, aerial zip lines, and one of North America’s largest Gondolas, towering 100 feet tall.
Created by music and fashion insiders, FMMF hopes to help brand Columbus as the Midwest’s music and retail fashion leader, much like Austin has been crowned an emerging music mecca and showcase for new talent development, due to its 27 year run with their popular SXSW Festival.
