The xx were just ok tonight. I don't love the new album, so that didn't help.

I thought the crowd where I was standing was terrible. The show was actually a little better than the Fonda, maybe cause the new stuff was more familiar and they had more experience playing it. 2:54 were awesome as usual, if you're going tonight make sure you get there in time to see them. Also, John Talabot was a nice surprise find.
Agreed. John Talabot was great.
Set times for David Byrne and St. Vincent tonight!
Doors 6
David Byrne and St. Vincent 7:30
No Opener
See you there

For you guys that went to the David Byne/St V shows...did they start on time or might we get a little wiggle room to get there?
Agreed! They went on 15 minutes late. This was definitely one of my favorite shows of the year. Great vibes and I loved the St. Vincent and Talking Heads songs thrown in for good measure!
Hey peoples if you're looking for a good show, go see Sun Airway. They were fucking great at Soda Bar last night, awesome vibes. They also have very dramatic lighting that makes for a cool show as well. Pure Bathing Culture, from Portland, opened for them with a groovy set (kinda Chromatics-esque). Great night!
Mouse on Mars at the El Rey tonight postponed until 2/16.
5/22 - The Cure - Hollywood Bowl
5/31 - Brian Jonestown Massacre - Teragram (?)
6/07 - Chelsea Wolfe - Teragram (?)
6/14 - Silver Apples - Troubadour

Agreed with this completely. The show was incredible, and it's great that Byrne still has the grooves and the voice at his age.
"This Must Be The Place" has to have been one of my favorite concert moments ever. Also, I don't really like St. Vincent's own stuff on record - I always seem to enjoy her collaborations - but I really liked it live.

And here I thought it crazy unlikely I would get the chance to see this again!
Definitely echo the sentiment.. this is not to be missed!
(of course, I still may not get the chance since my girlfriend will be having our kid a few weeks before... but figure I might as well get tickets on the remote chance we can somehow work it out!)
It's on. Going to try for tickets for the Saturday show

Ladies and Gentlemen they are back! The most eagerly anticipated concerts of 2012 are announced today as the greatest rock 'n' roll band, The Rolling Stones, confirm their long awaited return to the stage with four spectacular arena shows in London and New York. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood at last revealed their return to live work exclusively via this video.
As the crowning glory of their on-going 50th anniversary celebrations, the rock icons will play to thousands of fans at London's O2 Arena on November 25 and 29, and then across the pond to perform at the Prudential Center, Newark, near New York, on December 13 and 15.
Please the $800 tickets will sell out first
I am fine with being in the 200 level

I think you are underestimating the amount of disposable income that many baby boomers have.
Yess keep talking about Rolling Stones while I figure out to afford Clint Mansell tickets
Since most of you guys seem to be digging these guys, I've updated their CMJ shows
10/16 @ Cameo Gallery
10/18 @ Knitting Factory
10/19 @ Villain
ps They'll probably play BV day party + Fader as well
Interview with Alex (guitarist/singer)
Your album was a (fairly) long time coming. Just waiting to get it right?
Yes. It took us three 7 inches and a hundred shows to really get a grasp of what a METZ LP would sound like. The actual recording didn't take long at all.
Your album does a great job of translating METZ's live sound to the recorded medium. What's the secret?
Crank it up until it sounds like its going to break. Red line everything including the drums.
You worked with some producers more normally thought of in electronic circles, what made you choose them?
We feel really fortunate to have worked with Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck) and Alex Bonenfant (Crystal Castles). We wanted to avoid a traditional "rock 'n' roll" recording and make something different.
What's the secret to getting that SHRIIIINNNG noise beyond flicking the guitar strings above the headnut?
You have to really mean it!
METZ shows are intense -- is it as physically draining as it appears? It's also really loud. Do you guys wear earplugs?
Yes and Yes. On tour, we wait around all day to play so when the time finally comes we put everything into it. I usually feel like I've been hit by a bus after we play. Earplugs are recommended.
You're coming back to NYC for CMJ -- any Big Apple highlights/anecdotes from your previous shows?
Playing Death By Audio is always a highlight. Our last show there was absolutely crazy. It was so hot I'm surprised nobody in the crowd passed out.
Speaking of DbA (which you've played twice), have you indulged in any of their custom pedals?
Yes. Chris uses one of their pedals. I think its an Interstellar Overdriver or something gnarly like that.
Who's the sleepy student on your album cover?
I'm not sure. My dad took that photo when he was in high school. I think it sums up the overall vibe of the record.
After a few years in Montreal's shadow, Toronto's music scene is getting more attention. What bands should we know about?
Young Mother, Ell V Gore, Dusted, The Soupcans, Teenanger, Odonis Odonis, Rituals, S.H.I.T. and much much more.
Who's the best power trio of all time?
Larry, Curly, and Moe
Canadian question: What's your favorite Sloan album?
Thats a tough one. I think its a tie between Smeared and Twice Removed.
Nas and Lauryn Hill
The Wiltern
Nov 30
Are the Rolling Stones really only doing those 4 dates? Somebody please let me in on the info
