View Full Version : Music inventory software

Does anyone have a large enough music collection that they feel the need to catalogue it for insurance purposes?

I am looking for some software that will allow me to catalogue our CD/Vinyl collection. I also want to be able to access it from my cell phone when I am at Amoeba or wherever buying CD's or Vinyl, so that I don't buy something I already have. :rolleyes

I am thinking I might be able to create the database in SQL myself and just write a front end using PHP/Javascript, but if there is some really good software I could buy that would save me some time.

I found this one: http://www.collectorz.com/music/ -- anyone familiar with this software?

I'd rather just write my own as well.

Put it all in a wish list on Amazon.

^ Yeah simple but good idea, no?

Put it all in a wish list on Amazon.

Creative idea.

But, I am pretty sure that Amazon does not carry every CD that I own.

They'll have probably 99% of them, especially as they allow resellers on there.

This is pretty sweet, and exactly what you need if you have a mac.

That looks awesome! But, I do not own a Mac. :( I am also iTunes-free.

I just have a text file inventory of mine (that I've been keeping up since 1996), that I put up on my website. It's helped me avoid buying duplicates and I use it for insurance documentation. I looked for a long time for software to do what I wanted but didn't find anything very good, and in the end decided to use the simplest approach so that it would work everywhere / any type of terminal that has web access.
