When I try to get to the forum at work, I get the 24-36 hour maintenance page. I use IE7 (only choice) and have deleted all cache, temp files, cookies, etc... What gives? I can get on fine from home and my iPad.

Everyone behind our firewall gets the Maint page. How strange. Is there such thing as Enterprise cache?

More or less, yes. It's possible that your DNS server's cache is pointing to an older IP address (not sure if coachella.com is on a new address or not). You'll probably just have to wait it out. You can flush your computer's DNS (Run, cmd.exe, "ipconfig /flushdns"), but it'll probably just pull everything from the server.

In the middle of the day, seemingly for no particular reason, my computer suddenly stopped recognizing both my iPod and iPhone. I've got a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7. My iPod was already plugged in, and when I attempted to plug my iPhone in as well I realized something was amiss. Though iTunes was still showing the songs in my iPod, when I clicked on any of them I got that exclamation point deal in the left column. When I removed the iPod, all my data was still on the device. The same is true of my iPhone. iTunes is otherwise functioning properly and is the current version.

My iPhone and iPod are also not recognized by my computer.

After restarting my computer and receiving an error message when I tried to plug my iPhone in, I followed the advice found here. I performed a Windows update (allowing everything but Internet Explorer to load) and did everything else outlined on the support page and am still not having any luck.

I should also add that when I restarted the computer for the first time, I got an error message saying that my webcam was not functioning properly. (The webcam is part of the laptop, if that's important.) This issue has also not been resolved.

My laptop is less than a year old and is running the current version of Norton AntiVirus (which I used shortly after realizing the problem and found no viruses.) I've no idea if that information is relevant. I did encounter an issue online yesterday afternoon, but Norton supposedly took care of it. I don't remember the specifics of this issue and I have no idea if it's got anything to do with this problem.

    Anyone have any advice?

I am assuming that the iPod, iPhone and webcam all use USB to connect.

Do other USB devices work? Have you tried other USB ports? The USB port may be dying.

You might try going into the Device Manager and remove/uninstall the USB hub/controllers then let Windows detect the 'new' hardware.

They do go through USB - There are just two ports on my laptop and I've tried to use both for these devices. Until you mentioned it, I hadn't tried plugging anything else into the USB ports. I've just done that and ran into the same problem - Trying your suggestion now. Thanks!

debating internally about recommending a 'VGA to Display Port' adapter as I haven't personally used one and they seem to work fifty percent of the time judging by the reviews out there. But, hell, it's cheaper than a new monitor. They might as well give it a go. Sorted.

So I have this laptop left over from grad school that was purchased through a university I was collaborating with (so it has weird admin settings). I was messing around with some of the settings a couple weeks ago and after restarting to put the changes into effect, my password no longer worked. Since I have no idea what the admin password is, I'm trying to find a way to recover or reset the user passwords for the computer. I've already tried a few methods I looked up, including a free password recovery software that runs as a bootable disc and locates all passwords on the hard drive partitions. The problem is, I get a boot error every time I try to run it. I think it has something to do with md5 files, but I don't know shit about those.

Do any of you guys know what to do here?

How much do you want to spend? Usb 2, usb 3, or firewire? Portable or desktop?

I have been having an issue with my late 2009 15" Macbook Pro. I've had hard drive issues with it in the past, however, this all subsided when I replaced the ribbon that connects the mother board to the hard drive. All problems, subsequently stopped. Recently, however, whenever I am playing a Youtube video, or songs in iTunes, my browser and other applications lag horribly, but the music still plays. I will have the beach ball of death persist until the song is over with.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

I'm thinking around $150, firewire, and it doesn't matter if it's portable or desktop.
The only drive I've been able to find with a firewire and great reviews is the Western Digital My Passport Studio, but it's pretty pricey at $179.

I got a new MacBook Pro today and I want to transfer all of my music from my old MacBook to the new one and still retain all of the playlists and play counts. If I transfer my music to an external hard drive and then transfer it to the new computer, will it retain those play counts? Advice on the best/easiest way to do this? Play counts are important to me

You have to transfer your iTunes library file (.itl) along with all your song files. Then When you open iTunes on your new computer hold down shift (or control or command, it's one of the three, but I can't remember which). It will give you an option to create a new library or open an existing one. Open the one you copied to your new hard drive and be sure the file path to all your songs is the exact same as it was on your old computer.

got a 3 PC copy of Webroot AV 2011 for $9 at Staples in their clearance department and seems to be working pretty well (if you cancel your Time Warner internet service they immediately delete your email accounts and expire your CA anti-virus). Also drank too much last night.

    I need some help.

Picked up a root-kit looking for a vegan recipe. Fun. This one was/is a serious bitch. Pretty sure it's now gone, my scans are clean, but I have remaining issues. It seems to have done a number on my registry and who knows what else. I am "missing" a shit tone of files for work, which I desperately need. And no I didn't back up my filers, and yes I know I should have and that's my own fault for not doing so. So, if you follow the pictures you'll see a "JOBS" folder that is empty. Then you'll see a 'Public Documents" folder that is empty and one that is not. The "JOBS" folder is a short cut on my desktop which takes me to the "Public Documents", which is where all my files are. There are several other files "missing", but these are my concern at the moment. So, you can see in the first picture that they're missing, but when I look at previous views of the folder the files are there. You can also see in the last picture, where the folder is empty, that there is over 5gigs and almost 7k files in there.

Please help me get my files back. I need them for tomorrow. Worse case scenario is I use the files form earlier last week, but that still leaves my computer a fucking mess, and also leaves me to draw another 5-6 drawings....again. I spent most of the day yesterday getting rid of this and making the progress I've made. I plan on spending time on it today also, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ok, so they seem to have been hidden. But I would still like some more info on this if anyone has any. Thanks.

Seemingly. But there are still some issues. Some programs aren't working properly. I also have to try to relocate where everything was so I can un-hide it. So i guess I'm curious if there's something out there that can revert what this little bitch did to me.

I sometimes get these emails saying "Your Amazon.com order has been cancelled" with an order # and everything for something I didn't try to order. I never click on what I get, I always go to Amazon to check my account. Is this just some kind of a phishing scheme?

You got hit with a popular rootkit going around. Follow these instructions and you'll be alright, I just hope you didn't delete all your Temp files because the unhide.exe utility needs them to restore your Start Menu shortcuts.

I'm curious how you got the rootkit. Did you inadvertently click on something? Was it through malicious code on a website?
