I looked into going to one of those shows to see Watpaint again, but it's too much $$ to spend on an opening set.

LOL. So freaking true. Blink 182 and iconic don't belong in the same sentence.

I mean, regardless of whether you like them or not, they're definitely iconic of a certain time. Blink was one of the biggest bands in the world for a period of time, I don't think THAT term is incorrect for them, although it definitely is for that album.

Well, no, I think Dude Ranch could certainly become described as such. It was a behemoth hit that took punk rock into the hands of even broader audiences than The Offspring or Green Day had done before, and set the stage for countless impersonators and basically started a whole new wave of pop punk. However one might feel about them critically is an entirely different story, but to deny the impact that band has had is silly (especially from somebody who is borderline fetishistic about bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, and Muse).

EDIT: Written at the same time as Bryan.

Basically this. I love Blink-182, I don't listen to them like I used to in middle school-college but if one of their songs comes on, i'm all about it.

Out of those 3 bands, the only thing that you could even remotely call punk rock are mayyyybe The Offspring's pre-Smash records.

Smash, Dookie, and Dude Ranch were all "gateway drugs" to punk for a ton of people (myself included), whether you want to call them punk or not is up to you. At the time they were all most certainly referred to as being punk bands.

Yeah, whether or not they were truly "punk" doesn't matter. But I don't think Dude Ranch was as much of a behemoth as Dookie or Enema of the State.

Creed was one of, if not THE, biggest band in america for about four years and spawned a batch of imitators that kept the constipated trend going well into the 00s. Are they iconic, too?

Creed is annoying but I don't think they're terrible. They're legends to many

I was thinking about it...but $100 seems a little steep. But i'll end up paying that much at a random bar anyway.

I finally saw Unknown Mortal Orchestra last night (in Chicago) and man-o-man can those guys play. What a show. They played for about 85 minutes and closed the set with a 10-minute cover of a Can song (not sure exactly what it was called). Really talented and professional musicians.

Woot! Jon Hopkins/Clark/Nathan Fake earlier in the night then DJ Harvey 9hr set starting at midnight!

DJ Harvey will land in New York City for a gig on November 16th.

The English-born DJ is renowned for both the length of his sets and the variety he manages to squeeze in, often encompassing everything from disco to psych rock and lots in between. A pivotal figure in UK dance music history, he's had a bit of renaissance in recent years, becoming a regular at vaunted clubs and nights like Berghain, Robert Johnson and A Club Called Rhonda, among others. He's also found success as a producer with his Locussolus project on International Feel.

The New York show, co-presented by Rong Music and Benny Soto, is one of just a few US gigs Harvey has played this fall. It'll take place at a secret location (to be revealed later), with no opening or closing DJs—Harvey will spin all night.

There aren't a whole lot of Harvey mixes online (his 2012 RA Podcast being one rare exception), but you can hear a brief session from him over at RBMA Radio.
