boards of canada discussion
i dont give a fuck if they've been discussed millions and millions of times. can we please just talk about how great they are, and give me some interesting information on them if you know any, as to why they never play live shows? it's like they are depriving their fans of some of the greatest electronic music known to mankind...

Re: boards of canada discussion
I keep hearing they put subliminal messages in their work, I can't confirm whether that's true or not because i have seen any evidence validating that claim.

i think that's mostly throughout Geogaddi, but i haven't really been able to hear it (consciously)

Re: boards of canada discussion
There is subliminal messaging in Geogaddi, as well as backmasking (a is to b as b is to c) and just downright fucking scary samples put into those songs. But my god, it is brilliant.
Boards of Canada never tour because...well, I don't know why. There is no doubt in my mind that numerous offers to get them doing shows have been made, but seeing as they have yet to accept them, who knows if they'll ever do shows.
But, if they play somewhere in the US ever, my guess is that it will be at Coachella. Maybe Paul can somehow make it happen for the 10th anniversary next year.
Pscyhocandy, they've done about 10 or 11 gigs total. Some were in support of Autechre I believe. There are a few bootlegs of the shows floating around, if anyone is interested in them, drop me a PM and i'll send you a couple.
Oh, and I approve of this thread.

Re: boards of canada discussion
beta, are the bootlegs very different from the original recordings? if so, I'd dig a share...
-
Re: boards of canada discussion
they don't play live shows because of the excessive hype built around them.
so, move to the other millions of threads.

Re: boards of canada discussion
to be honest, I just received them from Menik. I am currently giving them a listen to, so i'll be able to answer that question soon.
Or maybe erik can show up and just answer it for me haha.

Re: boards of canada discussion

Re: boards of canada discussion
ya know what's really great?
cLOUDDEAD - Dead Dogs Two (Boards of Canada remix)
great like whoa

Re: boards of canada discussion
I think BoC would only come out for a ATP show, or something else that's small and less pressure-filled.

No kidding. That backwards "Teddy Bear's Picnic" is downright creepy. And isn't A is to B as B is to C a perfect audio palindrome or something like that? It sounds the exact same played backwards and forwards?

Re: boards of canada discussion
I'm not talking trash on BofC in anyway, because I have been very into them for many years.....but to me, I can't see them being very interesting live.....has ANYONE ever seen them before??

Yeah its something like that.
According to wiki, "haunting references to horned gods ("You Could Feel the Sky"), Branch Davidian cultism ("1969"), backmasking ("A Is to B as B Is to C") and hypnotism ("The Devil Is in the Details") abound. The album is riddled with symbolism in its song titles, subliminal/subconscious messages, the album artwork and even its beat structures. Although it retains Boards of Canada's trademark soundscapes and melodic vignettes, the album can be unsettling and fraught with paranoia at times"
Unsettling? I agree with that, this album (as well as some parts of MHTRTC) is so hypnotizing its scary. I am literally afraid to listen to this album while i'm driving at night, because i've come so close to crashing due to just being so engaged by the music.

Re: boards of canada discussion
The horned god reference was a lot more creepy when I thought they could be referring to the devil. It turns out the God of Nature has horns, so they might be referring to that.
-
Re: boards of canada discussion
for all you know, they could.
also, the album run time from start to finish is 66 minutes and 6 seconds.

Re: boards of canada discussion
I downloaded some freeware program specifically to play select tracks from Geogaddi backwards and it really adds to the album. Everything I learn about it increases it's pure amazingness, like when I found out what the sample for '1969' was actually saying ('Although not a follower of hseroK divaD, she's a devoted bridge Davidian'). Someone also told me that 1969 was the year the government outlawed the gas that was used in the Waco siege, which may or may not be true. And the backmasked 'We love you all' on 'A is to B as B is to C' has got to be one of the creepiest things I've heard in my life. Oh jesus I need to listen to this record now.

Re: boards of canada discussion
I love their Music has the right to Children LP, but otherwise I've not really heard the rest of their music. Anybody recommend any tunes by them?
-
Re: boards of canada discussion
wtf? This cant be real. Last year, the guy 'leaking' the lineup, just invented all the names and made a few lucky guesses and got Perry Farrell pissed off. They are trying to leak the lineup, before the guy who makes the shit up does? About that...

Because people seem to be bored and figured the holiday makes it a slow news day. Roo announces tomorrow morning, right?
