Needs more than 1 artist for saving. And even if it did need just 1, Soulwax/2manydj's is not that artist.

Wonderbot
01-13-2012, 02:43 PM
Soulwax would obliterate every single artist playing at the Sahara this year without even breaking a sweat. And they play real instruments. And rock harder than Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77. So, so, so much harder.

Here's some ideas:
Kraftwerk (3D)
SMD (live)
Cerrone
The Juan MacLean
Azari & III
The 2 Bears
Digitalism
Soulwax

and, of course,
Daft Punk
Chemical Brothers

I guess it just hurts because I read the article that Daft Punk were offered a headlining spot in 2011 and turned it down because they weren't ready. This was confirmed by them later. So I just thought that meant that they would be a lock for 2012. And I'm not one of those 'daft punk for sure this year' people. It just seemed like it was going to happen.

Very let down by that. then it feels like they are kicking me while I'm down with everyone else that is going.. Might as well late add Deadmau5 for the hell of it.

Backin this... Seen noisia 3 times each progressively with one more member and the sets are much more well mixed and played. The only exception is my first time at beyond 09, only because they played a majority's worth of Split the Atom. The Sahara is lacking this year compared to last year, but I am content with Noisia, Amon Tobin, and DJ SHadow, along with Modeselektor. That keeps me content enough..

Guedita - they played in 2009 I believe, and granted they haven't gone on tour in AGES, they will do shows if promoters pay/accommodate them, and there have been rumors that a new album is on the horizon.

Dorkfish- they will be on live feed and have really cool visuals on stage, I think it would be insane to see them live.

Sahara is a lost cause. Spitting in the wind here. I have hope for a small dome/stage where smaller, but noteworthy, house/techno/bass acts will get a crack. Someone mentioned Bob Mould musing about curating a small stage this year. Nothing yet on that front but his tour dates have piqued my interest. This info, in conjunction w/ the Bassnectar and The Juan Maclean seeming self-confirmations convince me that some surprises may be in store.

Guess we'll know soon enough.

The era relevance argument is willful ignorance in the context of Coachella. A festival that's already hitched its wagon to the 90s in full force (see: Dre & Snoop, Mazzy Star, At the Drive In, Refused, Pulp, etc. etc.)

All of those acts, especially their live shows, are crazy expensive. For half the price you could get 6 excellent djs that would definitely save face.

**Has anyone counted Sahara acts to see of there's any room for additions? (even though adds are generally a longshot anyway)

***Compared to last year there looks to be space for a few more djs.

SoulDischarge
01-16-2012, 04:08 PM
And are the same 15 or so late 90's/early 00's big beat type acts really the best we can hope for? Sure, a few of them have aged fairly well and bring really fantastic live shows to the table (and some are just as cheesy as SHM, just in a different way), but it's the same requests over and over again, and a good number of them have played major fests in the past 5 years. I'm not saying we have the fill up the lineup with classic pioneering DJs or anything (even thoug a lot of those DJs are really well respected not just for what they did 15-20 years ago, but because they've been doing it so long they've fucking mastered the art form and blow a bunch of the younger acts out of the water with a good mix of new and old), but we could at least diversify and satisfy a little bit of everyone's tastes. The scene is thriving once you scratch under the surface. We don't have to bring out the dinosaurs to have a good time.

If I put as much energy into any aspect of my personal life as I did griping about electronic music online, I'd be one well put together young man.

I know this has already been beat to death but I seriously can not get over what they did with the EDM this year. This has to be the laziest, bullshit EDM lineup Ive ever seen for a show this big. Guetta costs what like a billion dollars now? Think of the 12 other acts we could have in there just by removing him. I mean I understand you have to sell tickets but at least give us some variety. I can count the sahara artists im really looking forward to on one hand. Thats not right for a 3 day festival. ITS NOT RIGHT DAMN IT

travelfan
01-16-2012, 04:37 PM
There is not a chance I see Guetta, and I think he is the worst thing on the poster quality wise, but I'm not terribly upset or surprised he's there. He is a big deal for a lot of people, he's there to sell tickets, and I'm sure he's against Radiohead anyway. The two that seem the most superfluous and lazy are Afrojack and Sebastian Ingrosso. Afrojack played just last year, Ingrosso is already playing on Friday anyway, think how much better the Sahara would look if those two were simply replaced with even some of the more obtainable acts mentioned in this thread. Digweed, Hawtin, 2ManyDJs/Soulwax, Digitalism...it'd still be one Orbital level act away from making the Sahara faithful jizz, but I think the switching out of those two acts would eliminate a lot of the controversy.

Agreed, one of the biggest reasons I go to Coachella is to see unique acts that I would normally never see anywhere else. The lineup this year looks like it was copied and pasted from an Insomniac event from the past couple years.

How long have they had SHM and Guetta billed? There was no reason for them to spend millions on acts like this after nearly selling out the first weekend during presale.
