View Full Version : Your favorite newly-discovered coachella artist?

03-24-2007, 12:07 PM
So I've been listening to a lot of new music from artists I haven't heard before that are on the Coachella line up...so far my favorite is Spank Rock...or MSTRKRFT...or !!!.

03-24-2007, 12:12 PM
1. Hot Chip -- got "the warning" months ago, didn't like it much, then started listening since the Coachella announcement -- now I think they're brilliant
2. MSTRKRFT -- this year's Daft Punk? Either way they'll be sick
3. Justice -- see above
4. !!! -- knew only one song, now I'm eagerly awaiting their chaos
5. Brazilian Girls -- if only because the drummer and guitarist are super hot, grrrrr

03-24-2007, 12:21 PM
New Pornographers

So far this year, nobody has become a "favorite for life" favorite that I got into because of Coachella like the Pixies, the Dresden Dolls, or Daft Punk.

03-24-2007, 12:22 PM
Justice, CSS, Amy Winehouse(well paid more attention after she got on the line up)

03-24-2007, 12:23 PM

Oh please. I was listening to Air on the way to work the other day, and I felt like all the serotonin in my body dumped out. I was way blissed out. :)

I'm also digging the Noisettes and CSS as above.

Of Montreal - great new album, now I have to get the older ones! So, did they influence the Scissor Sisters or vice versa?

03-24-2007, 05:32 PM
I guess I have to check out Justice.

Mine is LCD Soundsystem, kinda. I'd heard them, but I only picked up the new album because they were playing Coachella and that was the most pleasant surprise since Jesus.

Oh, and I always knew I should check out JAMC, but it was Coachella that made me finally do it. Why did I wait so long?

I dont like Placebo's new music. It makes me sad. If they dont conflict with Rage or Manu Chao, I will for sure check them out though. Just in hopes they play some old music.

03-25-2007, 12:34 AM
!!! - I've heard about them, but the stuff I've heard is excellent!
Infected Mushroom - Simply amazing, their performance is going to be amazing i can feel it.
Kaiser Chiefs - Nothing too original like Wolfmother, but I'm looking forward to it.
Justice - Kinda knew about them through MSTRKRFT. Haven't heard any material until the music player. Really excited to see them, worth getting a good spot for IMO.
Busdriver - Good sound, something to see early in the day.

03-25-2007, 06:31 AM
The Decemberists - I ignored this band for awhile for no real reason.
Teddybears - Picked this up after hearing Cobrastyle (feat. Mad Cobra). Thought they would be an interesting reggea-style band to checkn out. Little did I know they were completely opposite of my expectations.
Andrew Bird - Nothing to say really.

03-25-2007, 12:14 PM
David Vandervelde.

Oh he's not gonna be there.

That sucks!

03-25-2007, 12:21 PM
Tilly & The Wall and GoGol Bordello.
I would have said Silversun Pickups, but I think I saw the Lazy Eye video a day or 2 before the line-up came out.

03-25-2007, 12:23 PM
i'd never listened to gogol bordello or the black keys before.. and although they're completely different.. i'm liking both.

I knew of the Gogol Bordello for a while now. I am so excited they are going. They are the act I am most excited about on Friday.
The Gogol Bordello are a must see live act!

Unfortunately, no 'newly-discovered' artist is becoming a solid 'favorite for life' type band for me. Alot of the bands playing Coachella that I don't listen to are just not interesting me at all as I have checked out their websites. Way too much jingle jangle indie/pop bands for my taste.(good, the bad, and the queen and the decemberists= the worst shit I have ever heard)
I am crazy about the bands that I was listening to before the lineup was announced (RATM, Kings of Leon, Sonic Youth, Arcade Fire, RHCP, Air, Willie Nelson, Bjork)......

however, i am now a moderate fan of the Black Keys, Explosions In the Sky, Stephen Marley, and Silversun Pickups.....
hopefully their live sets will make me a die-hard lifelong fan of one/all of them.

03-25-2007, 05:49 PM
Peter, Biorn, & John! Can't get enough of Writers Block... Good stuff.

Cocorosie and Rage Against Charlie Sheen also rock.

03-25-2007, 06:42 PM
wow.. explosions in the sky.. how did I never hear this band before..they have so much feeling to their songs. im def not missing this set list.
now im off to download some Peter Bjorn and John

03-25-2007, 09:14 PM
I've become fanatical regarding Gogol Bordello and CSS... how did I not know of either? I'm really liking Anathallo so far too.

03-25-2007, 09:16 PM

03-26-2007, 07:10 AM
Peter Bjorn and John
Interpol (I always thought they were annoying before but I gave them a second chance and love it now)
Gogol Bordello

03-26-2007, 07:31 AM
arguably the three greatest artists of alltime in Rage, Wu Tang, AND MF DOOM is going to be there. HOLY FUCKING SHIT....

03-26-2007, 08:10 AM
listened to The Good, The Bad and The Queen album for the first time after reading about them here. I love that cd

listen to The Good, The Bad and The Queen album for the first time after reading about them here. I love that cd

I liked their two first singles (Kingdom of Doom and Herculean), but got the actual cd yesterday. Good stuff.

1. Faithless - knew very little going in. Now they're my number 1 act to catch on Friday.

2. Tokyo Police Club - knew nothing going in. Love the lil bit they have out.

3. Digitalism - really diggin what I've heard. Excited to catch their set.

4. LCD Soundsystem - once again, I knew very little. Recently picked up Sound of Silver and love it. Big fan now.

5. Jesus and Mary Chain - always liked their music, but never knew enough of it or owned any of it. Now I do.

Other bands I've given a listen since the lineup was announce who I've never heard of before and like what I've heard so far are ... Gotan Project, Junior Boys, Soulwax Nite Versions, and Explosions in The Sky.

There are so many I've already been a big fan of (Bjork, Jarvis, Ratatat, Hot Chip, MSTRKRFT, Brazilian Girls, !!!, Blonde Redhead, etc.) and there are many more I've yet to discover.

03-26-2007, 10:04 AM

The Kooks
Jarvis Cocker
Crowded House
