Killed it. What a fucking show that was. Stunned.
Yes.
The man proved everybody wrong who thought it was going to be a borefest with absolutely no energy. They outdid themselves. Justin's voice was in tip top shape tonight for all the falsetto. The musicianship of his band is incredible! I got a bit misty eyed during the last 2 songs myself man. Thank u Bon Iver for coming hard on day 2!
I knew this was going to happen.
so beautiful...
Is this a belated April Fools post? I get sleepy just reading the name Bon Iver.
No joke, set was epic. Massive, overwhelming. Best set at this years fest and better than any set I've seen since McCartney. This was on the Prince Portishead Daft Punk level of legendary Coachella shows. I'm a fan but not what I expected at all. No other show this year - Radiohead, Refused, Death Grips, Buzzcocks, James, Jimmy Cliff, WU LYF even in the same area code of excellence.
Having seen Bon Iver Thursday night in Las Vegas this was no surprise.
Holy hell this was amazing. I was admittedly not a huge fan before but this will be one of the first two sets I re-watch monday night once I get home.
That's a bold statement... I heard Jimmy Cliff blew people's minds, that Refused was NOT fucking dead but just awesome, and everyone KNOWS Radiohead is full of amazing live performers.
EDIT: Saw some of the live performance. They did pretty well. I wouldn't say phenomenal but better than I expected. I'll be attending them anyway to secure a Radiohead spot, but now I'm looking forward to it.
I'm laughing at the "taking a nap during Bon Iver" thread now. It got really intense at times - so glad I stayed for the whole set!
i've never seen him without the beard... lol
Bon Iver was my best of the day.
I knew that set would be magic, & it was. Best of the weekend so far. Rick & Andy are witnesses for my tiny freak out over "The Wolves" closing it out. I didn't watch from the spot I intended, but the sound was just fine at the spot where we ended up.
I admit that I commented, "Gee, wonder how that nap is going..." right after "Perth."
I'm going to give the minority opinion here but I did not dig Bon Iver. I have tremendous respect for his voice and his work but his live performance did not do it for me. And the crowd around me, many of which were waiting for Radiohead, were respectful but unengaged.
Epic
The Kaiser Chief's lead singer certainly seemed annoyed that the crowd wasn't more engaged. Not sure if it was a function of people waiting for Radiohead or just a listless main stage crowd. Kasabian probably has the same amount of US fans, but since they played in the Mojave the entire tent was jumping.
That band is punching in the National/Arcade Fire weight class right now.
I watched the webcast, and even that was balls out amazing to me. I saw em at the Shrine back in September, and it's amazing to see how much they've retooled their songs since then to make it an even better show. Thank god I'm seeing them next week.
I missed this for Godspeed!, banking on that I will see Bon Iver in a little bit in Colorado. I wish I could have watched it here, but it's good to know that it was so good.
I fucking hated every second of it. Nathan and I ragged on how "sensitive" he is the whole time. Plus, him going on late and ending late made Radiohead cut their set short.
And don't get me started on that god damned song where he sings auto-tuned. It was over an hour of falsetto hipster masturbation.
I can't understand how you can have so many people on stage and be so boring.
And you're right, they probably cost us a song before PA in the 2nd Radiohead encore.
Lame.
I saw him at a festival a month ago and was pretty disappointed. I dig his recorded stuff but it just didn't do a whole lot for me and from what I saw of the webcast, it was a pretty similar set.
"killed it" has to be the most over used expression in music
I liked it, but it was hard to pay attention as I was getting crushed waiting for Radiohead to get on.
Best set of the entire weekend. Pretty much the one set I would NOT have missed.
I felt drowsy just hearing his sound bleed from the outdoor stage
lol, haters are so funny. of course this was one of the best sets of the day.
his band is incredible... 8-10 dudes up there trading instruments, harmonizing perfectly, it was really great to watch. Even better than the PHX show I saw earlier this year. I loved how they revamped the songs for Main Stage...
Blood Bank > Hinnom felt like an eternity in the best way possible. I think it's funny so many people hate on the set but whatever, I guess it's just cool to hate on him/them. Weekend 2 people take notice though this is not a set to miss. It will make you a fan if you don't spend the entire time complaining/saying it sucks to your friends.
If I was next to anyone complaining loudly I would have told them to shut the fuck up. You're the exact kind of music fan who shouldn't go to a festival like Coachella. No reason to ruin the experience of the people around you because you don't like a band. Listen and respect.
