BAM is a great venue but general admission seating at BAM for "sold out shows" will be a nightmare clusterfuck! NMH fanatics will be lined up to get in for BAM hours beforehand. If you want a good spot, you're going to have to suck it up and wait! They should have just made it "reserved seating" like for other venues...

that is much better than the Echo's normal bait-and-switch move to the Echoplex. good on them for not screwing people over.

on a somewhat related note, if anyone was dieing to see Walk the Moon but couldn't get tickets to their Wiltern show 10/18, tickets are now available for the "upgraded" venue, Palladium.

Great show tonight. A pretty subdued set...lots of slower songs. Definitely the trippiest of the now 4 times I've seen them. I was hanging out with a friend all the way in the back, and I've gotta say the sound was rather impressive for a venue at a fair. It would have been amazing to have gotten You Lust, but I imagine the length of the song made it a no-go.

Also, with the Growlers being from Costa Mesa there were a *ton* of young kids there early to see them. And it was really cool to see them get all excited and lose their minds when a song would start, for a band that's still that small. Really fun night overall.
Izzy is still tripping on some of those visuals. She did love the rainbows and confetti.

Yes. LOTS of local kids. I saw way too many past students.

The fact that Walk the Moon has sold out the Wiltern before James Blake or Foals or a bunch of other acts makes me cringe.
This is far worse than the Echo/Echoplex bait and switch. The Wiltern is pretty good, the Palladium sucks. I would demand a refund.

Livenation has moved shows from the Wiltern to the Palladium many times. For the type of acts it happens with a lot of the time it's highly likely it's the type of crowds that don't even know the difference anyway though (Radio listeners that go to maybe 1 or 2 concerts a year).

Justin Bieber sells out the Staples center which James Blake, Foals, and Walk the Moon probably couldn't do combined. Good music has a tendency to go overlooked more often than not.

About the echo -> echoplex VS. wiltern -> palladium.. I can see why people would be upset about a show being switched from echo to echoplex cause %75 of the venue sightlines are obstructed by low hanging ceiling or the unfortunately placed soundbooth. But Wiltern to Palladium isn't that big of a deal, Wiltern is excellent and better than Palladium obviously, but at least at Palladium you can still show up whenever and get a decent spot with good views.

Do people actually listen to the music these buzz bands make before buying tickets? Like Lorde and countless other past bands, King Krule is blatantly unremarkable.

True on good music being overlooked, or at least less commercially successful than pop trash. Not a new revelation, but still annoys me sometimes. The thing about the Echoplex is i've been there 2 or 3 times and i've never had sight line problems, but I guess i've never been that far back. I'll take your word on it.

Coachella board, I need your opinion.

On October 1st, do I go to:

Nine Inch Nails/Explosions in the Sky - Chaifetz Arena - St. Louis
Sigur Rós - The Fabulous Fox Theatre - St. Louis

    Here are my thoughts:

    Nine Inch Nails:
-Like them but not a huge fan, haven't listened to every album
-New song/album not as good as older stuff (in my opinion)
-Seeing them at Outside Lands for first time
-Will have a crazy stage setup/light show different than summer shows
-LOVE Explosions, but how will the sound/show translate to an arena?
-Only a short opening set for Explosions
-Never been to the venue before--Chaifetz Arena has 3.9/5 stars on google

    Sigur Rós
-One of my top 10 favorite bands, especially live (top 5 live for sure)
    -But seen them thrice already
-Enjoy the new album a lot
-Less fancy stage setup and lighting than NIN
-Never been to the venue before--Fabulous Fox Theatre has 4.7/5 stars on google

So, thoughts? Do you think I should go to NIN or Sigur Rós

I think you answered your question on your own.

I mean, personally, I'd hit NIN first... But clearly Sigur Ros seems to be the correct choice for you.

I dont' think I answered it, hence why i'm asking. EITS is a big draw for me, as is the stage setup aspect of NIN. Sigur Rós are amazing but their stage setup is not mind blowing, like NIN's might be. There's also the aspect of NIN being a "rare" (lol) act that are just coming out of a (kinda short) hiatus.

The acts that I describe as "Top 5 live shows" are acts that I see every time, especially over a band I'm "not a huge fan" of.. And would likely travel to see multiple times on the same tour... Thus why I'd say you answered your own question.

NIN will tour plenty, but they are also astounding live. I'm much more a fan of their early music, and the last time I saw them they did a decent amount of songs I wasn't familiar with. I'd put that show in my top 10 sets I've ever seen. Trent and crew just put on a truly fantastic show, one that I'd say rivaled Sigur Ros for me musically and obliterated them visually. Plus the new band he has is full of excellent musicians.

Oh man, that FLips show last night was killer. the beginning was crazy with the red and blue lights. made it seem like the audience was pulsating. Kinda bummed i didn't run into any of you guys. i was surprised at how close the seats i got were, mostly because i didn't remember how little of an amphitheater it was.

Yes. There are seats (like it's a movie theatre) and then open space in the front for standing in front of the stage. Sound is mediocre.
