How is that different than any other Adele album?
Haven't listened yet. And yeah, like Pat said Beacons wasn't their finest hour, but it had some decent tunes on it. And hell, if a new album means a new Tortoise tour then I'll take it.
First 2016 album leak!
Tortoise - The Catastrophist
Are we keeping this thread or making a new one? Because the first album of 2016 is here! All hail Tortoise.
Ah! THAT band. I heard a song of theirs that was fantastic on KCRW a few months ago, took note of the band name and have checked back periodically to see if the album leaked, but never found...
It's not bad, but I wasn't terribly impressed by it. And maybe it's just the rip up on ? but the mastering of the album is dreadful. There are some good songs in there that will fill out a setlist...
My work here is done.
Leon Bridges was absolutely magnificent tonight.
A Boy Named Goo is great. The songs where the bass player sings were always gross, but tunes like "Naked" are so good.
Cheatahs - Mythologies
Teens of Style by Car Seat Headrest is wonderful. Their sound has been compared to Guided by Voices (whose music I'm not familiar with enough to say for sure whether that's accurate or not), front...
The Chills - Silver Bullets
Well, fuck. That Girl Band album is one of the better albums of the year. I don't really agree with the Metz comparison though...maybe in a very surface level way, but Metz is a pretty...
I'll go ahead and jump in and defend Mitch here - what I'm guessing he meant by that is that all of the artists mentioned have spectacular voices that are wasted on subpar songwriting and lack of...
No need for the logo.
Yeah, definitely the best of the year as far as kraut-ish stuff goes. ^
Yep. Blur's Coachella set was great, but this was on a whole other level. Absolutely fucking spectacular.
imo Moses is one of the all-time great drummers. He's an absolute machine. Irreplaceable, without question, as far as that band goes.
Very true. Sound issues aside, the new songs just felt very un-fleshed out. "Take Care" is such a rich, haunting song...and it had very little punch tonight. Only 2 pre-Halcyon Digest songs isn't...
Don't be pissed. Tonight was among the worst sounding shows I've seen. All you could hear was guitar and drums, fuck the Regent so so hard.
Atlas Sound was fine - no songs you'd recognize,...
That's the one I left off my nerdy prediction that wouldn't surprise me at all. It's a fan favorite, Stereogum voted it their best song (not that that means anything), and it's just a really, really...
It does seem like the most Josh-centric song aside from NEH. I'll be one goddamn happy camper if I ever see it live. When Bradford popped up in the smoking area at the Wiltern during the opening...
I've never seen them do "Octet"!!! That and "Twilight at Carbon Lake" are the songs that would make me lose my shit. They did play the former at their most recent show in '14 according to...
Tour starts tomorrow! Definitely staying away from tomorrow night's setlist so that the show on Friday is a surprise.
1. All the Same
2. Living My Life
3. Don't Cry...
A strange band, that one. They released an extremely strong single followed by an absolutely dreadful album.
Chantal Akerman is dead. :(
Of no use here, but one can dream - Jim O'Rourke performing Simple Songs and Bad Timing in full:
10.24.2015 - Tokyo, Japan - Sogetsu Hall
10.25.2015 - Tokyo, Japan - Sogetsu Hall
Hahaha, not that I know of. Tomato, tomahto, Mitch! ;)
I've been re-visiting the much maligned debut, Turn It Up ******, a bit lately. It's...really not bad. Certainly their slightest effort, and a typical case of a band trying to figure out their...
Man, that Sexwitch album is SPECTACULAR. I've always enjoyed Bat for Lashes well enough, but found her music in that incarnation to be a bit too down the middle. But this shit is fucking out there,...
FUCKING FUCK YES
12.03.15 - Minneapolis, MN - Walker Art Center
12.05.15 - Los Angeles, CA - The Getty Museum
12.06.15 - San Francisco, CA - The Independent
I think a band member...
I was up on the balcony and had no issues whatsoever, but that's what people were saying that were on the floor. "December Hunting for Vegetarian Fuckface" is the best song I've seen live this year,...
It has nothing to do with tastes. This board is a ghost town compared to what it was 5 years ago.
Stars of the Lid...
I bit the bullet and put on the new Deerhunter record this afternoon. It's obviously a low quality rip that's out there, but I've heard worse 128kb files before. I couldn't wait any longer, haha.
TO LISTEN OR TO WAIT FOR A BETTER RIP
Yeah, I like the album overall. Not nearly as good as the first, but it's good. But holy shit the song "Sober" is beyond awful.
Aldon Smith to the Raiders bitchezzzzz
Bill Burr is opening for Queens of the Stone Age tonight? That's so awesome.
A diehard Patriots fan in dialogue with a diehard Seahawks fan...what are the chances that neither of you are coming from a place that even remotely resembles objectivity? lol
Will do, thanks!
WOW. Those are two bands who I've always wanted to see, but never muster the energy to make it to any of theirs solo shows. Fucking perfect.
Ah, I wasn't aware of any of this. XMU is always awesome for about a week whenever I rent a car, but ultimately it's every bit as repetitive as a station like KROQ. And their personalities are...
