Regarding the reCAPTCHA's, can't a computer bot be used to get passed it by definition? If you use a text reader for the known word, it doesn't matter what the bot uses for the unknown word. Isn't the whole point to prove you're human?
3/21/15 - Tweedy @ Theater at Ace Hotel // 3/27/15 - At The Gates (w/Converge, Pallbearer) @ Wiltern // 4/14/15 - Cloud Nothings @ Echo // 4/19/15 - Electric Wizard @ Roxy
// 4/22/15 - Faith No More - Wiltern // 5/15-17/15 - Psycho CA @ Observatory // 5/27/15 - Neutral Milk Hotel @ Warner Grand Theater //6/3/15 - Sufjan Stevens @ Dorothy Chandler
One of the words is unknown because it wasn't machine readable when whatever book it is was originally scanned. When you type that into the box, it's the first time it's been committed to digital text form. Congratulations on your contribution to the project!
The other word though, is already known. It wasn't machine readable originally either, but somebody else has already typed and verified it, and they're making sure that you can type and verify it correctly too. That's the one that's checked against your input to make sure you're human.
In other words, if you want to gamble on shaving off a few seconds, you could only bother putting in the first word correctly and then mashing the keyboard like an idiot for the second - there's a 50/50 chance that first word is the one you're being tested on, and the other is the "fresh" one. But if you strike out, and the second one is the keyword, then you're back to square one without a paddle and somebody else is getting your tickets.
