sub focus will be a live set, as he has been doing for the past year and a half. his set at EDC crushed it. dont be foolish and miss this because you're "over it" or whatever. I mean, unless you're a fan of the black keys or whatever.

I bet he will throw down some dnb he HAS to! I am not missing his set either way, saw part of Black Keys last year I won't miss subfocus for them.

Of course he will play hold on, it's his most recognizable song but hopefully he plays it last hahaha

he mixes it up. Some dnb, some derpstep, some houselectro. but unlike someone like madeon who just uses the clip launch function, sub focus does some dynamic mixing and cool tricks live. he has a motion sensor that modulates an LFO on one of his bass synths. it's pretty cool to see someone actually wobble the bass with their hand. i forgot what exactly he uses but you can google it if you wanna learn more.

The kind of DnB he'll throw down is like Rock It and the super cheesy stuff, like at EDC.

Quoted from an article I found when googling

Interview with Sub Focus

Hello Sub Focus. What has life been like since you released your debut album?
‘Things have gone into overdrive! I’ve been touring a lot and helping with productions for other artists, like Example’s latest single, ‘Kickstarts’. I’ve also been working on a live show with an audiovisual element, a bit like Daft Punk and Deadmau5. I wanted to do it on a computer rather than get a band to play so I’ve been using a motion sensor, which is linked up to different synthesisers. I can just move my hands in the air to control the show. I don’t know if you remember Jean-Michel Jarre, a [French] composer, but he used to have a laser harp, which he controlled with his hands, and I’m quite keen to explore performing like that in a futuristic way.’

Not a bad tune, but nowhere near Sub Focus' tracks from the last album. Sounds a lot like the dnb that has been coming out of hospital records lately which is basically just the SHM-esque trancey/big room house sounds sped up and put over an amen break. If he does a live set (which I'm pretty sure he is) he just plays his own tracks. He isn't one of my favorite producers but the guy has about a good half dozen tracks I think are great. I actually like that new single of his too more than the majority of his older stuff. Anyone know if he plays "Scarecrow" or "X-ray" during his live set. I think it was Andy C's essential mix from 05' and i must have listened to those two tracks about 30 times on the drive up to San Fransisco from HB. The sounds that this guy creates are still unreal to me.

High Contrast played this one every night I saw on this tour.
maybe it was the weather, but i didn't realize he'd played it until after his set was over. i even sang along with the words and knew where the drops were and somehow didn't register "oh fuck this is the new sub focus track i love".

Oh my god, that fucking MC is going to ruin the set. That is inexcusable - this turned from one of my most anticipated acts to something I am really apprehensive about. How could anyone think that was a good idea? Just a shameful, shameful way to ruin perfectly good music.

If you go to enough dnb shows you eventually realize that they're an integral part. If a producer/DJ came out with no MC I would be more disappointed. MC ID is fuckin dope and does a great job pumping up the crowd. I'm guessing you weren't around during the first wave of dnb in the 90s or you wouldn't be saying these things.

Correct, I am a relatively recent convert to DnB. Maybe I would feel differently in the context of being a part of the scene, but I doubt it. Years ago, when I went to rap concerts frequently, I was always turned off by the MC-ing that broke up my favorite songs. I don't want to hear you saying "Yeah, put your hands up, yeah" for thirty seconds straight - I want to hear you spit the verses that I know and love.

Likewise with this show - I'm still gonna go, but I have a feeling the MC is going to bring down my enjoyment factor.

Yes thank you I read that. I'm asking because live D&B usually means keyboard/synth and drums (Chase and Status last year). Now a days when a DJ puts live next to their name it just means some new fancy light setup and only their own material. I am excited either way, but would definitely prefer a true "live"show

He's not playing Skrillex you troll. He plays only his own production when he plays live.

I'm pretty sure he was supposed to be live this past year at Electric Zoo and he played a skrillex song or two. I hope he doesn't as it was dissapointing to watch him waste set time with that garbage. But if he does, don't say I didn't warn you.

LIVE refers to do doing live reconstructions of original material, as opposed to using turntable/CDJ-style tools or software. he's using an apc40, novation launchpad, and some other stuff as well.

I saw SBTRKT recently. Great show don't get me wrong... but totally worth missing for Sub Focus. The energy for SBTRKT is nowhere near the energy of a Sub Focus show. That said, I'm hoping for no conflict.

Oh and I missed Beardyman. I think he was on at the same time as Magnetic Man and I just couldn't miss them, even if Sgt Pokes made everyone sit down. They've since learned their lesson. Their set at Beyond was much tighter.

The set had a lot of potential, couple of things went wrong though
1.) The MC was fucking annoying as shit. I am not usually the guy thats always complaining about MC's (i think they can add a lot too), but that guy did NOTHING for Subfocus's set
2.) Tech difficulties. That shit was unfortunate, but not his fault
3.) The show just needed more people. I am not complaining because at least he got a night set (lulz), but its unfortunate when you know the show has so much more potential if a little more people came

That being said, it was still cool. Doesnt hold a candle to his EDC set, but I still had a great time. His light rig was sooo cool too. Better than Amon Tobins, gimmick. That guy can lick my nuts

sub focus was great despite that audio problem he had (also lol@his hair). the crowd at first was very tiny got a little bigger as the set went on. i was really bummed to see how many people there were familiar almost exclusively with his more dubstep-oriented material. i think i was the only person getting down to out the blue when he dropped it early on. his stage show looks really stupid...until it turns on. actually really amazing to watch and went great with the music.

damn, he ended up actually resetting his computer after a couple min of it really sucking which took ~3.5 minutes and then he absolutely crushed

i felt so bad when i heard the first skip and saw him say "FUCK!" which was followed by several more expletives, several more skips, and several more conversations with a tech guy before finally deciding to pull the plug and start over..thank god b/c we were about to leave, but as soon as the computer was back up it was glitch-free and imo even better and with more energy than the start of the set
