DARKSIDE blew my mind last night. I went into it thinking it would be good, but they exceeded all of my expectations. One of the most captivating visual displays I have ever seen, and the songs have so much more energy live. If anyone is on the fence, do not hesitate to see them at Coachella.

    ^ add to this...

mmm Blue Ribbon's mac & cheese!

"In April when [Grateful Dead bassist] Phil Lesh plays, it’s going to go Phil Lesh at 9 o’clock, Trombone Shorty’s going to play a full show at one in the morning and Robert Randolph’s going to do gospel till dawn," Shapiro crows. "It’s like a festival lineup in a club. I don’t think that’s got precedent, to be honest. I don’t know when that’s been done. I don’t know when there have been three bands doing full sets in a club."

Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas is located in The LINQ, Caesar’s new entertainment complex. "It’s at dead center 50-yard line on The Strip," the New York-based music mogul explains. "It will have our Blue Ribbon menu, 32 lanes and 80,000 square feet in a free-standing building right under the biggest Ferris wheel in the world. It’s not in a casino. I think that’s an important element to creating vibe. It helps to have your own building and not be in the basement of a casino."

I didn't time it, but it was over an hour. I think they pretty much played all of Psychic in some form or another - all the tracks are very extended live and bleed into one another with various ambient interludes. I think they opened with "Freak, Go Home" or, at least, the opening song became "Freak, Go Home"

The guy who opened for them came on stage for the encore to play saxophone. I think that was the only "new" song I heard. Unfortunately, the bar at the back of the venue would get distracting during the quieter parts. I hope it's not an issue at Coachella (of course it will be). Visually, it was pretty cool... crazy circular mirror, smoke, etc.

I keep seeing very similar reviews of these guys' live shows. I can not get into their studio stuff for the life of me, i suppose i will have to at least walk by the tent when they are playing and see what the big fuss is about

Thanks for the info! I've been listening to their LP a lot lately so I can't wait to see their stage set up I still can't believe they sold out Terminal 5 but I'll be seeing them in Philly instead at Union Transfer which is much smaller The opener is Will Epstein and he's worked with Nicolas Jaar in the past. Last year @ MoMA PS1, he came out and helped out Jaar. You can take a look at it here...

Ash were surprisingly good last night. strong set list, and sounding great as a band. I didn't realize they were touring as a three piece now. they manage to pull it off though. if anyone is on the fence about seeing them this tour, I recommend going.

I was super impressed with Darkside last night. Kind of a bummer they only played an hour or so... but I had a blast nonetheless. I was kind of taken aback at how many people were packed into Emo's. Didn't think they were that "big."

    Also, purplecow, how was Disclosure?

Disclosure was freaking awesome. They had the crowd eating out of the palms of their hands. The weather was absolutely great and the Friday night atmosphere just made the whole show seem perfect. I was also with a large group of cool people so that helped. They played 9:40-11 with no encore, so we had just enough time to get over to Darkside before they actually started at 11:30 right when we were walking in. It was a cool contrast to Disclosure and I really enjoyed the set, but too many people were talking.

That's cool. I originally planned on Disclosure... but it sold out and tickets were like $100 bucks on stubhub. Oh well, I bet they'll be back for ACL or Fun Fun Fun.

EDIT* And yeah, the talking was rather annoying. Probably the worst crowd I've experienced in Austin thus far. Kind of surprised it took place at a DARKSIDE show.

The LA Mastodon date is at Club Nokia, not Nokia Theater. But damn that's a dope billing, will be getting tickets to that FOR SURE.

Also, has anyone on here been to The Church on York yet? I fell in love with it after attending the La Luz show there the other night.
