View Full Version : Best Daytime Acts?

like it was 1989

After Proxy showed us how to properly execute a daytime set in 95+ degree weather, there were several stand out acts in the 1-4 PM time slot this year that set the tone for the rest of the day's revelry. My personal favorites:

- The Twelves: hats off to them for getting the entire Sahara groovin' at 1:30 PM. this set was MUCH more enjoyable than their Hard set, probably the hardest I danced all weekend aside from Duck Sauce.

- Two Door Cinema Club: amazing energy from both the band and the crowd. I was amazed to see the Mojave jam packed and singing along during the whole set.

- Green Velvet: holy shit. this was my first time seeing him and it completely blew me away, Flash sounded incredible in the tent.

- Jack Beats: dancey wobbly madness. they really are pioneers of the wobble sound without sounding cheesy or played out. I ran into Niall later during the Chase and Status set, super nice guy.

A-Trak. He was later in the day, but before sunset. I went in knowing how much he could could kill it after seeing him at hhm, but he exceeded that set by a mile.

Riva Starr. Literally no one was there, I kinda felt bad for him. He threw down a super groovy house set that got my legs moving even after I told myself I'd save my energy for later.

Menomena made the heat at the outdoor theatre on Sunday bearable. They were great.

Foals were incredible and probably the biggest surprise of the weekend considering their placement on the poster. I enjoy their albums and was looking forward to them, even to the point of only staying at Tallest Man on Earth for 20 minutes, and I was really blown away by them (along with everyone else in the Mojave).

!!! got the festival started off for me and I thought it was insane how much energy the lead singer had considering the heat. This was my 3rd time seeing them but they're still so much fun and really know how to get the crowd amped up.

B.B.F. and Twin Shadow were among the best sets I saw this weekend and were totally worth the early start!

For me Health was the best day act of the weekend. What stage presence! Tame Impala was also great, their sound really went over well at the Outdoor Theater. Lil B was amazingly fun at Pure Filth too. And of course, DFA1979.

brandt brauer frick! nothing like acoustic techno to start off the weekend

acoustic? they didn't have the ensemble. it was dude on keys, another dude running a sampler, then a guy playing a tiny e-drum set. disappoint.

edit: it did have an acoustic cymbal.
