That Ted Leo one cracks me up every time.
Cat Power - Satisfaction
Cat Power - Wild is the Wind:
Actually, fuck it, just get The Covers Record. Lots of other great covers have been released here and there, too.
Bat for Lashes - A Forest
This one had like 2,000 views when a friend first showed it to me a couple months ago... now? nearly 600,000
The Strokes ft. Eddie Vedder & Josh H - Mercy Mercy Me
that's obadiah parker
def check out his other stuff
love the guy
plus he's from my state, AZ
one of my absolute favorites
covered by The Dismemberment Plan
Oh and I absolutely must add "Superstar" as done by Sonic Youth. The Carpenters version can kill me on its own, but SY's is way too fucking haunting and great. as on the liner notes "not produced, just played"
Just had to share my disgust with everyone
Fall Out Boy covering "Love Will Tear Us Apart"
Nobody has ever covered that well. I've mentioned it before, but Arcade Fire and U2 fucking slaughtered it.
For the record, I still like Fallout Boy's cover of Beat It.
How far do I have to scroll back to find out what cover you're talking about, MP?
on a better note this is my favorite cover ever
I love cover songs. A few of my favorites:
Basically, anything Patti Smith covers sounds good.
Marilyn Manson covers are also usually entertaining.
Love punk covers of songs I hate... the cover actually sounds good. :thu
I love Manson's covers too, generally, but his Tained Love was really lazy.
Sweet Dreams particularly, yes.
The Sweet Dreams cover by Manson was one of the first songs by Manson that got my attention.
Sonic Youth covering Madonna.
Damnit, why couldn't Grizzly Bear open for Radiohead instead of Liars at most of the American shows.
Five Years notwithstanding (athankyou Gonsh), I don't think Arcade Fire cover other bands well. There's always like four or five people surplus to the song's requirements, and they always sound like they rushed it. They do a fantastic cover of Poupée Du Cire, but I will buy Malcolm a frozen lemonade for every non-European who's ever heard of it. I love their versions of Maps and Naive Melody, but neither approach the originals. The only song they ever covered that I did and do still prefer to listen to than the original is Age of Consent.
Works both ways though, they're a tough band to cover too. Foo Fighters took great pride in making a horrible arse of Keep The Car Running and Norah Jones (!?) boring'ed the hell out of Ocean of Noise.
The only band to ever cover them with awesome success was Calexico, who's Ocean of Noise is gorgeous, misremembered nonsensical lyrics and all.
Bjork - You Only Live Twice
Tori Amos covering Joni Mitchell's "Case of You":
Bat for Lashes covering The Boss' "I'm On Fire":
Petra Haden covering, well, you'll figure it out:
Oh, and Elbow covering Destiny's Child:
(I actually have a t-shirt with these kitties on it. Yeah, I'm a dork.)
I was really let down by Arcade Fire's cover of "Still Ill", it seemed like Win just didn't really have the voice which was both surprising and disappointing.
