View Full Version : HELP - Which album ???

03-02-2007, 03:57 AM
there are quite a few acts in the line up i dont know that well and want to buy a few albums but cant afford to buy a couple of everyone so it would be great if people who know the bands best could recommend albums for the various bands (keeping in mind they are likely to play more recent stuff than old stuff).

I don't know what to tell you to buy, but don't you have access to downloading music? it's best to go that route, if you ask me.

Fuck it! Steal it! You're going to the show, that's what counts!

And before any one get's up me about ruining the record industry let me first say you and the record 'industry' can start sucking!...

Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

that's one of the most pretentious album titles I've seen in a while.

A good place to start might be the threads "Lets hear some Coachella music" and the "MP3/Mix Depository" in this forum. Also Coachella radio will apparently be up on the main site soon, and there's also MySpace where you can go check out the various acts and hear for yourself (link to listing of myspace profiles here (http://ultra8201.blogspot.com/2007/01/as-useful-as-i-can-be.html)). I would recommend that you do one of the above to get a sense for which bands you like, as opposed to just buying based on suggestions of people who don't know very much about your personal taste in music.

That said, if you want recommendations, I would recommend:

Jesus and Mary Chain - 21 Singles
Jarvis Cocker - Jarvis
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped
Silversun Pickups - Carnavas

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
The Black Keys - Magic Potion
The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Blonde Redhead - Misery is a Butterfly
Peter Bjorn and John - Writer's Block

Air - Pocket Symphony
Tapes 'n Tapes - The Loon
Grizzly Bear - Yellow House

Or at least, that's what I like. But your musical tastes could be totally different.
