View Full Version : Won't You Be My Neighbor?

Dear Boardies,

Every year I usually camp with a big group, but our group of 16 has dwindle into 3. We only have one car and I'm wondering what would be best? Should we just chance it and see if the people we camp next to are friendly and fun or should I plan a caravan of board people (or alternately join someone's caravan) where I can meet up with people who I know will be friendly and fun?

PS: I have a hammock.

we have 3 cars in our group. a 4th car would give us a common area in the middle. I would have to ask some follow up questions, mostly pertaining to drug use and any sexual deviance and/or homicidal tendencies.

A couple years ago, our neighbors were total bitches. They wouldn't even let us step into their site when we were pitching our stuff, even though we wouldn't be placing anything in their site when done.

Last year, I caravan-ed it up with some boardies. Best decision ever. And I didn't get raped.

Make friends with your neighbors as soon as you park. Those first few seconds may mean the difference between rape & no rape.

I've only gone to two Coachellas, and both times my friends had arranged a large meetup with people from the boards. It's a lot of fun that way, you essentially have a ton of space to wander around in, you meet a lot of cool people that you keep in touch with for the next Coachellas, more people to talk to. We discovered some good bands through those strangers who became our friends. I wonder what camping in a small group with one car/space is like... I wouldn't know to compare, but I liked meeting up with people.

I've always gone and camped either by myself or with a small group (4 people max) and have had nothing but awesome neighbors. Then again I always offer then some beer and offered to help them set up to set out a good vibe. I've still kept in touch with all of them and have met up with at later Coachella's. If you do go with the random neighbor just bring a few extra brews to share and basically don't be a dick to them.
