Cyhi is sooo average, he deserves the small amount of hype he gets. Not saying he's bad, but he isn't anything special. And who cares if Travis Scott gets big because of Kanye? Being famous doesn't necessarily mean your good (ex: Cheif Keef, Soulja Boy, Lil B, etc). And how is Macklemore one dimensional? He has songs about serious topics like gay marriage and his struggles with drug abuse, he has songs that don't have a topic where he is just flowing, and he has songs where he is messing around and having fun. What else do you want him to do?
Sooo you didn't answer how he is one dimensional...
That kidz version might actually be better.
I think the reason people who listen to a lot of rap dont think he's good is because his songs sound like something i could write and perform. It doesn't seem like he has great lyrics or great flow/cadence. Early eminem for example when I was a child i listene; I sat there stunned. I broke my stupid 2001 tape from playing eminen's verse on "Forget about Dre" over and over. Or even Biggies's verse in "Notorious Thugs." When I listen to those i think to myself, I could never ever do this and at least for me, thats how I judge rap.
Saw Macklemore and Ryan Lewis at OSL 2011 and they killed it. It was like a 1pm set and I had never heard of them but he definitely brought the energy and some good laughs, along with a stellar overall performance. He's definitely blown up since then but shit it was a damn good time that i would partake in anyday.
He's nothing super spectacular but I enjoy a few of his songs. Same Love is probably my favorite of his. I expect to see him on the lineup next year.
Idk, I personally think he is phenomenal. I write a lot of songs, and writing stuff like 2 Chainz, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky and all of them is so fucking easy, takes barely any brain work. But trying to write something like Macklemore, J Cole, Hopsin, Eminem, and artists like that is a lottttt harder. For me at least. So that's why I have so much respect for them.
Macklemore is to rap as Yellowcard is to rock n roll
Nuke this thread already.
So two big hits can get you into the Staples Center now? This guy is fucking huge now. If he is on the lineup next year I have no idea where he would be billed.
Probably near the top, unfortunately, up there with Mumford & Sons (another boring band that is now headlining festivals with only two albums & couple hits under their belts).
I don't just like him for his hits. Don't get me wrong, I like Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us (though I liked Can't Hold Us before it was huge, like right when the album dropped) but I think his other songs also helped him gather a big fan base
This is turning into this year's Skrillex thread.
No, maybe not that bad.
I don't get all the hate for this dude. His music is boring, but he did do it all himself and is spreading a good message. That's more than you can say for most artists in the top 40. I don't like the dude, but I really don't get the hate either.
it's because his fans completely misinterpret him because they come from the Jersey Shore.
if this clown gets a headliner spot and Wu tang couldnt..then Im selling my tickets and never coming back.
Do us a favor and sell your tickets anyway.
He be on that posta fo sho baby dawl
he and lewis actually weren't half bad last night at mia fest. could be worse bands on the lineup.
WHITE PEOPLE ARE RIDICULOUS
I'm black and I started this thread...
