View Full Version : The Mojave is the new Sahara

Seriously, talk about grouping all the best dance acts in one tent this year. It saddens me that the Sahara has largely become a hotspot for the assholes and E-tards of the festival (the bad vibes are overwhelming in there), but the Mojave was on fire all week. Between Leftfield, The Presets, Robyn, Scissor Sisters and Cut Copy, I don't think I ever left that tent non-sweaty and tired.

I guess the generic electro DJs need a place to congregate but next year, let's give the Sahara sound system and lighting rig to its neighboring tent.

I can't believe they let those dipshit swedish house mafia fucks close the sahara saturday and sunday night... FUCKING EW. Trentmoeller > Ratatat > Leftfield > Presets was fucking AWESOME

04-19-2011, 01:27 PM
The Mojave was the place to be in 2011.

04-19-2011, 01:31 PM
Trentemoller. I agree!

i actually said to my gf on saturday: "jesus its like the year the sahara died, all the best electronic acts are either mojave or the dome".

maybe next year they can cordon-off the sahara and let the candykids and the e-tards fuck and needle stab each other to death all weekend.

Almost all of the best acts of the weekend for me were in the Mojave...Trentemoller, Scissor Sisters, Cut Copy, Robyn, The Presets...SO MUCH DANCING

Yeah this year (and last year for that matter) was definitely MohaveChella for me and my boyfriend!

I think I did 5 or 6 straight sets in the Mojave on Friday, and was there about half the time on Saturday. I was flying home on Sunday, so can't really comment on the Mojave's Sunday. But yeah...most time I've ever spent in one place at any of my 5 Coachellas.

04-19-2011, 02:40 PM
Every time I went into the Sahara I came out disappointed and disgusted with the direction house/EDM is taking.

04-19-2011, 02:41 PM
Yes the Mojave was definitely on fire. Leftfield into The Presets was incredible.

04-19-2011, 03:04 PM
Don't forget Two Door Cinema Club rocked the Mojave

04-19-2011, 04:06 PM
Trentmoller into Ratatat was the shit.

LEFTFIELD > PRESETS. really all that needs to be said.

04-19-2011, 04:19 PM
Mojave and Outdoor were my top stages this year in terms of incredible sets.

Mojave = good dance music without all the bros and candy kids

04-19-2011, 09:15 PM
Its sad that the sahara is full of these people now

04-19-2011, 09:16 PM
even worse

04-19-2011, 09:21 PM
That's at least one of the same guys in both pictures...

04-19-2011, 09:22 PM
That's also how the camp grounds looked this year.

Health destroyed the Mojave too. Damn.

And Foals right before them. And don't forget Black Joe, Drums, Pains, and even MEN was fun for a couple of songs. You could do worse than a one-stage festival with just Mojave acts this year.

dear god thats awful.

I agree with these posts!

It didn't take long to figure out that all of the live electronic music (with one exception) was outside of the Sahara (Outdoor Stage or Mojave). I think I went into the Sahara for two acts (Shpongle and Green Velvet)...it was so nice to have the live electronic music at other locations (Empire of the Sun and Chromeo at the outdoor stage was very cool)...but, I would have LOVED to hear LeftField's Theremin on the Sahara's sound system...would have been very cool.

I also concur with aforementioned posts.

Mojave has always been good to me, but this year was frickin ridiculous. Basically all my favorites and all the most intense sets I saw were in there. Cut Copy, Presets, 2DCC, Robyn, Gayngs, YACHT, Foals, Scissor Sisters, Twin Shadow, MEN, Ratatat... oh my god. so many. Basically the only other things that felt like they had a similar vibe to me that weren't in there were Yelle (Gobi) and the Twelves (Sahara).

04-19-2011, 10:28 PM
Health destroyed the Mojave too. Damn.

I'm pretty sure I lost my mind when they started playing We Are Water

The only times I went into the Sahara this year was at the beginning of days to get out of the sun. Oh, and for 20 ungodly minutes during Magnetic Man because I misjudged the time and thought Sasha was coming on sooner. But when I was in there Sunday, I noticed that the grass looked fucking disgusting, especially in comparison to how it looked everywhere else. Seriously, what the hell were those idiots doing in there? That used to be where I spent the bulk of my Coachellas in the past, this year there was really nothing compelling my interest.

Mojave was the MVP of the festival as far as I'm concerned. Pound for pound champion of the weekend.

04-19-2011, 10:43 PM
When I went into the Sahara for Sasha i was right in front of the soundboard and I was up to my ankles in rubbish - empty water bottles and cups and God knows what else. My friend commented it was like the trash pile in Idiocracy. I didn't see that much trash in the Mojave.

04-19-2011, 11:37 PM
seriously! all the first timers rolling balls.

The Sahara = EDC

The Sahara = EDC

If this was reddit, I would upvote you. Seriously.

What I think has really happened, is that the age of the festival has totally changed. It always seemed like a little bit of an older crowd. 25 - 30 years of age. But now it seems like the crowd is full of high schoolers and frat boys. 16 - 25 years old.

04-20-2011, 11:12 AM
I went into Sahara to check out Sven Vath, and in the middle of his set everybody started chanting the melody to Barbara Streisand (Duck Sauce was on next). I couldnt fucking believe that shit. The first time Sven has come to the USA and everybody was chanting for duck sauce, made me realize that Sahara isnt cool anymore.

Or when fucking Afrojack sampled the same melody for just a second, and I was trampled by 18 year old girls wearing angel wings and furry boots who were trying to get to the front for that one song.. please what a fucking joke.

I cant believe I used to rave.

04-20-2011, 12:10 PM
Leftfield should have been given the Sahara soundsystem to let rip and start an earthquake of bass, but I'm happy they got dissed because Trentemøller -> Ratatat -> Leftfield -> the Presets in the Mojave was beyond perfect.

04-20-2011, 12:12 PM
and the Presets were so obviously the best way to end the festival that I even saw Kanye dancing in there at one point because HE knew to skip his own show for them.

04-20-2011, 12:22 PM
I only went into the Sahara for Sasha, Sander K, Shpongle, and Sven Vath. Lots of empty space in the crowds during them.

Heres what speaks a bit about the festivals new demographic. Rather empty tent during Sander K, who was awesome:

Compare that to the crowds that shit like Odd Future and all the dubstep DJs pulled. It is a shame, but at least they still book the good dance acts too.
