The Gaslight Anthem w/Against Me!
Wonderful local band Mergence is doing their first show since their performance outdoor at the Hayden flour mill last November. This Saturday night at the sadly soon-to-be-closed Sail Inn.
Just recently announced, and looks likely to be a one-off for them to say goodbye to the Sail Inn (it’s the only show listed on Mergence’s website, and they’ve been on hiatus due to day-job constraints). Whatever else I might have had planned for Saturday, I’ll be at the Mergence show. $12.24 including fees and tax at brownpapertickets; $12 at the door (probably won’t sell out, but who knows). Highly, highly recommend.
And for all here who went to the First Aid Kit Crescent show in May, yes, that was an excellent performance. Even better live than I expected. Not the best out of the dozen or so I’ve caught so far at the Crescent this year (that would be Darkside and London Grammar) but definitely a fun show by a couple of girls who can really sing. Bit pricey compared to most Crescent shows, but certainly worth it (was still only $21 buying at Stinkweeds).
Got tickets for some upcoming Crescent shows that I’m also expecting will be quite good: EMA, Cloud Nothings, the Antlers, Peter Murphy (never did catch Bauhaus back in the day) and Xiu Xiu. Thinking of going to Yelle, too, but with that early November date I’m hoping she’s also at Life is Beautiful and I can catch her there instead (can’t spend all the disposable cash on concerts).
also, brian posehn is coming to crescent. is anyone else interested in going? it's friday 9/19
I’ll reserve judgment until we see what Lombardi brings to Cactus Jack’s, but the couple times I’ve been there in the recent past it sucked pretty badly.
Rude crowd and shitty service. Not once in the scores and scores of times I’ve been to the Crescent, Sail Inn, Last Exit Live, or Rhythm Room in the past few years did I experience anything close to that bad. So wasn’t planning on ever going back.
Now I’ll give it a shot to see if Lombardi has effected a positive change.
If they do some kind of outdoor bandshell like the Sail Inn that could be cool, but I don’t know how that’ll work with the neighbors (never a problem at the Sail Inn from what I heard).
Still gonna miss the Sail Inn.
Slayer w/Suicidal Tendencies and Exodus
HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK HOLY FUUUUUUUCK YES!!!
(for Arctic Monkeys)
here here. Ive never seen them live, so this is exciting news.
Twin Shadow 2014 North American Tour:
10/14 – Phoenix, AZ @ Crescent Ballroom
Hmm, Tuesday show and his third time at the Crescent Ballroom in 3 years. Think I'll need to hear his new album before committing, especially since I was a bit underwhelmed by last show.
nightmares on wax tonight! i will be there!
I just realized I need to cut back on shows, so I probably won't make Arctic Monkeys. Oh well. I've been spending too much.
Antemasque w/Le Butcherettes
EMA on Saturday at Crescent is now listed as a free show.
Maybe I'll go to EMA then!
It took me two separate orders and almost 40 minutes, but I got my pair of pit tickets for Arctic Monkeys in the fan club presale. Dumbest presale ever.
nightmares on wax was great.
the layout of crescent is infuriating though. that area by the soundboard has this short metal fence. people like to lean on it. i assume it's to give food staff a path in front of the soundboard to bring food? so since people lean on the fence, it creates an impression to the sides of the fence that you should stand in that spot. but if you are sitting on those bench seats, people run into you the whole night. the bar has no clear line area. and having two bars, but not sharing tabs is retarded. and having to bring food all the way from the area where you can't get food to the area where you can makes no sense.
i know it was a sold out show, but i felt like i was in the way the entire time. and lots of annoying people. some chick saw me dancing, stood next to me, then started bitching to her boyfriend that i had bumped into her and i heard him say "i don't think she cares". you're right, i don't. dance to the bass with me or get the fuck out of the way, nancypants.
Metronomy at Crescent 10-18. Holy fuck I may have to buy another ticket.
Designer Drugs just popped up on Pollstar as playing The Dressing Room on Friday. It would be an awesome way to spend the 4th but I am skeptical about the whole thing. I'm going to call them tomorrow, I expect to find out that some shitty local band never did proper research when they were naming their band.
The only show I'm definitely buying tickets to right now is Jungle at the Crescent. They were at the top of my too see list at SXSW and canceled both of their shows. I might go to Nick Waterhouse if I'm in the mood and Mineral too. I haven't listened to Antemasque, but I'm sure it will be a lively show. I"m sure there will be a few more big ticket shows for the Fall so that's probably my limited show budget.
Ugh. Same night as ASU/Stanford which I have season tickets for and of course no kickoff time has been announced yet. Guess I'll just hope it doesn't sell out too far in advance and it ends up being an afternoon kickoff.
Oh shit, Mastodon at the Marquee October 18th. Finally a show that doesn't involve purchasing a Mayhem ticket.
