just trying to finish in the TOP half this year.
5. Tobias Jesso Jr.
So happy I finally got to see D'Angelo and he did not disappoint. I really hope he plays Coachella and gets a 2+...
Holy shit, Kanye. What a show. Way better than his mediocre headlining set at Coachella a few years ago. The only hiccup was probably bringing out Travis Scott for a couple songs. I hate that dude....
the fyf homepage also has a flying lotus dj set listed for tomorrow.
fuck yeah, indeed.
Wait, they're playing the pier? I didn't see that one. I was referring to the Club Nokia show.
edit: ah now I see he played the pier in July
The vinyl package looks awesome. I'm so bummed his LA tour stop is at the worst venue in the city. I'll just have to wait until he goes back to his Piano Bar residency, although I don't know if he...
whoa. I'm excited. Kinda bummed about Frank, but seeing him headline a festival isn't exactly the ideal setting to see him in anyway.
^I've been enjoying the single a lot, but I thought the album itself was very hit and miss. There's some intriguing stuff but it didn't always work for me.
Dune's falafel sandwich wrap is so damn tasty.
I enjoyed myself. Sets were the same length as they always are at Low End so that didn't bug me. However, the outdoor stage was too quiet. Also I never have problems with security at shows but boy...
I can't stop listening to Compton. I still can't believe I'm actually listening to a new Dre album in 2015 and it's actually really, really good. The production is masterful, as expected. Great...
early stream. officially released tomorrow. currently looking for a good link.
09-18 Huntington, NY - The Paramount *
09-19 Wallingford, CT - The Dome at Oakdale *
09-20 Boston, MA - House of Blues *
09-22 Rochester, NY - Water Street Music Hall *
Every year Oddball Comedy fest has great lineups but they always do it in Irvine Amphitheater, which has to be one of the worst venues for comedy in Southern California.
I just stumbled across an...
A few EPs I'm really digging at the moment:
Dam-Funk - STFU: some of his best work here. Is there anyone else even making actual funk music in 2015?
ILLFIGHTYOU - CASHINTHEBATHROOM: Kream Team...
Listening to it now. It's great.
mostly sad, but yeah
hmm, I couldn't disagree more but I wonder, did you like 56 Nights and/or Beast Mode more than DS2?
Both are mixtapes or free albums or whatever, but to me felt more like proper album releases....
I don't use spotify so I'm not totally sure. I heard that only about half of Dirty Sprite 2 was on it. I'm working on finding a decent link for the group right now. As for Young Thug, he put out The...
hell yeah. I posted about it in here a few days ago. It seems to get better with every listen. Gritty, nuanced street-rap that's also catchy as shit. One day the rest of rap will catch up to what...
Future's Dirty Sprite 2 is probably his best work since Pluto and is the first rap record of 2015 that might actually be better than To Pimp A Butterfly. Although I really shouldn't even compare the...
Future - Dirty Sprite 2
Nobody was preventing Cuban and the Mavs from meeting DJ except DJ. He never asked anyone to leave. They just hung out playing video games and shooting the shit until the moratorium ended. DJ...
^nice. gonna check that out.
RP Boo's Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints is probably my favorite footwork record since Double Cup. It's perhaps a little more abstract, but still totally groovy and fun.
Yeah, the record is amazing but seeing them live is often revelatory. That's what initially made me such a fan. I've taken friends who have no interest in jazz to see them and they always come away...
Also, The Internet's new album is their best yet and totally worth listening to if you like the rhythms and the blueses.
Concision is overrated. Indulgence is a virtue.
The Internet - Ego Death
Really loving Keita Sano's Holding New Cards. It touches on a lot of different styles and might seem a little all over the place, but I think the variety works.
Only listened to the new Leftfield...
The Red Sox are so bad. I'm not even angry at this point, just impressed.
I gotta say that on paper this is easily the least interesting lineup of their three years doing it, for me. After how amazing last year was I figured I'd be in no matter what this year, but I'm not...
It may not just be his character's behavior...
damn. got in the waiting room ten minutes early and still missed out on the lowest early bird price. ended up being $51.50 after fees, which for all these acts is still a great deal.
Food & Liquor is still pretty amazing.
Not sure whether or not I'm in favor of the move to the Shrine, but should be fun regardless. Last year was incredible. Anyone know how much tickets are supposed to be?
Hudson Mohawke - Lantern
when the music skips and someone yells, "REMIX!"
I don't think it is. At least not for me. I do listen to a lot of jazz, although mostly older stuff, but I will say that in terms of contemporary jazz music this is one of the very few records (maybe...
NPR footage of the Epic release concert:...
Looks like Thundercat is playing this year:
kinda bummed it's only one day
edit: Daedelus will be there as well.
Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment - Surf
(this is Chance The Rapper and his band's new project and it's free on iTunes now)
anyone think we might see an EDM headliner (that isn't Daft Punk) within the next few years? I'm not at all suggesting this would be a good thing, but just judging on the size of the crowds at some...
^^All I know is that Thugger/Popcaan single is beautiful. Can't wait to hear the rest.
^^^all improvised btw
