Default It's Raining the Master of Horror

    R.I.P. Wes Craven.

I remember watching A Nightmare on Elm Street when I was in 4th grade (I'm dumb). This scene really stuck with me:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 9/14 - The Mohawk
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 9/15 - The Mohawk
    Chelsea Wolfe - 9/19 - The Mohawk
    Titus Andronicus - 9/20 - Red 7
Thee Oh Sees - 9/23 - Hotel Vegas
    Leon Bridges - 10/2 - The Parish

I remember trying to convince my parents to let me watch the original Scream when it first came out. Later on I had a VHS of it, started watching it, when my mom walked in on the opening murder scene, and took it from me.

He really had quite a resume: Nightmare on Elm Street, People Under The Stairs, The Last House On The Left. I want to revisit some of these now.

Funny enough, that's what inspired the original film apparently. Wes had a very specific nightmare...

Oh man, people hate on Scream... but that was one of the scariest movies I watched as a teen. Sure, jump scares are cheap... but I found it particular frightening because the "monsters" weren't supernatural or otherworldly at all.

The idea came from an article that he read about some people who had died in their sleep. The DVD of Nightmare has a commentary track where he talks about it, it's interesting.

One of the most memorable moviegoing experiences I've had was seeing Scream at one of those second-run $1 theaters. The place was full due to the movie's good word of mouth, and people were screaming at the scary parts. It was a lot of fun.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

I love Scream, I watched it over and over when I was a teenager. Yeah it's not the most disturbing horror flick out there, but I loved the camp elements and making fun of the genre itself. It's a fun horror flick. It's on Netflix too, might have to give it a watch later.

For that contribution, and many other frights throughout my childhood/teen years, R.I.P. Mr. Craven.

I love this quote from Rob Zombie:

"Scream is not a horror movie. It's just a Party of Five episode where somebody gets fucking stabbed."
