The Art of it all

A Life of Science is anything but a standard band concept. Based on sonic experience and gripping storytelling, their forthcoming debut album, The Apneist, produced by Larry Elyea (Jimmy Eat World, Eyes Set to Kill), will take the listener on an unforgettable journey through the subconscious in a future setting, as told by the man responsible for the apocalypse as he sinks to his death.

A Life of Science is based out of Phoenix, Arizona. James Keenan (Vocals/Bass/Synth) and Zakk Geist (Guitar/Vocals/Programming) have been best friends since the age of 10 and musical collaborators since the age of 14. They enlisted the help of fellow Phoenicians, Scott Passamonte (Guitar/Vocals) and Angel Garcia (Percussion/Vocals) to bring the vision to life.

The band's expansive palette draws from explosive percussion, diverse dueling guitars, dynamic synth, thunderous bass, vocals that range from angelic to aggressive and dazzling programming, all rooted in Indie Rock, Post Punk, Hard Core and Programmer Pop.

The Apneist album will be available on April 28th. The Apneist comic book, DVD, novel, and more will follow in 2009. A Life of Science will bring The Apneist experience on the road in the summer of 2009.

"One of the most challenging and enjoyable records I've done to date. This record is a rollercoaster ride into uncharted territories of sonics and emotion. Buy it."
- Larry Elyea, Producer, re: The Apneist

On April 28th theapneist.com new website will be up! This will give you all kinds of information on the Apneist and who it is.

Purchase their album on Itunes on april 28th and also receive 29 page digital booklet containing lyrics, artwork, and the story of The Apneist.

Im not trying to be a hater, but please explain why we should care about this album. Are they a supergroup of some kind? Or a new band who deserves attention? What kind of music are they? Do they sound like any other bands? Who, from what you gather, are their musical influences? This information would be helpful.

04-27-2009, 04:00 PM
yeah, that first post is pretty much cookie cutter spam. Tell us, don't show us.

04-27-2009, 04:08 PM
well figured if u read about the whole band as a whole and know their story it would give you a reason to listen.

wats reported?

So I actually gave them a chance and listened to them on iTunes. Weak shit. Super cheesy sounds, voice affects, terrible writing. Seriously guys, don't bother unless you want a good laugh.

And seriously, what's with these brand spankin' new bands trying cross promotion tools like comics, videos, ringtone services etc with no following developed yet? Why not spend the time, money and effort on their music and getting word out instead of dumb shit like this? It's so gimmicky and stupid.

04-27-2009, 11:10 PM
Tickle. The album came out at 11pm CALI time. The songs you listened to are very very old. My guess is maybe 2 years. Go back to iTunes and buy a few off the Apneist, all of them are different and sound NOTHING like the ones you listened to.

I've never heard anything like this before, and each song has a story tied to it which I really liked.

04-28-2009, 10:17 AM
No, it was The Apneist I listened to. Same cover and all.

The lead singer I think was at a party earlier this year rolling and gave me the 90 minute infomercial in person. I understood his excitement as he kept saying this was his lifes work and it was finally being released. He talked about the concept a bit which I didn't follow too much. He kept begging for honest opinions and seemed to take the cheesy crtiticism well. Kudos for him getting something put out that he wanted but it just wasn't my taste at all.

I think I told him the kids of today might dig it. The website is horribly designed as well with links that say things like "stuff" as a menu option. Terrible.

The song titles are decent but it sounds like rejected synth pop or an evolution of classic rock with very cheesy metal riffs. For instance on my space I was listening to the song "Carving a Canyon" it sounds like really low rent Linkin Park. The synth sounds are actually decent at times laying a nice bed but as soon as the vocals and guitar start i'm screaming for someone to take me away from whatever this genre is. It doesn't fit. The drums sound like a cheesy drum machine as well.

Overall I don't dig anything except some of the song titles and intro's. Once the music starts in each song I hear lots of SCREAMO. Not good.

04-28-2009, 10:32 AM

You put out a demo? When? and what makes you think i would promote your album in the first place?....

Thanks for the opinion fax. I love your honesty and I know jimmy will too

I meant the voice effects were also cheesy.

04-28-2009, 01:53 PM

That might be why he succeeds some day. Not now with this. If it was me I would take it all very personally and get pissed off but try to hide it while arguing that people just don't understand it.

I hope their next effort is better. He said they spent a few years on this as I recall. Maybe strip down, focus on songwriting and bring in the art in a different way. It's hard to understand all the focus on the comics an stuff and how it relates to the music. Maybe make it a bit more cohesive.

I'm full of opinion.

04-28-2009, 01:57 PM
NICE keep it up. Ill make sure jimmy reads it, he still talks about you and that night lol.

04-28-2009, 01:58 PM
And mark i dont get why you feel you need to READ before listening...They created the story as a side note is all. Makes it a bit more interesting.

Carving a Canyon is fairly unpleasant .
Not trying to be a dick but this bands sound is far from original.
The idea for the album seems ok I just don't care for there sound at all.

Mikey, you owe us your real opinion. Not the one you give your 'best friend' but your honsest feelings on the music, sound and album. Don't sugarcoat.

04-28-2009, 03:47 PM
You put out a demo? When? and what makes you think i would promote your album in the first place?....

i have 6 out

I wouldnt want you too cause I seen how it works for you

04-28-2009, 04:30 PM
you have 6 out and not one person on this board has said a thing about it? At least more then once? Or even the mention of any of them being good and something people should listen to? Im sorry you dont have great friends like jimmy does.

04-28-2009, 04:33 PM
No prob fax here it is.

I feel this music has a lot of growth and at this point, the fan base will not be HUGE in my opinion but has much depth to grow and you never know. Carving a canyon I am really disappointed in because I have heard other versions of this song and liked them much more then this one. Besides that all the songs have had good revisions and I think they hit it well with this album. Really really love the text support beat and lyrics. Another point I'd like to point out is that Jimmy's voice has improved ten fold. I used to think his voice was terrible. But now I can honestly say I like it a lot. Ive basically watched 3 of the members of this band play since 6th grade, a talent show at our 6th grade graduation camp is where it all began. So to form an actual opinion on this music of whether I like it or not really doesn't matter, but I will try my best. I love these guys and am so proud of what they have put forth and done. To be where they are now at this point in their music careers is pretty overwhelming, its been a dream of theirs since they can even remember. As far as my DEAD OPINION on the music, it's def one of a kind, I still keep asking this board if they can play/show me something that sounds like it, yet nothing has come forth, and that alone is what makes me enjoy it and continue to listen to it. Overall i give the entire album a 7 outta 10, i think the creativity is real good, with many improvements and fun stuff to come that will make this not only a band but an entire project.

04-28-2009, 04:43 PM
Oh and to add to that. This board hates on so much music that has HUGE fan bases, COUGH* KINGS OF LEON....so im not shocked at peoples responses in the least bit.
