...Looks like I'll be seeing a lot of partial sets in the evening :(
That's interesting. I walked up to the rail behind it for the middle part of AC/DC's set during weekend 1, and although there were a bunch of people in the front and on the right, most of it was...
Not sure why some people are surprised by a mid-day dearth of bands they like on Saturday. Although I found bands to see all day long this year, there's almost always been a bit of a dead zone for me...
I hope they improve crowd flow over previous years...
Some people were fucking behind the curtains lining one of the tents, and it was incredibly obvious. They finished surprisingly quickly, and were greeted with a round of applause upon exiting.
More thoughts after weekend 2:
-It may be just me, but it appears that the artist/industry/whatever sections for the stages other than the main were decreased in size slightly and moved...
Squarepusher's crowd Friday night seemed smaller than the crowd for Until the Ribbon Breaks the next morning, but it gave me more room to dance. Gorgon City, on the other hand, was a total shit show....
I went to both weekends this year, and did not notice a major difference in crowd behavior between weekends. Everyone was fairly polite for once, and although I ran into a few rude people, that...
If anyone is still looking for the Ministry Trax! Box, they still have some copies left on the Cleopatra records website. I'm glad I thought to check the label's site instead of buying from Discogs;...
Marina and the Diamonds
Todd Terje and the Olsens
Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible
HM: Fitz and the Tantrums, Erol Alkan, Clean Bandit
I think they were still setting things up last minute; I overheard one of the staff say something about there being too much heavy equipment still out on the grounds to let us in.
Joey Badass was on stage for two songs with Kiesza.
-The parking attendants actually knew what they were doing from the beginning of day 1.
-Security and staff were a lot more cheerful than last year.
-The way the set times...
Maybe it's also to do with the kind of rock acts they are booking? I thought AC/DC's crowd was on the small side for a headlining set, and I was surprised by how small Royal Blood's crowd was given...
I only saw part of AC/DC, but it wasn't very crowded in the area to the left of the stage. Mostly just people chilling on the grass pretty spread out from each other. I was able to walk right up to...
There was a few other shirts, including one with the astronaut helmet on it, and blue bandanas with the sun design as well.
Kiesza, Brand New, and Lykke Li were also pretty epic.
Anyone else looking forward to Marina and the Diamonds? I've unfortunately missed her the times she's toured through my area so I'm really excited about seeing her live for the first time.
Kinda surprised that people outside of Canada aren't familiar with them. I remember this song being played on the radio here in California quite a lot when it came out in the early 2000s.
1. Marina and the Diamonds
4. Bad Religion
5. Florence + the Machine
8. Jack White
9. Tame Impala
10. Panda Bear
Was my first time going, and I had a great time. Acts that are obviously enjoying themselves, a mellow atmosphere, lack of obnoxious security guards, and not crowded at all! :) It reminds me a lot of...
Well, I'm 26 and I agree with what's been said about music being more disposable these days, and I also think that a lot of music today just doesn't emphasize strong vocals in general. I grew up...
Daft Punk - 2006 :( Ran out of energy and left early that day instead of staying for their set. Saw them twice on their 2007 tour, but still wish I had been there for that show...
Thanks so much for posting this! I was able to find the Tears for Fears record I was still looking for.
Said by the teenage girl behind me at Lana: "Oh my god she just took off her shoes! (cue creepy voice) That's why I love her!"
I for one enjoyed the lack of standing, meant I could see the stage from back in row V.
1. Pet Shop Boys
3. The Replacements
4. Fatboy Slim
7. Bryan Ferry
8. The Knife
9. Queens of the Stone Age
Bicep moved from second to last Saturday to second to last Sunday.
Really looking forward to seeing them again, their show at the Shrine was one of the best shows I saw last year.
Hopefully it'll be like their show at the Fonda last year, which had a decent number of older songs. I went out of nostalgia for my high-school days and was surprised at how good they still are.
Hopefully you're right, I'd much rather sit anyway :)
Orchestra V... Guess I'll just wear my platforms and hope for the best.
I'd love to see more acts from Japan, or from Asia in general. I'm actually surprised there haven't been more acts from Korea, given the rise in popularity of K-Pop overseas.
In for Computer World. Front Orchestra AA :)
The suspense is killing me.
I hope it comes out early this year, but I predict Monday, January 27.
This looks really tempting. Any good bands on the bottom half of the lineup? I don't recognize most of the names...
Even with the dust storm, I felt fine after weekend 1, but two days after weekend 2 my nose is starting to run and I keep sneezing :( My commute is gonna be FUN tomorrow...
That place was awesome :) Free ice cream, air conditioning, and it was a surprisingly peaceful place to relax in between bands.
I went both weekends and didn't particularly notice any improvements made for weekend 2, but there were definitely new problems with security. Coming in on the purple path I got searched two separate...
I went into the Sahara this Saturday, and there wasn't even any dead grass in there anymore, it was all just sand and dirt :nono
3 is Conversion on the Way to Damascus
-Getting through the security check only took a few minutes
-Parking lot attendants this year knew how to do their jobs
-The wooden ADA path
-The cat merch
-This year's art
The Stone Roses and How to Destroy Angels :nono
-Having so many bands on the second and third lines on Saturday conflict that I can't see all the ones I want, even going both weekends
-Having to watch Red Hot Chili Peppers' set because there's...
When I saw the headliners I was like
But then I saw the rest and then I was like
1. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
2. The Stone Roses
3. The Postal Service
5. How to Destroy Angels
6. The Faint
7. New Order
9. Dead Can Dance
10. IO Echo
Can't wait to hear this on the polo fields!
The lineup looks fucking awesome! Sure, Sunday looks a little weak, but that's only because Friday and Saturday are so stacked. I never thought I'd be able to see Blur, the Stone Roses, and Nick Cave...
Pretty excited for this, just hope they don't get overwhelmed by the sound from neighboring stages. Sunset or night, either way it's gonna be epic :thu
