I think they are playing a few shows in Europe and they played one new song at 'chella.

Is this full time now or ??

It looks that way. They played a new song, and they're apparently heading into the studio in the fall, with a new album out in Spring '08.

Good. It seemed they were genuinely chuffed with the crowd that came to see them. I was pleasantly surprised too that so many saw their set.

Anyone else have problems trying to explain 'The Jesus and Mary Chain' to people who have never heard of them ? No they are not a Christian rock band ... No, they are Scottish ...

1/2 the time, I don't bother.

JAMC needs dinero! Just hope their new album won't crap out like the new Stooges...

Actually I've never ever had to explain JAMC to anyone...

...That would require me to be a fan of their music in the first place.

I hope they're back together, I dug the new song.

19. I found about about the Velvet Underground my freshman year in high school while watching Trainspotting. Fell in love with VU while reading up on them heard about Jesus and Mary Chain as the 80s VU. Checked them out and loved them as well. What'd you think of them?

Jeez, it really wasn't that long ago that they broke up. If they had stuck around a year longer, they probably would have played at the first Coachella.

This is my first year on the boards- does this same kind of talk go around about the reunions every year? I mean, The Pixies are more respected, but JAMC were easily more well known than them around the same time. Hell, The Pixies COVERED JAMC on their last album, because they heard "Head On" on the radio every day on their way to the studio.

They were NOT an obscure band in the US. I remember seeing them for the first time on some network TV talk show in the 80's. They toured on Lollapalooza one year. (Same year the Chilli Peppers headlined.) They're on a bunch of soundtrack albums.

They used "Happy When It Rains" in a damn Chevy Truck commerical, for Cripes(tm) sake!

As Jack Black said about JAMC's "Psychocandy" in the film "High Fidelity"..."I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DON'T OWN THAT RECORD! THAT'S INSANE!"

I love High Fidelity. I may just watch that tonight.

31, been a fan since I saw them at Coachella. Hoping to be able to see them again soon. Almost like a dark and dirtier version of the stone roses. At least that is my take on them.

I'm 32. I've been a fan for 19 years.

05-09-2007, 02:26 PM
ooo, you're so cool.

05-09-2007, 03:52 PM
The only person that I had to explain it to thought that the 'JAMC' was like the 'YMCA.'

05-09-2007, 04:03 PM
ooo, you're so cool.

I was merely answering the question. No need to go on a bitch attack.

05-09-2007, 04:04 PM
I was teasing. I've been a moderate JAMC fan for probably 15 or 16 years, but just stating how long I've liked them doesn't really make me a "better" fan than anyone else.

05-09-2007, 04:08 PM
I wasn't trying to imply that I was "better." Other people stated how long they'd been fans, so I did too.
I am pretty cool though, thanks for recognizing that.:)

The Jesus & Mary Chain heading back to US, playing SXSW
JAMC at Webster Hall (more here)

Its been five years since the brothers Reid have made their way around the US as The Jesus & Mary Chain. Now it looks like the band will be back on our shores to play a select set of dates in and around SXSW including the 35 Denton Festival. "Underpinning the Reid brothers' three-chord assault on these 2012 dates will be (sometimes drummer and guitarist from Pyschocandy line up) John Moore on guitar, Phil King on bass and a drummer to be announced." Full tour dates, which do not currently include NYC, are listed below. It's unclear if any more will be added.
The J&MC shows are in celebration of the band's upcoming slate of reissues which include additional bonus tracks and bonus DVD content. Head to the band's site for more info.
35 Denton also recently announced Atlas Sound and many more bands on its lineup.

March 11 -- Denton, TX, 35 Denton Festival
March 12 -- New Orleans, LA, House Of Blues
March 13 -- Houston, TX, House Of Blues
March 14 to 17 (specific date TBA) -- Austin, TX, SXSW
