Looks like $33 day of.
Attendance: 100 people +/- ?
guy in line said security quoted about 200 tickets sold. so....light crowd.
Tell me about the Presets, how was it?
Oh you missed it. :( (I didn't go either, lol)
Too buzy getting laid, zzizzy? :cat
There weren't that many people there, but everyone was dancing. The crowd was so loose that mid way through the Presets set I walked between the crowd and was 1 person back from the rail without even touching anyone and still had a couple feet of space around me to groove. They played a lot of songs off their new album, Pacifica, and played all the songs I wanted to hear off of Apocalypso. It was really fun, and I had a great time especially with the space to get down and everyone around me getting down.
The area at Marquee between the bar and the venue where they used to sell merch wide open now so that's kind of cool...but the bathrooms were under construction and all they had were 4 portopotties out front for the whole crowd, so it smelled horrible outside as you walked into the Marquee.
Dang, did they knock the whole wall down, or just remove the merch area to open it up a little bit?
Eww portapotties. When I saw Phoenix there, they had merch off to the left as you enter.
They knocked the whole wall down. And Dylan, you missed out -- I had 2 free tickets and put one up on Facebook. Even mentioned you in the thread. :nono
I'm so glad I went last night. I thought today was going to be hell at work (surprisingly & happily wrong on that front) and that I was going to need a good night's rest. Didn't happen, got like 4.5 hours of sleep, but they were just so goddamn awesome I couldn't tear myself away. It's too bad the show was on a Monday because the crowd would have been even more off the hook had it been on the weekend. (Although maybe that's why the crowd was so awesome, because it was the people committed to actually seeing them instead of just looking for something to do on a Friday/Saturday night.) The only demerits would be for a couple of songs that were really stupid, which I was unfamiliar with & thus must be from their new album.
Dragonette were surprisingly decent, too, although I think they could've cut their set short by at least 2 songs. Started getting old after a while.
You're lying. I just checked, and I don't have any notifications.
Anyway, I'm glad you had fun, and that's pretty fucking awesomet that they knocked the wall down.
"IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Brain surgery leads THE CRYSTAL METHOD to announce that they are delaying the release of their fifth studio album.
Per doctor’s orders following recent brain surgery, Scott Kirkland will remain under home medical treatment. As a result the release of the bands upcoming studio album has been delayed and their summer tour dates have been postponed or cancelled.
Scott Kirkland has prepared the following statement regarding his current medical situation and future plans:
"Many months ago I started experiencing short, but painful headaches. Thinking they were related to too many flights (or one too many flights of tequila), I didn’t think too much about it, but during my annual checkup I mentioned the headaches to my doctor. She recommended a brain MRI. Scary, but No big deal, right???
Well, thankfully no tumors, but the MRI did find something called a ‘benign posterior fossa arachnoid cyst,’ which normally would be left alone and monitored with future MRIs. That diagnosis worked for me because Ken and I were busy putting the finishing touches on our self-titled studio album that would be followed up by a big summer tour.
I was referred to the very talented University of Southern California brain surgeon Dr. Chen, who evaluated the diagnosis and explained that complications with my cyst could arise due to my tendency to get a little excited on stage. He recommended surgery.
A date was set for extraction of said cyst and on April 11, 2013, I was given a dose of the ‘good stuff.’ A few hours later I came to with a well-sutured hole four-and-a-half inches long in the back of my head and a pain that was only appeased by a round of pharmies. After a few days in the hospital, I got to go home and a week later I felt good enough to join Ken in the studio for a couple of hours on two consecutive days. Some of you might have seen the picture on our Facebook page.
Just when I thought I was on the mend, I contracted an infection and, due to complications, I ended up back in the hospital where I spent most of my next 10 days in ICU dealing with a painful lumbar spinal drain, aka a ‘Spinal Tap.’
Pain that seemed to be set on 11 held me hostage for the first 24 hours. The line from the movie Spinal Tap—"Given the history of Spinal Tap drummers, uh, in the past, do you have any fears, uh, for your life?"—made me laugh a few times, but all in all it was not fun.
Finally, this past week I got home to my wonderful family and a healthy supply of antibiotics that automatically dose me every four hours intravenously, and will continue to do so for the next few weeks.
I'm itching to get back in the studio and finish mixing the last two tracks for what is an amazing record with Ken, but I recognize my need to rest until I get the thumbs up for a return to work from Dr. Chen.
I can’t tell you how frustrating it is for me that my health has made us postpone the release of the new record and cancel a summer full of amazing shows. But I am fully intending to be back in the studio in a couple of weeks with Ken, and our agents are starting to work on putting together new shows for the fall.
Love you all and Keep Hope Alive,
I just changed it to Public, not that it does any good now.
Bummer about Crystal Method. I hope he gets better.
Silver Platter posted on Facebook last night that Kendrick Lamar sold out, but I was able to buy a ticket from Mesa Amp's website this morning. It might be getting close though in case anybody was still considering buying a ticket.
the presets were fantastic; this was my fourth time seeing them. as already said, crowd was tiny but quite energetic, they should have booked a smaller venue and gotten a better return on their money. they (and dragonette, whom i loved) could've easily given a half-assed performance given the crowd size, but it didn't seem like they held anything back. great show!
i did the meet and greet package, and was one of only 5 people to do so. we got to sit with the band in their dressing room and shared a couple of beers. we talked about breaking bad and what they thought of phoenix/tempe (they thought the show took place here and not in new mexico). i designed a poster for them that they graciously signed, they seemed quite impressed.
Nice poster you made!
$50 for Kendrick eh. Anyone know how close the light rail runs to Mesa Amp?
Rick, I keep debating that Marilyn Manson shoow. $60 is what's holding me back but I still kinda want to go. Are you still going?
I think the light rail will get you within 3 miles of Mesa Amp.

Lustre Bar at Palomar
Soooo Marilyn Manson and Alice Cooper for $60 at AVA Amp in Tucson sounds a bit more intersting to me than the Marquee show. I tagged you on facebook, Rick.
Mark, I responded to you on Facebook on Saturday: the only tickets that were available when I looked on the AVA website were lawn, which brought the per-ticket fee to $42. Conceivably could drive down Friday after work, splitting gas, and possibly staying at my parents', although I haven't asked them about their plans that weekend yet.
For the Marquee show, if I end up going (will seriously be a Thursday night decision), I am not buying a ticket at the box office. I would get a ticket from one of the scalpers outside the venue, only offering $40. But I have to see how this week shakes out (financially & at work) first before committing to anything.
John Williams with the Phoenix Symphony
Just heard that Animal Collective at the Marquee in October should be announced soon. Possibly this afternoon according to who I heard it from.
Edit: Oct. 22, tickets on sale Friday
Oh, thank you lord! I have praying for some AZ date to pop up.
Although, I don't get paid until next Friday. Think the show will sell out from now till then?
I'm going to K-Dot Lamar, I drunkenly ordered tickets on my phone on the way to Mobb Deep last weekend.
And if you haven't heard, Kendrick is the new Outkast, frealz.
