EDIT: Even though I don't much care for Neon Indian, someone said that they are too cheesy, which IMO is sorta the point of their music, I think it's supposed to be super nostalgic music maybe even to a fault, its that sort of analog sounding tripped out 80's pop, and while I dont care for it I respect it. Thats the way I see it anyways.

Memory Tapes are for sure the best to come out of this genre so far. That album is incredible.

Im a huge Walkmen fan, and they sounded great at Treasure Island, but I gotta say I was let down to see that they are not that cool looking (yes I know how stupid that is)

Their music is such smokey, boozy chamber pop that I expected some Scott Walker-by-way-of-Tom Waits lookin' guys and they are not that.

It's a pretty good festival, if you know the tricks. Beautiful setting. I'll be going all three days this year - unfortunately their message board sucks so we get very little in the way of rumors.

Hamilton Leithauser from Walkmen is virtually unintelligible between songs, it's kind of hilarious. His banter is awkward.

But wasn't that St. Vincent set fucking transcendent? Oh man.

Neon Indian definitely has a Giorgio Moroder sound-tracky feel to his music, which isn't necessarily a bad thing in my book. Take a listen to the "Midnight Express" soundtrack especially. Good stuff, IMHO.

Main trick is to get a spot on the terraced part of the lawn. You can put a blanket down, and your bags (minus valuables), and nobody will take your shit, which is kind of remarkable. Then you can go to the other stages, see the bands you want to see. Go down in front to the main stage. And still have a spot to eat, drink and watch bands on the main stage you don't care enough to be right up there for. Makes it easier, especially because the campground is quite a hike.

I guess that's all I mean by tricks.

RE The National: They have one tour date that was just announced. They are playing the Big Ears festival in TN this March I think. They should be about finished with the studio by now. A tour has to be coming soon. Starting off with Coachella would be nice and maybe a graduation to the main stage around 6pm.

I "discovered" Toro y Moi (Chazwick Bundick) and some of his other projects when I was just getting into myspace. I started checking out a lot of music that way a few years ago. Nice to see him making waves. I am also excited to see Low vs. Diamond (who were then called Colored Shadows) doing the same. Listening to an early song, "miss ya", by Toro y Moi. I will definitely check these two if they somehow get to Coachella.

I had to bring it up. It's been too consistent to not pay any notice to. Which is why if the Beasties play, they would get top billing over Gorillaz because it would make no sense why they would have headlined already but now get bumped down to a sub. They're the only act that could repeat (unless you want to toss in the Pixies). The Pixies would be headliners again.

2006 - Tool
2007 - All repeats
2009 - The Cure

None of those rumored acts have been debunked by management or the members. The Stones came right out and said they weren't planning on a tour. It would've been easier had any of the others done the same. Like the Deftones, for example, noted that they don't know what a Coachella Fest even is.

its tough to say.. the majority of the people run from behind the camera so who knows. What would you call the guy who started the initial party? What about the first few guys that run over...? they seem like pioneers to me, not sheep.

out atleast 2x more than you. Guaranteed. ;) I'm just not going to drive to 5 hours for a show on a weekday and then drive 5 more back. Not with work at 7am.

Pixies have tour dates in 2010 but I haven't seen them mentioned once. Am I not paying attention?

I know the arguments against them being booked (haven't released any new material since they last played and aren't likely to, and have oversaturated the world by touring constantly) but it still seems like it could happen.

Black Francis has an album coming out at the beginning of April, and there have been hints that he will be supporting that. So, while I don't really think it's likely that he will play Coachella, I think it's more likely than the Pixies.

What really irks me are the people who are sitting down and then decide to run over and be part of the "fun" after the dance party had already been going on for about 2 minutes or so. Like why even bother? You were too good to get up and go join in when it was just him, but now that there is a big crowd and everyone is doing it, you wanna be part of it too.....God that video is annoying.

You are a hopeless curmudgeon.

Okay, Joanna Newsom is a more than definite possibility now that Drag City just put this out saying she will have her new album out this year:

Didn't know about France and Italy. All I know is that Black Francis is releasing an album called Nonstoperotik on April 5th and that he plans to support it around that time. As it stands now, he has the entire month of April and most of May to do that.

in reference to what he was saying, more than what you said (i don't feel like looking for it), many people just need others to confirm what is acceptable and what isn't. nothing wrong with that, not everyone is comfortable doing what they want to do deep down. I tend to think that Coachella helps cure that a little, though.

Reminds me of my first day of social psych. The professor had a powerpoint presentation going and at first it told us to do mundane things like say hello, shake the hand of the person next to us, etc, then it told us to tell the professor "fuck you". This was being secretly filmed, and it revealed almost everyone looking around to make sure everyone else was doing it before they did it, so the "fuck you's" were not done by everyone, and came out in intervals instead of everyone doing it immediately like the other tasks.

It makes it very likely they won't play. You could maybe make an argument for them possibly being at Coachella if they lined up the LA show at a GV venue, but the Echo is not a GV venue.

Last year I was part of the dumbass group of people that were new to the board that didn't know the blackout rule that thought Springsteen was a lock. So I'll be nice - JGuez - there's this rule where bands can't play locally a certain amount of time before and after Coachella. So that's what people mean when they say the Eagles won't and can't play.

And DaFunkyPrecedent - the Spoon/Deerhunter shows have been discussed at length over the past 24 hours. In other appropriate threads.

What if you found out we were given technology instead inventing it ourselves?

OK now you're creeping me out.

imagine if you learned that men and women come from different planets. imagine that we were put here for no other purpose than a science experiment. then imagine if god truly exists and we somehow obtain proof. imagine if everyone sees the white light before the go. imagine if what determines your afterlife is whether or not your instincts lead you to the light, or towards the darkness.

Do you remember the good ol' days when KROQ was actually a really rad station to listen to? I mean, they used to play the coolest cuts, and you didn't hear the same fucking shit over and over and over again like a fucking robot programming device. I mean, the DJs sounded like real people, and like they really cared about the music they played. Didn't they used to get to select their own music for their sets back in the '80s? Ahhhh....I miss the KROQ of yore........

I sure remember. It was an amazing station! 91X was not bad either.

One wonders who the biggest pop artist is now? It might be Lady Gaga, but she's only rolling off a year of being a top act. Jay-Z? He's a big name, sure... but some country bumpkins haven't heard a note of his "big" songs.

My current choice: The Black Eyed Peas. They've got multiple platinum albums, huge tours, and a bunch of Top 10 charting songs that you'd literally have to be DEAD to avoid. Turn on an MLB, NBA, or NFL game... they're there. Turn on a hit movie... they're there. Absolutely unavoidable.

And you know what? They have nothing on their tour calendar after April 11! (Thank God they're playing L.A. at the E.N.D. of March....)

"Pop Star". As in, singular. I don't mean to throw blood in the water in case Monklish and psycobetabuckdown read this thread, but "pop star" would be a weird word to use to describe a group that has multiple people in it.

An obvious reference to Lady Gaga.

That post about a special guest closing the Sahara came right after a post on her said she was confirmed for the Sahara by someone on here.

I think the person either has real insider information or more than likely is just completely wrong.

They might be referring to another pop star, who knows? Who cares?

It's all BS until the line up arrives.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed her SNL set. It wasn't earth-shattering, but it was respectful and showed an interest in both entertaining the crowd and presenting something different and reverential of the surroundings.

Too many hip indie bands go on SNL and simply shuffle their feet while they mouth their "hits" on those sort of shows. I recall falling in love with The White Stripes based on seeing them on one of the late night shows for one song - if you can grab someone in those three minutes, baby, you got something.
