View Full Version : Coachella vets, do you prefer 3 days or 2?

05-01-2007, 04:34 PM
After getting your first 3 day Coachella, what do you think?

05-01-2007, 04:35 PM
depends...... but im going with 3

05-01-2007, 04:51 PM
it was rough, and i guess i only had 2 and a half days because i didn't get there on friday until 6 (missed of montreal...i cried a little.) but 3 days is way better than 2. fuck it, push the start time to 3 or 4 pm each day and make it a 4 day festival. avoid the sun.

05-01-2007, 04:56 PM
Three days, no doubt...
By the third day, everyone develops a thick skin to the heat, or maybe that was just me.

05-01-2007, 04:57 PM
yeah i was less tired on sunday

05-01-2007, 05:00 PM
3 days.. The weekend still went by sooo quick.

3 Days is the exact perfect amount.
I used up every last drop of everything I had in me just to make it to the end.
Loved every minute.

05-01-2007, 05:03 PM
I can't believe it's over too...but, 3 days was a bit much. I would do it again, but would be just as happy with 2 again.

05-01-2007, 05:08 PM
I would say 2 days with better headliners. I only liked Bjork as a headliner, and Saturday was almost completely useless for me.

05-01-2007, 05:11 PM
not a vet, but have to say that was the quickest 3 days of my life

05-01-2007, 05:16 PM
since a lot of people like to consider Coachella their spiritual refreshing, 3 days seems very appropriate. It felt more removed from the world than other times. Harder for sure, but give me tres.

denies the day
05-01-2007, 05:17 PM
Going in, I thought my body would just give out after the second day. Instead, I had just as much energy. I could've done a fourth day, no prob. But certainly not camping.

3, even though I was basically dead at the end of the last day.

also nice meeting you malcolm :)

05-01-2007, 05:39 PM
3 was fine with me. I was able to see a lto more things and not sacrifice as much as I have in previous years. I need to pace myself a little better though. I went balls to the wall saturday and Sunday I was hiding out for a long time.

05-01-2007, 05:39 PM
bring it on! give me four days!! btw, are there any festivals longer than 3 days?

05-01-2007, 05:44 PM
Goes without saying.

05-01-2007, 05:45 PM
I loved 3 days, but I don't think I'd go 4.

05-01-2007, 05:50 PM
3 is the magic number.

05-01-2007, 05:53 PM

Great conversation, by the way.

I'm somewhat of a special case, but I definitely prefer 2. The one good thing about 3 is that it allows me to choose Saturday plus my favorite of either Friday or Sunday. But I don't like the feeling of having missed an entire day.

this was my first year, but 3 days flew by. i can't imagine it being only two.
yes, i completely crashed yesterday, but even though all the time there was go time i made it through. totally worth it.

05-01-2007, 06:58 PM
I mean Bonnaroo is 4 days.

So yeah, the more Coachella the better.

05-01-2007, 07:04 PM
Two fucking amazing days. Three is too tolling on the body, especially when camping.

05-01-2007, 07:35 PM
two great days is fine for me...sunday was kinda usless for me except for Explosions in the Sky but i ended up not going sunday anyways due to my allergies.

05-01-2007, 07:40 PM
I liked the 3, but it was pretty stressful getting there on Friday. If you're traveling any kind of distance (say, flying in from the East coast) it takes massive planning and knowing stuff such as the rental car companies taking forever, the 10 getting horribly bogged down after 3pm, etc.

05-01-2007, 07:41 PM
since a lot of people like to consider Coachella their spiritual refreshing, 3 days seems very appropriate. It felt more removed from the world than other times. Harder for sure, but give me tres.

w3rd! 2 days, 3 days or a Coachella week it's a good time. But yeah I guess if you're camping they'd need a lot more shade & water otherwise peeps would start dying.

05-01-2007, 07:49 PM
I would go with 3 days again next year. I was more exhausted this year for sure but Coachella seems to drain me in one way and energize me in another.

05-01-2007, 07:54 PM
Not a vet but three days seemed pretty good, although i totally ran myself ragged friday and was just dead saturday morning i paced myself better and was good through sunday. The heat played more into it though than anything else.

05-01-2007, 07:56 PM
3 days definately was awesome. On the way back home Monday morning I was complaining that I wished that there was another day of Coachella.

05-01-2007, 08:42 PM
3 seemed cool, it took over half a day just to get out of the crowd

3 days by far. Friday was a nice starter. Not too crazy. A bit laid back. I found myself with more time to see more art. Don't know if it was because I didn't know some of the bands or there was more time between acts.

05-01-2007, 08:46 PM

Yea the artwork was really impressive. I enjoyed the cirlcled tent maze thing that at the end there was a massive cirlce or bowls and joints being passed around

05-01-2007, 09:26 PM
3 days is way better . It just felt better ! I was amazed by every performance
and surprised by how many of my favorite acts I was able to see all 3 days.
way more fuckin people though haha

05-01-2007, 10:03 PM
3 THREE 3 THREE !!! (may be more...)

05-01-2007, 10:07 PM
My legs still hurt today, but 3 days is ok, loved it, on sunday drugs were used to ease the pain.

05-01-2007, 10:12 PM
Im glad I got to experience it for 3days but Im fucking exhausted. My body feels like Jello and I cant talk. If it wasnt for the Teddybears, Sunday would have been useless to me. Im gonna say two days. The 3rd day dealing with parking woes drove us bananas

05-01-2007, 10:17 PM
Glad to hear most of you liked 3 days. I said I didn't like that, plus the earlier in the year schedule out of principle. haha. 2 days is all I've experienced, and it seemed to work out perfect. If next year is 3 days again though I'll probably go check it out.

05-01-2007, 10:29 PM
im torn. of course 3 days is nice cuz its an extra day at coachella, but at the same time its so fuckin draining that every night when i get home i dont know how im going to wake up and do it again. then of course i recover a bit and am ready to go, but by day 3 i was pretty beat. the bad part about 3 days, besides being so exhausted on sunday, is that its so much more expensive. you have to pay for an extra days ticket, an extra nights stay somewhere, eat more food, drink more booze, take more drugs, and also take an extra day off work. that shit adds up! i cant decide...

05-01-2007, 10:58 PM
Three by far. The first day we were all a bunch of crazy kids, just wigging out trying to do it all. The next two days were great just because I had my bearings and I wasn't running around like Christmas Day. Day three I literally dragged my butt to the main stage, but it was worth it in the end.

ps, faithless rocked my world.

05-01-2007, 11:11 PM
2 days is good for me...I was so exhausted monday and had a 16 hour drive home. 2 is good...

05-02-2007, 06:41 AM

But, man... did my feet hurt.

05-02-2007, 07:27 AM
For some reason I felt more tired last year with 2 days, this time it just went very fast.

05-02-2007, 07:46 AM
3 days was too much for me.. I tried to pace myself with dancing on Fri ...but the heat just killed me on Sat... by Sunday we were living off fumes..my dancing technique turned into a body twitch and head bop.. next time I will just hit up the weekend and leave Friday off.. also 2 nights in a hotel room would be sweet. Camping was brutal..

05-02-2007, 08:24 AM
I think the assumption here is that there's enough talent to fill up 3 days every year.

I don't mind 3 days as long as we don't get a bunch of trash early on each day just so there will be 3 headlining acts.

05-02-2007, 08:32 AM
When it comes to Coachella, the more the better. 3 days, 4 days, 5..6...eternity....

05-02-2007, 09:00 AM
I was so exhausted by the end of the day on Friday (< 3 hrs. sleep) that I didn't think I'd ever make it through, but by Sunday I easily could have handled a couple more days.

05-02-2007, 09:05 AM
3 was perfect. after 2 i always wish there could be more. this time i feel like i had a complete experience.

05-02-2007, 09:16 AM
Three-day Coachella seemed to go by just as quickly as two-day Coachella. I am in favor of prolonging the Coachella 'weekend' any number of days. :)

05-02-2007, 09:39 AM
i went to coachella twice now but it was only the two day ones ... i do think 3 is better though because it is somewhat of a destination festival .. being where it is, cept for LA peeps, you spend a lot of money and time getting there, so to make it longer, makes it seem more worth it ... and as someone said, the roo is 4 days this year, so is wakarusa, and sxsw is but that is a different critter .. cr****

05-02-2007, 09:57 AM
3 days - no less. Scaling back would be torturous, now that we have a taste and feel for three. I've been every year except the first year and I've learned the tricks of the trade. 3 days doesn't make it any more exhausting. 3 days you can see and experience so much more and you have less of that "I'm missing sumthin' feeling." With three days, I got to see all of the art and experience and hear so much more music. Yes, Saturday I was pooped, but I was ready and ragin' by Sunday morning!!!

05-02-2007, 10:16 AM
I liked three. It was tough camping, but it was nice to not have to set up and tear down so quickly. I just paced myself and was fine....

05-02-2007, 10:33 AM
If the list was shorter but better - two days would have been great. After seeing Rage - it didn't matter if it was three or two days. If global warming continues - they are going to have to hold the festival earlier in April when its cooler during the day.

05-02-2007, 10:44 AM
I honestly think it should be a week long. Maybe a month.

05-02-2007, 11:55 AM
Two days is fun but three days was freak'n awsome!!! If you can feel the burn that means Coachella is working...

05-02-2007, 12:03 PM
3 days all the way.

At the end of night 2 I was thinking how much it would have sucked if that was it. But no, another day!!!

Coachella should really go past midnight. A friend of mine was telling me about a silent disco she went to in Europe. To get around the noise ordinances they handed everyone headphones. There were 2 DJ's spinning and you could pick which DJ you wanted to hear. She said it was funny to see someone grooving out to a different beat.

05-02-2007, 01:16 PM
I was worried I wouldn't make it through 3 whole days of crazyness and heat, but it was actually not as bad as I thought it would be.Friday was very chill for me, Ran around like a chicken with my head cut of Saturday almost fell asleep during TGTBTQ at the end of the night and thought I'd never make it through Sunday. But I was surprisingly energized the next morning, and even after dancing my ass off to CSS/Klaxons I still had energy for some Air/Damien Rice action. All in all I think 3 days was actually kinda perfect.

05-02-2007, 01:45 PM
for me, what matters is each day's lineup. i had quite a bit of downtime on sunday & wished there were more acts i was interested in. i'm all for a third day, but only if there are as many quality acts as the other days.

05-02-2007, 02:21 PM
I actually liked having down time though. When I went in 05 it was like back to back to back people. I barely had time to eat and pee let alone chill out in front of the art installations and talk to cool people. This year I saw much more in terms of the festival as a whole.

05-02-2007, 02:29 PM
I have loved Coachella as a 2 day festival, but 3 days allowed me to have one day just find people and experience some things I've never found before, like a one day coachella love. However 2 days always seemed to be a really unique timeframe to me, its amazing how much you could experience in just 2 days at Coachella. I would be very satisfied if Coachella came back next year as a 2 day fest.

05-02-2007, 03:05 PM
2 days for sure.

Friday was almost a wasted day. Highlights could have been added to sunday from friday and it would have been possibly the best 2 days in the history of Coachella.

I will attend either way, but I much prefer 2.

05-02-2007, 03:53 PM
Lets see......I am going for 3 days!! ^_^ Amazing, 2 days was just too short and it was over before it started in my eyes. But 3 days was just enough to really have fun and SEE everything there is too see.

3 days next year please!

05-02-2007, 04:05 PM
3 days easy!! It is a HELL of a lot more exhausting but I mean 3 days of music? you can't beat that!! Here is for it eventually going for a whole week!!

05-02-2007, 05:10 PM
4 but I voted for 3 cause that'll work fine for me too.

05-02-2007, 05:54 PM
2 days, i think it will revert will all the locals and new housing in that area complaining about the noise.

05-02-2007, 05:59 PM
Two fucking amazing days. Three is too tolling on the body, especially when camping.

C'mon now. I camped for 5 nights (thur > tue offsite) and I'm fine.

05-02-2007, 08:34 PM
3 days... less likely to be set confilcts + it draws out the coachella experience

05-02-2007, 09:12 PM
First time at Coachella, but these 3 days were unforgettable!!! What a moment of my life! I am looking forward for next year!

05-02-2007, 10:20 PM
I don't understand this. It's like saying "Would you prefer 150 presents on Xmas or 100?"

05-03-2007, 06:45 AM
Might like to live in a Motel next time because camping is filthy and annoying.

05-03-2007, 07:25 AM
Friday was rad cause it felt low key and was able to just roam and get acclimated for sat/sun!!! This is the first year I've come back from caochella rested/relaxed!

05-03-2007, 07:32 AM
two, three, four, a week lets do it!

05-03-2007, 08:58 AM
Dude, I can't believe are complaining about having down time.. i feel like i never get enough down-time at coachella.. I mean the art installations are a big part of the experience, I wish I could stay at them longer instead of think "oh, I gotta go see [insert act here] right now!".. 3 days was great.. and yes it will cost more money.. but if you are traveling from out of state, I think it will feel like it is much more worth it, because you get a third day.. I don't know.. I was fucking tired, but I loved it..

I really think they should have it a couple weeks earlier though, so it's not AS hot.. The heat really takes a toll on your body..

05-03-2007, 10:50 AM
After waiting a whole year for Coachella, 3 days is definetely better. The HEAT, the cost, the bathrooms, the dirt, the massive ammounts of people, and the expensive food are all worth it. I'd rather have an extra day of that shit to see another days worth of bands.

05-03-2007, 12:03 PM
Well, the good thing about the festival being three days is that the people who want to go all three days can, and those who only want to attend one or two days can do that too -- you've got the choice.

I'm all about being pro-choice :)

05-03-2007, 01:41 PM
Has anyone else felt like crap all week until today? That 3rd day was just too much. By Sunday the fields had all dried out and the dust factor was too high. I don't usually have allergies too bad, but I felt like I had asthma!

Bring back 2 days and maybe find a way to go until 2am on the smaller stages or domes. We're wasting too much of the cool evenings.

05-03-2007, 03:28 PM
I'm really sick today (was more sick yesterday).. IT'S ALL WORTH IT THOUGH.

05-03-2007, 07:36 PM
Coachella for a week. Anyone?

05-03-2007, 09:17 PM
3 days totally.. Coming from out of state it is so much more worth it.

Besides there would be less conflicts.. just thinking how would have been a conflict Jarvis Cocker vs Arcade Fire give me chills

05-04-2007, 02:17 PM
Either way is fine by me. I'll go if it's 1, 2 or 3 days.

05-04-2007, 04:16 PM
This year I saw much more in terms of the festival as a whole.dude, me too. i would go four days if we could. but i loved three days, because i saw a ton of bands, but still had time to check out the whole festival and not worry about missing a band i wanted to see. this year felt more complete than the last three years for me.

05-06-2007, 12:19 AM
3 days > 2 days - definitely pulls in more people from overseas

05-06-2007, 05:40 PM
Three days. Usually, the first day I'm trying to acclimate and
reconnoiter...it didn't seem as difficult this year because Friday
was so sparse and fresh, so it felt like easing into it in a less frantic way.
I spent lots of time scoping out the food choices. I found it to be very

05-06-2007, 05:45 PM
3 - able to pace, and made the 10 drive each way not so bad.

05-06-2007, 05:45 PM
two, three, four, a week lets do it!

Yep, I'll take as many as I can get.

05-06-2007, 06:08 PM
In the past I've had just as much fun at two day Coachellas as three. To me the real advantage of the three days was the later start times, less time in the hottest part of the day. The real pain was funding a hotel for 3 days instead of 2 - especially when we had to make last minute changes when rooms were scarce and/or expensive.

I'd hate to miss a day - did that once and regretted it, I just hope the line-up quality stays the same so I can justify putting up the money.

05-06-2007, 06:47 PM
having been to ALL of the coachella's...

3 days for me. i would love to see the whole week tho. make it 7!

05-06-2007, 07:43 PM
Coachella for a week. Anyone?

05-06-2007, 09:00 PM
I'm down for the week! The more music the better!

05-07-2007, 10:20 AM
one day, 12 stages!!! Any one else with me...?

05-07-2007, 04:50 PM
3 days for sure... It's like... hard to explain how 3 days of great bands followed by nights of partying and hanging out with like-minded people can completely refresh you.

05-10-2007, 06:59 PM
As I said on the Coachella lounge, Coachella should be 4 days, just like Bonaroo.

05-10-2007, 07:28 PM
I'll take a week thank you very much.

Twice a year.

It's my Happy Place.

rage patton
05-12-2007, 06:23 PM
one day, 12 stages!!! Any one else with me...?

Worst idea ever.
Conflicts would be the death of a lot of people.
On a serious note... after Saturday, all I could think about was how thankful I was the event was not over! By the end of Saturday I felt like there was still more the be explored and that experience had not yet been complete. By the end of day 3 I was tired, dirty, had a dislocated thumb and I was as happy as could be. Adding a fourth day would be brutal. If there was a fouth day, I would have to hotel it. 2 days is much to little. 3 days is perfect.
With that being said, I did not vote because this is my first Coachella.

05-12-2007, 06:56 PM
The only downside of 3 Days was that the Sahara Tent smelled horrible the third day.

I blame that on the three days.

05-13-2007, 09:37 AM
3 days was magic, it flew by so fast. can't believe it's over!!!

05-13-2007, 10:02 AM
FOUR DAYS, damn it!

05-15-2007, 09:47 AM
Oh god. Now he's bumping this in here too.

05-15-2007, 10:50 AM
one day, 12 stages!!! Any one else with me...?

That would be a total headache!!! You did notice the sound bleed didn't you???

05-15-2007, 11:25 AM
3 days is what I vote for! More time and more music....

Anything that involves more music is a good thing!

I think they need to build a Coachella themed casino on Indian Land out there. The theme of the casino will be music. Every week they will have musical acts and then once a month they will have a Coachella style mini festival. Only once a year will they have the full event. They can build a huge easier to access and park at polo field that they can rent out for other events. It will be amazing!

Hmm, maybe I've had too much coffee today!

01-22-2008, 04:00 PM
Agreed. Three day Festival for sure. Music fests is an escape from our tough work weeks, and I don't know about anyone else, but the three days seem to go very quick. I never want it to end!

01-22-2008, 04:05 PM
3 days for sure.
They changed it to 3 days and added the stagecoach festival to make it more worthwhile for the polo fields who were planning to sell the grounds for big bucks to real estate developers.

So really. if you like goin to coachella there's no question. it's 3 days or nothin.

01-22-2008, 04:09 PM
I voted 2-day when this poll was created back in May. I still think 2-day.

01-22-2008, 04:09 PM
How about 3 days at 2 day prices?

If money wasn't an issue, I'd say go all week. Coachella is an oasis in a dull life.

01-22-2008, 04:31 PM
3 days, but for all the guys out there, make sure you vaseline or cream down, cause chapped balls puts the HELL in Coachella.

01-22-2008, 04:33 PM
Wow, I totally remember this thread. I voted 3 days. Why did this get revived?

01-22-2008, 04:40 PM
I'll take a week thank you very much.

Twice a year.

It's my Happy Place.

Me too. Its like a musical disneyland for adults, epic. (and it still is)

Get a fuckin job, you dirty hippie.

01-23-2008, 10:12 AM
I was originally skeptical of going to 3 days (been going since 2002), but I ended up *loving* it. Normally by the end of the second day i was exhausted, but i got through 3 days no problem. One thing that maybe helped is rather than showing up at 11am on sat and sun, maybe because it was three days I group got to the grounds around 2 each day. And this made *all* the difference in terms of exhaustion levels. 3 days also made me run around alot less and just sort of enjoy the whole experience.. when it was 2 days it was all about maximizing every minuet.

01-23-2008, 10:16 AM
I've only experience three days, but I feel the two day format would serve Coachella better, especially in the coming years now that GV is supporting fucking APW...

01-23-2008, 10:18 AM
2 Days with Sahara tent afterhours.

01-23-2008, 10:51 AM
2 is fine. the problem is on the 3rd day its so friggin hot and im so tired im just sitting around not wanting to do anything.

01-23-2008, 01:38 PM
The more the better. I could go all week if the line-up is kick ass.

3 for me
