I have to say I really liked Soundgarden. It's been a long time since I've listened to one of their albums but I can't deny they rocked. Them @ Ciachella would be great, but as sub-headliner of course.

As for Coachella, in July it was met with a negative reaction...maybe they need cash? it has been 4 years. Still doubt it though.

Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, Faith No More, Smashing Pumpkins...(am I missing any others?)

Seems to be a pretty 90's alt heavy year for Coachella Rumors, they should throw all this on one day and get it over with for the future (I'd be down to camp the mainstage for it).

Lots of people want to see FNM. This has been exemplified by all the festivals they have headlined across Europe and South America. This reunion tour has also gotten really really great reviews, both by critics and fans.

As for Corgan, the answer is no one.

They won't sound like that. Have you heard Cornell sing lately?

However, I would be open to giving them a shot if they were at Coachella. I am still bummed about missing them on the Down on the Upside tour. And it was pretty cool seeing Cornell join up with Pearl Jam for Hunger Strike.

The one thing to keep in mind: If Pearl Jam have any dates before that New Orleans festival, I would rule Soundgarden out. Actually, the fact that they are playing that festival makes me think it is highly unlikely Soundgarden would reunite for Coachella. Matt Cameron would probably need rehearsal times with both bands.

Well, Big Boi is joining the festival circuit, so its at least a possibility. And Pavement is doing something yet again.

http://pitchfork.com/news/37437-pavement-big-boi-lindstrm-major-lazer-to-play-norways-ya-festival/

Next year's edition of Norway's huge Øya Festival will come to Oslo's Medieval Park August 10-14. And even though that's eight months in the future, the festival's organizers have started naming the acts on the bill. This is going to be a good one, folks.

The first batch of acts goes something like this: reunited indie monarchs Pavement, slippery OutKast rapper Big Boi, spazzy indie revivalists Cymbals Eat Guitars, anthemic punk wailers the Gaslight Anthem, the Diplo/Switch dancehall connection Major Lazer, space-disco duo Lindstrøm & Christabelle, noisecore monsters Converge, indie pop upstarts Surfer Blood, and stylish Scandinavian psychsters Serena Maneesh. There's a whole lot of variety on that bill, and it's tough to imagine having a shitty time at a show like that. Norwegians, consider yourselves lucky.

This has been said ad nauseum, but who gives a fuck about a Smashing Pumpkins reunion? Billy Corgan was everything important about Smashing Pumpkins from day one. Darcy or whatever is not some sort of awesome bass player and it's not like James Iha has such a unique sound or stage presence that it can't be matched or topped by a replacement guitarist. That Facebook mentioned something along the lines of "On their way to Coachella with A Place To Bury Strangers..." The "with" could either be taken as The Big Pink will be coming as well as APTBS or that APTBS are simply joining them on this tour as only The Big Pink make their way to Coachella. If it were both, surely Consequence would've included APTBS, would they not? So this is not exactly a sure thing, done-deal just yet, although it is highly likely still.

Debatable and not necessarily as likely as you think. There has been a lengthy discussion earlier on this thread as to the probability that they won't play because they haven't been offered a headlining spot, and Sasquatch is claiming that they are kicking off their tour at that festival.

This is actually a good point and it's happened in the past. I think it was Yeasayer who was on tour with someone from 2008, and whoever it was ended up playing Coachella but Yeasayer didn't yet still continued touring with them past the festival.

Zoe are a solid spanish-speaking rock band. They'd fit in the same sort of slot that Cafe Tacuba are normally in at Coachella. I'd say their sound is a bit harder rocking and a bit more psychedelic than Cafe Tacuba. Thoroughly decent band.

Thanks for pointing out that example, and yeah, I too remembered this with Gaslight, but seeing as this may be that particular case for this year, it would be disappointing to me for Coachella to end up with the Big Pink and not APTBS. The Big Pink have been dubbed an act on the rise to stardom, and they have some great songs on their debut, but I'd much rather have APTBS if it came down to the two, but now it all depends on whether they're booked or not.

In ideal conditions. But, she's not loud at all. If she could get the kind of crowd reverence that Leonard Cohen had, then it would work, but otherwise you'd probably lose all of the nuance. I guess she could bring an orchestra or (ideally) the Ys Street Band with her. They turn it up some, and played two of the best shows I've ever seen, so there's that.

This. I love her, saw her in 08 at Benaroya hall in Seattle, which is essentially an operahouse. THAT is the sort of venue she's made for. I just can't see how she'd work at Coachella. Ys Street Band helps, but they'd have to really crank it. Orchestra would only work if she was on the main stage, which seems unlikely.

the problem is that you can't make the polo fields quiet for her. it didn't work for spiritualized, leonard cohen, mum, and even beck's acoustic show. they weren't bad, by any means, but if you've seen her before, you would be guaranteed a subpar show.

Disagree. Joanna playing live is never horrible.

No, of course Joanna playing live would not be horrible. She is one of my favorite artists. I just wanted to state that Coachella setting+Joanna=Horrible Match. :2c

I wouldn't mind hearing songs from Down on the Upside, ie Pretty Noose.

{sigh} THIS

and Cornell still had a good voice when i saw his solo set at LA Invasion two years ago..

it's not, but discussion from the page i was quoting was claiming such..

Andrew WK would be awesome but somehow I doubt it.

Andrew WK opening ANY stage would be brilliant, it wouldn't matter which stage, as long as he's opening..

with all the No Doubt talk last year, the fact that they haven't been at least floated as subheadliner is odd..

You Oughta Know!

i would skip almost anything for this..

Blaming Soundgarden for Creed is like blaming New Order for Savage Garden.

I think we all need a lethal dose of W.K.'s "Party Hard" on the Coachella Main Stage. He's such a crazy dude, we might be able to convince him to join us in the camping here for a nice rendition out there. One would only dream of partying late at night with W.K.

so if Muse is confirmed and the Silversun Pickups are touring with Muse throughout their entire tour, why haven't we confirmed the Silversun Pickups?

clumsy342
12-21-2009, 12:44 AM
well.. Silversun Pickups are touring with Muse up until mid-April.
I seriously, seriously doubt we'll see Silversun Pickups for a third time at Coachella.
Especially after already having a prime spot this year.

(by the way.. I can't wait until January. just so I can start saying "last year".)

paulthomasanderson
12-21-2009, 12:45 AM
There's a difference. Pickups played last year and there's no indications that they'll do it this year. Just because they're touring with Muse doesn't mean they'll be booked. Gang Gang Dance isn't happening this year. Hot Chip probably is. Patience.

you know, Hot Chip really shouldn't. They probably will... but shouldn't. Their music/performance doesn't warrant a third time at Coachella in such short order.

2010 is all about LCD Soundsystem.

When Joanna played Latitude last year, she played at 12pm on the main stage (before any of the other tents kicked off) and it was blissful. This was mainly done as she already had a show in London that night, but it worked so well that they did the same with Thom Yorke this year.

totally agree. and, i don't know where LCD's bad live rep comes from...they fucking rock. and watching that drummer get down in his silly outfit is entertaining enough onto itself.

Technically, nobody has ever been confirmed, because the only confirmation is that I exist (because I think), and Coachella may just be the result of stimulations via chemicals, electrodes, and alien masters. None of you are real. You are all wasting time in your search of non-real bands.

It would be stupid speculation if people treat that as fodder for 2010 Coachella appearance. If they're just now going into the studio, I'd say, if anything, 2011 would be more likely.

In reference to RH, I agree. Studio time in January does not equal tour in the spring or summer....or anytime next year.

Oh yeah, that, it does nothing, this is more a foreshadowing of 2011 btw. Thom can still play, depends on what their recording schedule is like.

Band Management has stated, no touring whatsoever in 2010 for Radiohead.

Faith No More at Coachella is happening. Orbital I can't speak on, but I know FNM are playing. I find this Soundgarden business to be quite odd... perhaps FNM and Soundgarden will co-headline a day? I dunno. I just don't believe Soundgarden are playing.

Why not Chris Cornell doing his new solo album back to back as a headliner?

If Soundgarden does play, Cornell needs to drop the look he has and go back to being bad ass. Like this:
