The show at Los Globos tonight was really solid. The first opener, Tropic of Cancer, was really good. Dreamy, bass-heavy pop with Belinda-esque vocals. Vatican Shadow was the absolute shit. A complete aural assault, and an all too short set that no one wanted to end. Demdike Stare took quite a while to get going, but once they found their rhythm they killed it. Fantastic triple bill overall.
    8/05 - Wilco - Greek (?)
    8/06 - Tame Impala - Hollywood Forever
    8/13 - Alabama Shakes - Greek (?)
    8/14-16 - Berserktown - Observatory
8/19 - The Jesus and Mary Chain - Fonda (?)

Agreed on all accounts TallGuy. Vatican was a highlight for me as well, wayyy too short though. They could have given Vatican at least another 20 minutes considering Demdike ended ~1:40. Also, I must find out who the DJ was between Tropic of Cancer and Vatican Shadow, he spun some seriously heavy techno that was quite the contrast after the wavy vibe ToC put out.

    Good times.

Edit: Figured out DJ, Mikey Lovechilde. Also forgot to mention that Sean and Miles are master's at creating a vortex of noise and dub, they absolutely killed it.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes put on quit a show tonight at the SB bowl, playing a 90 minute set showcasing many of their new songs from the album coming out at the end of the month along with a good amount of songs from Up From Below. They put on quite a good show musically having expanded to a 12 person live band all helmed by who I believe to be one of the greatest front men in music today, Alex Ebert, who builds such a connection with the band its hard to understand considering you'd probably walk the other way if you saw him come up to you on the street. He held hands with people, danced, laughed & pointed, and at one point just completely gave my brother his microphone to sing the intro "mmm bop mmm bop mmm bompabababa" of Janglia. And I think Alex was the one more excited in that moment then my brother was, if you can imagine. The lack of a barrier between the crowd and stage was a tremendous plus to this show and imagine it was per the bands request.

Their new material is much more orchestral and psychedelically roaming then their previous folk driven efforts and I was seriously enjoying it all immensely, though I had hoped the album would have leaked before the show. This preview of say 8-10 new songs with this new feel carried even more weight when Alex mentioned it would be a double album. I'm seriously excited for this album and expect a large wealth of music, especially with them having been in support of Up From Below for WAY too long, and that comes from someone that really likes that record and them.

Already looking forward to seeing them again once I'm familiar with their new stuff!

Yeah, the tunes between sets were really fantastic.

I am curious if this was enforced because you are punishing the fan rather than the scalper. That would be tough love. Getting refunds isn't easy from Stubhub, you can't just call and say 'I was refused entry'. Stubhub requires you to get that verified from the box office.

I don't know why they don't just go will call for a venue that size.

That email was just a total scare tactic. It felt that way when I even read the thing. Giving all that information out barely 24 hours beforehand made it look to hasty. If they did go through with it, the line wouldve taken twice as long entry wise. I dont think they wanted that on their hands, especially with a large amount of people attending having never been there. Oh, and the ''first 75 feet are standing only'' was just a total moot point 10 mins into the show. But I'll say this, there was plenty of room due to most people just going up front.

I'm thrilled to hear this. I'm seeing Demdike this Saturday and can't wait. No Vatican Shadow up here unfortunately, but we don't get spoiled like you folks in LA...

The Weeknd was great tonight. I haven't really been to anything close to an R&B show before, and maybe that's how it always is, but I was surprised to hear so many girls singing along to all the lyrics, haha. I had kind of pictured him putting on somewhat of an effective yet stoic show, and was glad to see him get into it so much.

And also, I think all three of his mixtapes are excellent, but I'll be damned if House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls isn't the absolute best tune he's penned up to this point. Especially after seeing it live. Shit's ridiculously good.
