Also, if I were The Prodigy, I would easily choose France over Coachella. I have seen them in France and have experienced how much the French love The Prodigy. Play to 10,000+ multiple nights in a country that loves you... or play to 6,000-7,000 in a tent in the desert in a country who doesn't give you the proper respect you deserve. Hmmmm...

they were respected almost everywhere until fat of the land. you can't blame people from this country for not wanting to pay $50+ to see a band touring a bad album.

That could pretty much be said about any big band that has a cult following.

Invaders Must Die was a very good album. AONO was pretty mediocre, but it translated better live.

Weird, I remember the majority of people bashing it in the prodigy thread. The only song I like off of it is "Warriors dance." It doesn't matter though. People have different tastes. To each his own. I still want to see them live.

I don't even know who the fuck David Guetta is. Lady Gaga being billed on the 2nd line would be stupid but considering MIA's placement last year, not unreasonable, hence why I'm not picking a bone with that. Even if David Guetta is more popular than Orbital right now, is he so popular that he'd be billed on the 2nd line? Would he be the Sahara headliner over Royskopp? If not, then he doesn't belong on the 2nd line. I realize this is a fake but still, try to show a modicum of sense.

And Chris, if you and Amneeziac are the ones who did the poster, then yeah, I guess I am calling you stupid. I would put Fever Ray as a subheadliner maybe in the Create Your Own Festival contest. If I were doing a fake Coachella poster, though, Fever Ray would be on the 3rd line at the highest.

I don't really even like David Guetta but, he is headlining TAO this year, was one of the headliners of EDC, and is number 3 on the top 100 djs for DJmag. He also produced the song I've Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas which again I am not a fan but that song was number 1 on the billboard charts for 14 weeks. Maybe he wouldn't be second row, I'm not sure, but I would be surprised if he wasn't billed above Royksopp and Orbital.

Her popularity is somewhat baffling, but indisputable. She is also re-releasing her debut album with a bunch of new tracks. I expected her to be on the 09 lineup, and would be somewhat surprised if GV or Paul T pursued her for the 2010 fest. But hey, it's Coachella. Anything can happen.

Wow, Dale, congrats on being representative of every Arizonan.

And if knowing who Lady Gaga is is indicative of being plugged in to regular society, then regular society fucking sucks. (But then that was a foregone conclusion regardless.)

The best thing about Lady Gaga is the cover version of "Pokerface" Cartman sang on "South Park" a few weeks back. When I think of that song, I hear his voice.

Egull: "I've Gotta Feeling" being a huge hit (which, incidentally, I've never even heard) would be an argument for Black Eyed Peas being on the 2nd line, not David Guetta. Mark Ronson produced Lily Allen's and Amy Winehouse's albums back in '07. They were pretty popular albums, weren't they? How high was he on the poster in '08?
Besides that, Goldenvoice is cognizant of the makeup their audience. In what part of the world is Tool bigger than Madonna? Nowhere, but in 2006, they headlined Coachella, not her. How long have people been clamoring for David Guetta to perform at Coachella? How long have people been clamoring for Orbital and Royskopp? Both acts would be higher on the poster than him.

First of all I was just telling you some of his accomplishments sense you said you had never heard of him. And David Guetta draws a lot of people to festival type events. I could be wrong, but the only reason I said anything is I don't think someone would be "fucking stupid" for thinking its a possibility. David Guetta appeals to more of a mainstream audience then Orbital, which usually would make that person higher on the Coachella poster. But, I agree that based on talent both Royksopp and Orbital should headline over him, I just don't really think they would.

But, I do realize most people think what is said on this board is what actually happens at Coachella so I understand why people think this way.

You're right I'm sure Coachella doesn't give a shit about it. But back to the original reason I brought up the magazine, lots of people voted for David Guetta, and whether it means anything or not, it shows that he is one of the better known djs of this year. I don't think that list has anything to do with talent, I am just saying popularity, and popularity has a lot to do with how high someone is listed on the poster.

That being said Daft Punk is way bigger than Gaga look at the venues she's playing then look at the venues that Daft Punk played on their last tour.

Daft Punk played bigger venues=they are bigger. case closed.

(although if Winehorse/MIA could sub on the weakest main stage day, then Gaga certainly could)

No argument here. But that's exactly my point--she's either a dance tent headliner or a main stage sub. Whereas Daft is now a main stage headliner. Hence Daft is more popular, at least as a live act.

It was shocking how empty the tent was for MANDY. Allowed for tons of dancing space right up front which was cool but goddamn, people really are getting too pigeon holed in their EDm tastes. The crazy beat drops and star wars electro shit are tainting people to the intricacies of skilled mixing and proper beat-matching etc.

And I'm totally seeing Plump DJs on Thurs for free. It's their first time ever playing Seattle and there's no cover. Madness.

This will most likely be with The Dead Weather considering the new tour dates from http://www.thedeadweather.com/news.html...

Sounds awesome! I love the album.

It also had the worst headliner (yes, imo RHCP is worse than The Killers or JJ). Extra points off for them being repeats.

I'd say Hot Chip and The xx should be confirmed. April 16th in Oakland? Count on Coachella.

I'm down. The xx is the first band I've discovered by watching MTV (American MTV) in a long time.

You think RHCP are worse than Jack Johnson and The Killers?

Wow.

At least RHCP had good music at one point in their career. Can't say the same for the former.

So you're saying MSTRKRFT and that shitty cube are better than LCD Soundsystem? I disagree.

Wow, Steve Aoki and The Rapture and MSTRKRFT? If only Uffie and Hot Chip were there to complete the circle of awfulness.

Can't go wrong with LCD, however. Did anyone actually skip Arcade Fire->Blonde Redhead to see Justice? I wonder what it would have been like to see them back when they were still fresh and wasn't this the first live set?

Leeartlee

I certainly didn't. At that point, I would have been, "Who the fuck is Justice?"

11-16-2009, 01:47 PM
Yeah, option-t hadn't dropped yet, IIRC. They did make my list because of "We Are Your Friends" but there's nothing that day that stood a chance against AF->BR.

Monklish
11-16-2009, 01:52 PM
I don't see how AF really factors into the decision. The conflict is Blonde Redhead and Justice, you could have seen Arcade Fire before either. But yeah, there are at least a dozen or so people I've seen mention having seen Justice in 07 on here. I think Passive is one of them.

M.A.N.D.Y., Plump DJs, and Groove Armada easily trump the only tolerable parts of Saturday 2007

it does make an appearance at next year’s Coachella Music Festival, which runs from April 17-19 in Indio, CA, seem very likely.

Top notch "reporting" at CoS once again :rotfl

Chemical Brothers played the first three Coachellas straight. It happens. Certain things in life are just likely to be givens: if Arcade Fire has a new album out, they will play Coachella. If Hot Chip has a new album out, they will play Coachella.

It's not always Coachella's choice, guys. That's another thing y'all tend to forget.

These acts are examples of bands that are likely to always have a loving relationship with Coach because Coach helped to break them. Same thing with Daft. I guarantee you every time Daft comes out with a new tour they're gonna play Coachella. Probably Gogol fucking Bordello too, those cocksuckers.

weird how now nobody was at Justice in '07 & everyone was over them, but the most hyped act going into Coachella '08 was everyone begging for Justice to be brought back..

this list of threads about Justice and the number of posts is just ridiculous..
http://coachella.com/forum/search.php?searchid=5709999

the thread that started right after their 07 performance that stretched until just before the 08 lineup announcement went 133 pages, full of people jizzing themselves over Justice, just sayin..

I don't think anybody was actually "over" justice in 2007, seeing as they'd just recently come out and had never played a show before. What you might have encountered there was sarcasm, you dizzy shit.

Jupiter ring ROLF ...... dude how can u complain about hot chip their fucking bad ass and we don't get hot chip twice a year like aka Atmosphere who does tour a shitload in the states. So they should be accept as third timer. I'm really liking the lineup coming out this next year. Just hoping for a confirm for Beastie boys .Maybe not The Who But like some crazy headlining reunion Talking heads. But I'll be just happy as long as I get to go to another coachella so whoever is there i'll be there.

I saw a Justice DJ set at Pukkelpop in 2006. It was about 40000000 times better than any "live" set they've ever done.
