anyone driving from San Diego going to take the 79 to the 74 through east SD county instead of going up through riverside? It seems like a shortcut, but according to google earth the road is really twisty..

has anyone driven this way before and have any comments about it? Maybe it has better views than rt 10?

I've driven that road. You can hit up Pechanga in Temecula, the biggest casino in Cali. It's all indian reservation, but it's a nice drive. The74 coming into Indian Wells and the Coachella Valley is a killer road, it is twisty but its a great view of the entire desert region.

Takes more time to get there, less traffic, but is a two lane road.

it cuts 30 minutes off of your drive or more..i usually just take the 215-15-60-10 i dont like the windy road (74)

I was thinking of this route as well. It looks ok until about 10-15 miles west/south west of palm springs. I am wondering if the really curvy part is mountains. Any confimations?

yes mountains, straight up, and curvy. Kinda scary but fun nonetheless. Great view of the desert cities.

i do 74 all the time, its great when no slow vehicles are in front of you but if so... you're screwed. it's really not as bad as people make it out to be either, nice ride, just be sure you know how to drive.

yes the last few miles are a little scary, but it not too bad. This is the only route I take.I like mountain roads.Plus the views are so much better.

LOTS of fatal accidents on that road. DO NOT drive too fast on curves & watch out for crazy drivers. Be patient with slow drivers & large trucks. Otherwise its a nice scenic route.

It's a awesome drive, sweet views but a little bit longer and more dangerous.

Take your time..5 miles less than the speed limit.... very windy snatch back curves for 20 min.....4000 ft elevation. at least one time travel for the experience.
