wooo just got a free ticket for Nick Cave tonight.
Holy shit, I'm awesome. Or so says Nick Cave. Yeah, that was an incredible show.
Holy.Fuck. So glad I got to Nick Cave down low at least once. Special thanks to the girls in front of me cause I'm pretty sure he wasn't spending so much time in our area because of me. From Her To Eternity, Stagger Lee, Mercy Seat, Tupelo.. so many highlights. Maybe Tupelo with its plodding dirge was the best. Great crowd and good sound at the Shrine.
Feels and Drewski great seeing you guys. I saw lots of friends I hadn't seen in a while. Bring on tomorrow at the Ace!

So X were wonderful last night. The original band members haven't missed a beat and sounded just like their records - in other words, ah-mazing! This was the 2nd of four gigs at The Roxy covering their first four albums (which are the only ones that really matter). Heard Wild Gift in its entirety and then two encores of tracks from their other three albums on tour. Actually creamed a little in my jeans during Adult Books. I highly recommend seeing them perform Under the Big Black Sun tonight or More Fun in the New World on Sunday if you can swing it. I almost quit my job to see these shows because of a weekend work conflict.
They sold out The Roxy four nights in a row - some tickets were recently released but think those are gone now, too. This one album per night (plus an encore of hits and rarities) is such a FANtastic idea and is what propelled me to finally see one of my favorite bands (can't believe last night was my first time - no longer an X live virgin, he he). Heard their single night shows are going to be acoustic. Not a fan of acoustic sets, especially from a band as sonic as X. I would drive to Hartford if I were you IF they are in fact playing Los Angeles in its entirety. You'll get a baker's dozen more songs not from that album at the end. God, I wish I could go tonight and tomorrow (would give my left testicle to get out of work). They really do sound and look great for a band whose members are 60 ish.
Here's the near-perfect setlist from last night:
1.The Once Over Twice
2.We're Desperate
3.Adult Books
4.Universal Corner
5.I'm Coming Over
6.It's Who You Know
7.In This House That I Call Home
8.Some Other Time
9.White Girl
10.Beyond and Back
11.Back 2 the Base
12.When Our Love Passed Out on the Couch
13.Year 1
Encore:
14.Drunk in My Past
15.Breathless (Otis Blackwell cover)
16.The Hungry Wolf
17.How I (Learned My Lesson)
18.Real Child of Hell
19.Nausea
20.Johnny Hit and Run Paulene
21.Motel Room in My Bed
22.Soul Kitchen (The Doors cover)
Encore 2:
23.I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts
24.Poor Girl
25.Because I Do
26.Devil Doll
9/22 The Mekons @ Pappy & Harriet's
Different set list tonight for Nick at the Ace. We got People Ain't No Good. Damn is that ever a good song! But No Red Right Hand. I preferred last night's set list overall but gotta hands down the sound win over to the Ace. Even Warpaint sounded better tonight, tho I still don't get em (like em fine as musicians, but none of them can sing).
Oh, and Nick Cave scratched my glasses with the sequins on his shirt last night. Really thought it was just sweat and would come off. But instead I got 3 hairlines scratches on my right lens. Going to see the optometrist on Friday.
Great couple of nights.

I was thinking he wasn't doing on this tour , but "People ain't no good" which is one of nick caves best songs ever. Fuck, I love that song and when he performed that song last year in San Diego. I remember just tensing up with emotion with it fuck I wish this last time I saw him was the same.
I haven't seen this posted
Man... seeing New Order in the best of circumstances is never a good idea... but on the same weekend as Nick Cave? It's just going to make how horrible a front man Bernard Sumner is that much more painful.
Agreed, but I still had a good time. Your Silent Face was a highlight for me. La Roux was surprisingly enjoyable.
