Yeah, I've never bought a transfer and never will. That's bull.
How is Section R2 at the Bowl? deciding which tix to grab for Neil Young
11/21 - Pearl Jam - Viejas Arena
Hell of a setlist tonight at Wilco. Joanna was wonderful as well, especially Cosmia.
I'm horrible with her song titles but I definitely heard Bridges & Balloons, Inflammatory Writ, and Cosmia.
Bridges And Balloons
Have One On Me
Inflammatory Writ
Colleen
In California
Cosmia
Joanna and Wilco were both great tonight, and, as usual for a KCRW sponsored show, were heavily marred, for me at least, by the very talkative people all around.
I'd try to avoid it...
...Because of this. I have been to about 2-3 shows in this area and all have been plagued by talking (not all KCRW shows). It is not the loudest and you end up spending the whole show wondering why the people around you even showed up. I personally don't bother with Bowl shows in the sections behind the Super Seats.

For your health
Super seats is the line I impose as well unless the tickets are a really good deal.
I laughed when I found out. Since I live a mile from where it was. Went from Alt J to Sarcastic, stayed til 4:30 or so.
If you wanna be surrounded by people talking, be my guest.
So how many times does it have to be explained that on Sundays its 10pm. Theyve been letting some shows go to 10:15, but thats it. Every other night is 11pm.

Are Orange County residents always just drunken messes going out to concerts? The crowd for Alt-J at the Observatory/Galaxy tonight was ridiculous. It seemed like everyone was just wasted and being obnoxious. Huge parties of people just screaming conversations at each other during the whole set, and being absolute mean assholes about it when you ask them to quiet down. Then drunk girls to our right screaming out the lyrics to the song over the lead singer. What a frustrating show. Despite that, they had the best reception I've seen out of the four shows I've been to, now. The crowd was going absolutely apeshit for them and it was easy to forget they were the opening band.
Fingerprints set was a much more respective (respecting?) crowd. It was rad being up that close and able to see everything they did on every instrument. Got to meet them after the show and talked for a while about the tour and what bullshit it was to be compared to Radiohead. They were like "How? How is it even possible for someone to be the next Radiohead when they're still here?" I talked up reddit with the drummer Thom, who is a fellow redditor. We laughed about how he posted the link to his band's album like four months ago and no one at all responded to it, but suddenly within the past couple weeks he's gotten like 700 private messages. I told him he's gotta be careful what he writes, now. But yeah, got them to sign my LP and a poster and then took a group shot with them.
Overall my three Alt-J shows in 24 hours were pretty fantastic, and Carmageddon helped a lot. Gus said they're gonna be back at the Troubadour in December. Can't wait!
Everything about the Bowl show tonight was so good. Probably the warmest it's ever been while I was there, glad I dressed light. The run of songs from Trying > Almost > Misunderstood (32 nothings, haha) > Jesus > Handshake was absolutely incredible. Sunken Treasure was amazing. Seeing Ashes of American Flags for the first time, and for the first song of the encore no less, left me speechless. Joanna and her band were predictably wonderful as well.

There were moments when the wind was following their ''noise'', it was great. Also, the poster was badass. Only 250 made...

Alt-J were great at The Bootleg, but the drunk idiots singing every song really irked me. Wilco and Joanna Newsom were both stellar. I wish Joanna played longer, she was amazing, Looking forward to Garbage, Peter Gabriel and New Order this week!
In unrelated news: I went to Neil Patrick Harris's Haunted House Delusion and it was awesome! If you like that sort of stuff I highly recommend it.

Jack White was the shit last night! He didn't say anything to the crowd till the last song. He said, "Thank You" and left the stage lol. He just blazed through every song and played for little bit longer than Saturday. I think the show was 80 minutes long instead of 55 minutes this time around...probably not the best Jack White show but he backed his shit up with a killer setlist

Girl loved Joanna, she only got a 35-40 minute opening set, so that was kind of lame, seeing some jackass from KCRW with some terrible hair plugs read his monologue from his phone on stage after didn't help her short set. We stayed for two songs of Wilco before the generic rock destroyed all happiness created by JoNo. Seriously you guys...Wilco?
Lead singer looked like hes going for a Neil Young look thats for sure
Yeah and people talk way too much at the bowl, guys behind us kept mumbling about smelling pot during Joanna, then when wilco came on he couldntshutup about the bowl he had. Great dude you got weed in CA, you're 47 and you're at a rock show!
Hope the people I gave my seats to enjoyed the better view in section G, thanks Faxman, you got the mugwog some booty
Gary Calamar has stopped at way too many greasy spoons for that open road show.
Whiskey Sour
2 oz blended whiskey
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp powdered sugar
1 cherry
1/2 slice lemon
Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.
People in the pool circle were very quiet and respectful during the Wilco show last night. The sound quality was phenomenal and the band put on a fantastic show. LIght years better than the Wiltern show I saw earlier this year. "Art of Almost" is a total monster live and "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" was amazing. One of my personal fave Wilco songs is "Hummingbird" so I was very glad to hear that.
Last night weas my first time seeing Joanna and she was so wonderful! I can't wait to see her in a theater the next time she comes around. Also, we were in section K2 and pretty much everyone around us was very into the show. There was light chattering, but no disrespectful assholes. And I also think i might have liked this Wilco set a bit better than the Wiltern show, though it's hard to beat having been so close to them in such a small room.

I don't know where you live but this sounds kinda special...
12-10 New York, NY - The Riverside ChurchAndrew Bird will play three special shows as part of his "Gezelligheid" series of concerts, built to adapt his music to "the atmosphere of the space and the season." "Gezelligheid" is a Dutch term that loosely translates to "cozy." Says Bird, "What I hope to do with these shows is adapt my music completely to the atmosphere of the space and the season. I want the audience to be both lifted and comforted as we head into another cold and dark winter. I feel the space should be sacred so the audience can experience my music in a different atmosphere."
12-19 Chicago, IL - Fourth Presbyterian Church
12-20 Chicago, IL - Fourth Presbyterian Church
Pre-sale happening now: http://andrewbird.tickets.musictoday.../calendar.aspx
Only time I've been Riverside Church was for Bjork in 2001 and that show was phenomenal...
It'll be special, Spooks. Definitely go!
