Just looked up travel information, I can get a Greyhound bus from Phoenix to Salmo, BC and be roughly 10km from the festival grounds. I will definitely be at this next August.

I haven't decided if I should be conventional and fly to Canada, or follow my true calling and bus/drive/hitch hike.

I would love to visit Ragey, see Vancouver, and carpool to the festival which Reid says is about 6 hrs from his home. After Shambhala I would head to SF, hangout with the crew there, and then drive into Burning Man as scheduled. The only problem is I will have a lot of stuff to bring into Burning Man, so I would have to arrange somehow for all of this to be transported within our group.

Honestly Shambhala is my calling, and definitely something I need to experience. I want to see Canada, and rave there. I hope we can get a nice group of people to commit for 2010, because I'm sure it will change my life just as much as ********* did.

Let's do this.

Oh yea, for people coming into Canada a day or 2 early and need a place to bunk.... my place will probably be available for people to couch surf and tent in the back yard and such.... Really far ahead but yea!!

Kelowna would be the best airport to fly into if you are headed straight for Shambhala, possibly even Spokane.... but Greyhound bus is obviously cheapest route... For Canada related things, I can help, but this will be my first year for Shambhala!

No glass is very important.... They don't like what alcohol does to folks much, they're fine with everything else though, I've heard story's of pills in glass and the people there just put them in plastic bags.... and about pot plants being planted around there....

Does anyone plan on renting a car while they're up here?? I'm thinking of going the bus route...

The no alcohol rule makes for a better fest overall in my opinion. You can sneak booze if you're resourceful however they are very thorough in terms of the search. Last year I noticed booze everywhere, and once you are in the fest no one really cares. Although I was in the artist campsite which doesn't have the alcohol restriction so I'm slightly biased.

In terms of a rave, you wont beat the vibe at Shambhala anywhere. Pretty unreal. I recommend catching the beach sunrise set. Last year it was Benga. Years before it's been Bassnectar, who if you've been to Shamhala more then once, you will likely be a bit tired of.

It's a marathon though. I felt physically sick the two nights I actually made it until 10am. And my brain took at least a week to recover from chemical abuse.

Airports would probably be YLW, Kelowna, I live an hour from this airport then it is about 5 hours to get to Shambhala from Kelowna, or maybe Calgary, but I say map quest it.....
I've found some cheap flights from LAX to Kelowna with West jet...

Sleepingrock

Well music starts at 2 stages on Thursday at noon and it doesn't stop until Monday.... So I'd say travel on Wednesday, and get in on Wednesday or drive there on Thursday depending where you're coming from... I can have a few folks crash/camp but that will be further along.... and on Thursday it is 25$ for early admission and Friday is all ticket holders can get in with no extra fee, but I think Thursday would be wicked too....

How far are you from the venue and how many people are you willing to have camp out at your place? I'm figuring out a tentative trip now and saw on the Shambhala site that last year they offer admission on Wednesday for $50 extra. Is anyone interested in this? Right now I'm thinking fly up Wednesday night to Spokane - crash in a hotel or something then head up Thursday. Are there any other ideas that seem better floating around?

Sleepingrock
02-07-2010, 10:31 AM
I'm about 5 hours from Shambhala, and Spokane is about 3 hours from, Map quest says so atleast... So I guess the two best airport choices would be YLW ( kelowna ) or GEG ( spokane )..... And I'd have to ask my parents for an exact number but they said "a few", so we'll see when the date gets a bit closer...

unknown
02-07-2010, 12:28 PM
Hmm I think I'm going to go the Spokane/rental car route. The flight prices are reasonable as are the rental car prices. I'm thinking get a group of 3 or 4 others in to split the rental car cost and hit up stores for all our needs Wednesday night then head into Salmo on Thursday.

Devin - how much is the train? roundtrip airfare to Spokane from SD or LA is right around $300.

So, when are you guys stopping in Vancouver to say hi?

We are highly considering it :) I would love to make the most of our Canadian Tour Extravaganza if we can figure out transportation logistics. Reid said you are about 6 hours from his place?

I want to have you show us around!

OK, I might consider flying out with all of you guys if our group exceeds the capacity of one car. If two cars are being rented, I will commit to pitching on one of them. Put me down tentatively on the carpool from Spokane idea. We'll see how much I get paid this month, and if it's feasible, I'll just commit now and get it out of the way.

Love this thread. :pulse

Even more of a reason to buy it. I don't DL films cos I don't want to get sued. I don't DL them cos I'm a filmmaker and respect other filmmakers buy not stealing their product. When I finish my next film I will hurt anyone I catch who DL my film.

Ah fair enough..... It is tough to get a movie out to all you folks though, if one person watching this once made them decide to come to Shambhala and be a positive influence, or if by showing someone this link, I think that would make the world better, though I am all for art being bought instead of for free everywhere, if you enjoy something then you should buy it if you have the means to

I agree. Especially considering in this case, there are no sources for the movie.

Sleepingrock
04-24-2010, 03:18 PM
They play in the Rock Pit, they've always had them I think as long as that stage has been around

From the Rock pit write up

A diverse and highly energetic stage, the notorious Rock Pit is home to a wide variety of local and international artists ranging from hip hop, ska, punk, rock, electronic, and everything else in between. Once a gravel pit, this raw and rustic dwelling space has since emerged into a full on ampitheatre made to house intoxicating music and contagious crowds of the most wild and raging persuasion. Delivering a soundscape of an eclectic and mind-blowing variety, the Rock Pit is guaranteed to induce immediate electrifying bliss from the emergence of dusk right up until the break of dawn.

Nah. Not really my scene. It looks like a fun festival and it is a cool idea having tree-top stages... but its too fucking expensive for what is being offered. For me, at least, anyways. If I got offered free tickets I would probably try to go. If my band was asked to play I would definiately go.

completely forgot this was this last weekend until I saw the video below on my news feed. sigh. reviews? I'd love to plan for 2011 but will have to see how that pans out. (Coachella, LiB, ********* are priority with Shambhala and Ultra being strongly considered) TOO MUCH GOOD SHIT.

A lot of my friends went. Nobody really mentioned anything about the music, which for my real life friends is normal, but they did mention the atmosphere. Apparently this year there were way more drunk people than normal and it ruined the vibe for a lot of people. I know a lot of first timers that aren't going to go again.

Rage is right though, it's very expensive for what you get.

This isn't new to Shambhala. I know people who have been going 5+ years and only see 1 or 2 acts over the course of the whole weekend. The rest of the time is spent stumbling around treetops, dancing for 10 minutes then moving to the next tree.

The only thing that has changed, from what I have heard, is that bros have discovered Shambhala. Brohemians, if you will.
