April 10: Foals w/ the Neighbourhood @ the Knitting Factory
!!!(ChkChkChk) - August 28 - Knitting Factory Reno
I need to get back up to Reno!
Between here and Tahoe, there's always a full and diverse amount of shows all year-round.
I've grown to love this place.
DISCLOSURE - OCT 12th - Knitting Factory RENO

Phoenix w/ Alt-J - Grand Sierra Resort - December 5th.
I went to that Lips show and I really enjoyed that venue. It was so easy to get up front and then also chill in the back in one of those booths. The venue sounded great too, but I never got a straight answer if those were house speakers or the Lips speakers. A nice bonus was being able to get some free drinks at the blackjack tables during the break between the opener and the Lips.
I'm thinking about going up for the Disclosure show but they seem kinda boring live and I'm going to see them at Treasure Island too. I have a job in Termo though so I might be able to expense a lot of the travel. How is that Knitting Factory venue?
Yeah, the GSR is a pretty legit venue. The sound is great, there's ample room to get around, and yeah, it's entirely easy to get free drinks in the casino when there's IN and OUT privileges, (which is basically every show there). The drinks inside the venue itself are also very cheap in comparison to other concert venues. I always preferred the sound from 1/4 of the way back from the stage, due to the acoustics, but you really can't go wrong there.
The Knit is definitely more intimate, you can easily get up for the rail for most shows. The sound has been superb for the vast majority of shows I've been to there, and there's a balcony that they open for the more busy nights. It's a typical concert hall setup, even though they just recently added some side seating and some tables in the back.
There's plenty of cheap bars surrounding the venue downtown for some pre-gaming, all within' walking distance, (which is essential before you go in, because most shows don't allow In and Outs). Drinks can be pricey inside, but there's usually a special each night. Most of the time, they're of the beer and shot variety. I've seen some fantastic shows there, and I highly recommend catching Disclosure live.
I also forgot to add that the balcony at the Knit is 21+, there's another bar up there and a lounge, plus food etc.
Thanks for the response. I've been getting some jobs in the Reno area and have been able to make a little trip out of it a couple times this year. The wife likes the spa at Atlantis but it seems like Grand Sierra is a much nicer hotel/casino. Do you think the Grand Sierra is the best hotel/casino to stay in Reno?
I'm just waiting to see how long of a set Disclosure is going to get at TI to see if I want to see them twice. If they are only getting a 30 or 40 minute set, I might do the Reno show to see a full show. I would love to see them do a dj set, but I guess my only hope for that would be a potential boiler room show in SF.
I would think that the live show would be superior to the dj set, but that's just me..
Yeah, I'd prefer the GSR over the Atlantis as well. But I would also recommended the Peppermill over both of them.
anyone going to this tomorrow?
I wonder who the special guest(s) are?
I'll be there.. Curious about the special guest as well, but not holding my breath for somebody huge.
That being said.. I would love if they snagged someone, (not named AFI), last second from Friday's NSSN lineup.
3/9 TOOL - Reno Events Center
4/16 CHVRCHES - Grand Sierra Theater
4/10 - Queens of the Stone Age @ Grand Sierra Resort
4/20 - Interpol @ The Knitting Factory
5/28 - The Glitch Mob @ The Knitting Factory
6/9 - Neutral Milk Hotel @ The Knitting Factory
Damn, Interpol at the Knitting Factory. May have to try for that...
NMH hasn't sold that date out yet?
I'll be getting home from W2 that day; that'd be a fun one to get up close to since the Knits smaller.
Tickets for $30 here, I got mine. :)
Saw Foster the People at the GSR last saturday and they were excellent. Looking forward to NMH and also Glitch Mob at the Knit, some good shows coming through.
