oh. I see.
Drove over to check it out, see the fireworks. Listened to a couple songs outside the fence, wasn't gonna pay $40 to watch, though.
Giraffage was really fucking good tonight.
11/21 - Pearl Jam - Viejas Arena
El Guincho should play this too
Grimes, Four Tet, The xx, John Talabot, Pional, Koreless, Chairlift, Sampha, Tasker, and more TBA
http://theyoungturks.co.uk/nye2013/We are proud to announce the line-up for the first Young Turks New Year's Eve party in Tulum, Mexico - 45 minutes from Playa del Carmen and 90 minutes from Cancun.
The concert will be on the beach from 8pm-10am and tickets are $150. They are available from 9AM Tulum time, July 1.
I didn't make it to the Ecstatic Summer show but Big Star's Third was fucking phenomenal. The base band was people who all knew each other and have played together in a pile of different bands, from the 90s/00s version of Big Star to the dB's, R.E.M. and on many, many solo records.
They started out with about a half an hour of random songs and then started in on Third. This portion opened with "Stroke It Noel" but they kind of made up their own running order. After this they played some Chris Bell songs (including Pete Yorn's great take on "I am the Cosmos") and more Big Star including the highlight of the night, Mike Mills leading "September Gurls". That was followed by older Alex Chilton with "The Letter" (Richard Lloyd on guitar again). They closed with "Thank You Friends" and we were all happy.
Jonathan Donahue's lovely version of "Holocaust" was another favorite. Brett Harris was the standout of the artists I didn't know; he had a fantastic voice and had a dead on Alex Chilton taking lead vocals for several songs such as "Femme Fatale" and "When My Baby's Beside Me" (I think? It was a long night with a lot of guests). Most hilarious would either be Kurt Vile looking entirely confused singing backup on the last few songs and Mike Mills rhythmically bouncing a basketball on I forget which song.
All in all they played 2 hours 20 minutes.

Did anyone else miss the majority of R. Kelly last night thinking that he would close the Staples show???
^ haha totally right on about Kurt Vile. He was crossing his arms for the whole time and looked like he didn't want to be there. Overall I'm happy the weather turned out ok for a great night of music!
Lapalux's first ever US tour!!!
sweeeeeeeeeeeet Lapalux SD date.
the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock
Thursday, September 12th
Fuck yes, definitely going to this!
Titus Andronicus sounds way more fun of a time than how boreding Godspeed can be at times....or how pretentious a music listener/showgoer can be .Like I enjoyed seeing and listening GS!BE but compare to guitar work of Patrick snpickles(sp) and the other guitar player at last November made me wish I saw their SD show the next day.
