I'll be in premier with a small group of people. This will be our third year in a row camping there so we've got things pretty well figured out. I haven't got my schedule figured out yet because whenever I make one it goes right out the window as soon as I get there. What I intend to see: AC, Doves, of Montreal, NIN, TVotR, Calexico, M83, Grizzly Bear, EitS, plus some of the electronic tent too to see how that goes.

I think vending prices were around the same as Coachella... seems like beers were $6-8ish. But, IIRC, they had a beer tent with more beer selections. Some of them very decent. Though more money. And also have a booze club house thing with liquor. You can't take the liquor out of that facility, but you can carry your beers around. They also had frozen margaritas which were not very strong but were incredible on the one day that was hot.

I'll be @ the Gorge in Premier, +3 this time, though 2 won't be able to get in from Seattle 'til Saturday. My s.o. and I are hoping to arrive close to noon on Friday.

Would love to run into Chia-, Fax-, Kare-, Agadio, and all other Coachella peeps! Am thinking the setup will be a lot different than Coachella - hope I'll have room to set up the big carcamping tent (aka, the Condo).

Of Montreal is my must-see, NIN be damned. Thinking my s.o. will be taking in Reznor and can tell me all 'bout it *sigh* -sacrifices must be made.

Can't wait!!!

Definitely! I still have your # in my phone so I will track you down... if we don't just run into you in Premier. It sounds like it's a small-ish area and at least 20 of those spots have been taken by coachella board people.

We're all flying in so I don't know how much gear we'll have, last year I kept it pretty minimal for Sasquatch (a duffel bag and a backpack). Quite different than my haul for Coachella. :)

Of Montreal is a must see for me too! One of the main reasons why I'm headed back this year.

I am going with my wife and my best friend, who's flying up from SF. We are staying in the GA/Main Campgrounds. We are totally down to meet up with boardies :)

My schedule:

Saturday: Champagne Champagne, Owl City, Passion Pit, King Khan & The Shrines, Animal Collective, Sun Kil Moon, The Decemberists, Mos Def, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Crystal Castles...Conflicts to be sorted day of, but I will probably skip Sun Kil Moon and Mos Def.

Sunday: Street Sweeper, Japandroids, Calexico, The Builders And The Butchers, The Submarines, Zach Galifianakis, M83, Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction, Deadmau5...Conflicts to be sorted day of, but I will probably skip Jane's and maybe all of M83 (I'd rather have a close spot for NIN).

Monday: Heartless Bastards, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Santigold, School Of Seven Bells, Gogol Bordello, Demetri Martin, Silversun Pickups, Girl Talk, Tobacco, Explosions In The Sky, Chromeo (DJ Set)...I will probably have to skip Gogol to see Demetri Martin :(

Hey there, it's been a while. I've been lurking for the past few years and suddenly feel the need to chime in and say hello. I really havn't wanted to be a part of any conversation due to a. my rediculous screen name and b. I never came through with a pic of the built to spill shirt that psychic friend had sent to me, and felt really guilty... so I ran away like a dumb animal.

When it comes down to it, I miss you characters, and I'll also be going to sasquatch (with a crew of 20+ collectively from around the NW).

I'll be general camping from friday to tuesday.

Was premier camping small? It would seem so by how quickly the tickets sell out. I was assuming we'll be camping "near" each other due to the size of the section, though probably not "next to" each other.

Karen, I think we're arriving quite a few hours after you -- probably 1AM or later?

Just caught this chia. Premier is somewhat small compared to the acres that they have for the regular camping. You can walk across the whole area in about 5 minutes so finding people is fairly easy. This is going under the assumption that they haven't expanded the premier area from what they had last year, of course. It's a fenced in area just to the right of the main entrance, which makes for easy arrival/departures as well as convenient access for the shuttle bus.

I went in 2004 and they we left during the day to go to a store and were allowed re-entry. Last year I think they were letting people do that - if you left you could be looking at a $90 errand.

last year they gave you thins thing to hang off your mirror and you were allowed to drive in and out. i only went to the festival last year but they were fine with letting people leave and come back. And with this year there being no refunds for partial days I would figure it will be the same pass type thing.

yeah you can park your car in regular camping then just go find them, the camping area is huge though and it is easy to get lost in in the evening. but then you have to pay for the camping, if you were just trying to park somewhere and walk into camping i have no clue how that would work as there seemed to be zero parking around the venue, as there was nothing around it for miles.

im doing camping by myself right now too, until i can convince a friend to go to the fest with my extra press pass. ugh i offer my friends a free ticket and they just say washington is too far of a drive.

I also think that Mos Def would be more fun than the Decemberists, but I want to get up close for the YYYs, so I am going to have to fore go seeing Mos Def. If you don't mind seeing the YYYs from further away or if you aren't going to see them at all, I would go for Mos Def. Plus, the Decemberist will be at Lolla, which I believe you are going to.

faxman75

I am going to Lolla but not the full 3 days. About a day and a half of it. I saw the Decemberists at Coachella and they were good, I just get bored with their themes after a while. Maybe i'll just see a bit of each. I was close for the YYY's at Coachella. I didn't have a problem getting down to the mainstage for any of the acts including headliners last year at Sasquatch. There always seems to be room down there barring the actual pit so I am not concerned.

I choose The Decemberists just because I'm planning on being really close for Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I'm probably gonna spend the entire day at the main stage. I know for sure it's gonna be Doves, then a break, then I'll be at the main stage from DeVotchka on to Kings of Leon.

Faxy, have you listened to Doves yet? They and Yeah Yeah Yeahs are my top 2 artists for Saturday. I shouldn't relegate it to Fax. How many of you are checking out Doves?

faxman75
05-08-2009, 12:17 PM
I just threw some of the Doves on my Ipod about an hour ago. I will be listening.

I figure if AC sucks i'll check out Sun Kil Moon. There really is no need to get to the main stage early for anything unless you want to wait in line for the pit for every act. It's never impossible to be down there.

A nice view at sunset.

Well then, seeing a bit of both sets would probably be your best bet. That's good news about getting close and close(ish), I don't want to get screwed for NIN.

Tommy, I don't really have any interest in seeing the Doves, they aren't my cup 'o tea.

Fax, have you ever listened to Sun Kil Moon? It was maybe the most boring music I've ever heard. No matter how bad Animal Collective is, there is no way I am going to Sun Kil Moon.

I think you will need to stake out a space a little bit early if you want to be really close for NIN, but what Mark was saying, I think, was that the entire ground area of the amphitheater was never completely full last year. There is a slight incline so even if you're further back behind the barricade you can still see.

I plead ignorance in regards to Red House Painters. I listened to an entire Sun Kil Moon album (I forgot what it is called. "April" maybe?). But it was up there as far as the most boring things I've ever heard.

Hey Karen, there is a liquor store pretty close to the airport that's open till 10. I think we'll have time to get there before it closes, so it's up to you.

2 of the days last year I wasn't searched at all. One of the days I was damn near cavity searched. It really depends. "Maybe" would be my best answer.

Yea, last year I was not checked at all for 2 days and then patted down one day. But since you will probably bring more stuff into Sasquatch (jacket/poncho for example) there are more places to stash things.

Spicy bloody marys are the best but the Coachella ones were a little too much. I'm used to mixing them by the pitcher not glass, I'll go easier on the peppery components this time. :)

You know, I haven't thought about it much but I think I will drink. I normally drink miller lights and tequila, but I only like Tequila that's good so that leaves me with miller light, except you can't really get drunk off of miller light so i'll go in with somebody on some better beer if they want, i'm pretty open minded when it comes to beer.

Two of the days i'm barely interested in the headliners so going back to camp and drinking a bit might be great.

Why not find the post in this thread you speak of and send a PM?

If you can't park in the general campground there has to be somewhere else you can park your car for a couple of days.

any ideas fellow Sasquatch vets? Tommy wants to camp with us in premier but has his own rental car since he is leaving a day earlier than the rest of us.

What are his options for where he can park without a premier camping pass. He is going to leave his car and drive in with us since we have a premeir camping.

chiapet
05-11-2009, 12:29 PM
Tommy, have you tried emailing them? I have a few times this year & last and they replied within a day or two. You could surely park in the general campground w/ your camping pass (if you didn't want to try to sell it). To get into premium camping with us, you have to be in the car as we enter (they wristband at that time). What time are you flying in? Couldn't you caravan with us and then you can park your car and come in with us.

The only other suggestions I've heard are parking in a parking lot somewhere nearby but it sounds like they may tow due to people doing that during events.

fikus222

Tommy, I emailed them to ask if there is any overnight parking at/near the venue (other than in campgrounds).

Worst case, I am positive that you can put your car in regular camping w/ your camping pass. You should be able to just park and then meet us to drive in to premier.

I wouldn't mind that either. :) I am even willing to search the webs for a premier camping pass and just using it for me to park there. That's the last option, though. Thanks for emailing. That's awesome they put an info number on the web site that doesn't seem to work.

Most of us will be traveling on I-90, so here is where you can find traffic info:

http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/

Close to Seattle, this is important to note if you are leaving Seattle in and around rush hours:

I-90 EXP - The I 90 express lanes are closed to all traffic through May 23. Crews are replacing cracking bridge joints. Drivers should use I 4 0 5, 5 20 and 5 22 as alternate routes. Drivers who use the I 90 mainline will experience significant delays. Consider leaving early or staying late. For more information, call 2 0 6, 4 4 0, 4 4 4 4

The Snoqualamie Pass is the main mountain pass that should be paid attention to (it's open right now):

True, he was avoiding a vacation day on Friday and on Monday I think. I was thinking more along the lines of bribing Karen to hang out in downtown Seattle, having some dinner and then swinging back by the airport and we all caravan down together. Just ideas, not wanting to make anyone uncomfortable or do things they don't want to do or change anyones plans or anything.

So I got the tickets from Karen. I'm trying to figure out a way I can help Tommy out. Here's what I will be doing:

I'm coming up from Arizona and plane tickets to Seattle are out of my budget so I will be taking a two day Greyhound ride through Las Vegas, St. Louis, Montana, Idaho, just all over the place that ends in Quincy. The bus is scheduled to leave in the afternoon on the 20th and arrive on the 22nd around noon. This is a Greyhound so it could be early or late, there's never really knowing but in my experiences even if the bus leaves a couple hours late, it usually arrives on time. Took the Greyhound to Coachella and left two and a half hours late but still arrived in Indio at 9:30AM like the ticket said. From Quincy it's around 10-15 miles to The Gorge, I was planning on walking/hitchhiking from there. If I can help you out at all Tommy tell me and I will.

If I end up going (80% likely at this point), I can pick you up/ drive you. Hell even if I don't go, I can drive you!

3 day pass available in other Sasquatch thread in this forum. :)

So my friend flaked and I have an extra 3 day press pass, thing is that I can only pick it up at the venue, if anyone is interested please PM me, I will be flying into seattle on the Saturday at 9am then renting a car and driving to the Gorge.

Sorry Karen, I didn't get home until late last night because I was at the Nine Inch Nails/Jane's Addiction show. Money has been put in your Paypal account. Done and done. I'll be looking for my camping pass sometime around Tuesday. Good doing business with you. :) This makes it easier for everyone and takes a lot of worry off of me. This camping situation frightens and confuses me.

Not sure if anyone saw but they moved the Wookie Stage to accomodate the dance tent. It's now next to the Yeti.

You can download and see the layout here.

http://www.sasquatchfestival.com/assets/pdf/2009MAP.pdf

They also have an official pocket schedule pdf now too!

I wonder how the move of the stages will work out. There was a little bit of sound bleed from the (Wookie?) to the Main stage last year and vice versa, especially earlier in the day.

Woohoo! I need to do that as well.

Hey, anyone have any suggestion that I should bring that may be out of the ordinary, but still very necessary? Like, I remember someone saying to bring a tarp to put your tent on to keep it dry if it rains? Is this true? Any more helpful hints?

chiapet
05-15-2009, 06:04 PM
Standard rainy camping supplies apply -- groundcover for your tent, rain fly (or tarps), plenty of stakes. It rained pretty hard one night last year and was really windy. A poncho is also really helpful especially if you have to get up at night and it's raining.

So, who wants to come watch Gogol Bordello with me? It should be pretty entertaining. I will be jumping and dancing like a lunatic. Whether or not you like Gogol Bordello, watching me watch Gogol will be an event on its own. If there is even a person to watch Gogol with, its me. I would love to dance to them with all of you!

ALSO... did anyone notice they cut Gogol's set from an hour to 50 minutes? When the originally released set times, the had an hour... when did their time get cut?!?! This upsets me... 10 bucks says they play an hour either way. :)

Hell yeah :D

The silver lining is that with Gogol getting over 10 minutes early there will be enough time to get over to Monotonix.

Another positive is that NIN was originally scheduled for 1hr and now they get 1.5 hrs!!!!!!!!!

And yes I will say Hi this time. Us non-premiers campers have to stick together :D

Just as long as I have time to see The Murder City Devils (they're playing the same stage maybe? Too lazy to check).

The Avett Brother play the mainstage right before Murder City Devils.

Alright guys... here is my plan. (Bolded acts are the one's I am most excited about).

Sunday:

1:10 - Street Sweeper
2:05 - The Walkmen
eat...
3:05 - Calexico (I know nothing about these guys. But due to how Tommy and Brandon always talk about them, Im gonna check em out)
4:10 - The Avett Brothers
get into the comedy tent line...
6:00 - Zach Gilifianakis (I can't believe NO ONE here is watching this guy. He is fucking hilarious)
eat + catch the end of TV on The Radio to get a good spot for...
8:00 - Nine Inch Nails
9:30 - Jane's Addictions

Monday:

12:55 - Deerhoof (I guess... no one else is on)
1:50 - Grizzly Bear
eat...
2:50 - Santigold
3:50 - Gogol Bordello (Mark my words, they WILL play over their 50 minutes)
Make a mad dash to the Wookie for...
4:55 - Monotonix
Head home...

Seriously, the rush between Gogol and Monotonix is going to be insane. I don't know how I am going to last throught it all, but I know it will be worth it! Also, I just realized, aside from Zach Gilifianakis and Monotonix, I am at the mainstage the entire time I am at Sasquatch.

ALSO, everyone going Saturday should check out Vince Mira on the mainstage at 12:15. He played Sasquatch last year on the Yeti, and blew me away. He is a 16 year old Mexican kid who has the voice of Johnny Cash. He plays old school style rockabilly tunes and is a blast. Anyone who saw him last year at Sasquatch will know what I am talking about. When he started, the Yeti stage was empty and everyone was sitting down. By the end of his set, the Yeti stage field was PACKED right to the food vendors at the back and everyone up front was dancing. Do yourself a favour and check him out Saturday morning.

That video apparently gave the completely wrong impression of Calexico. Calexico is anything but a 2-piece band. There are usually between 8 and 16 people on stage during their shows. Check out this live selection. In concert they have a bunch of percussion, horns, a steel guitar and standard guitars, drums and bass.

They're the prototypical average rock band with a few bad songs and some decent to good songs. I don't find their music to be offensive. People just sorta jumped on the train to hate them and I don't get it. It is what it is. They are average. Alice Glass, on the other hand, offends my ears.

I've seen KOL and think they are "better" than CC for sure, but I think after YYYs, I'm going to want to go dance.

Yikes, Karen, that sounds a little brutal. Am I going to need to be handing you drinks all weekend to get you through it? :)

Hi Everyone...
I'm deciding to take a leap of faith this year and head out to Sasquatch solo. I flew up from LA and I just purchased my 3 day pass. Anyone else from LA want to let me tag along with them out there? I'm happy to pay for gas, food, drinks, whatever....
otherwise I'll rent a car and head out there on my own. If there are any other individuals or small groups that are looking to connect with someone for the show, PM me! (I'm most excited to see Animal Collective, TV on the Radio -because I missed them @ coachella- and Chromeo- but thats just the beginning)
By the way, I'm a normal, FUN, 24 year old girl from Santa Monica...
Have fun at the show everyone!

Not at all, in my experience. The venue is on a hill top over a river gorge, and I would think there would at least be some breeze. Apparently it was 80F last year and I wasn't at all hot in a tshirt and jeans, and even wore a jacket starting at like 7PM.

Maybe this is more girls thread material :) but I'd been packing jeans, tshirts, and a couple of long sleeved shirts for night. I just threw a sundress into my bag.

Stupid Poster Event was utter crap. While I was there no artists were present, no posters were available for sale and the vast majority of the posters looked worse in person (especially the Janes' poster, which was black and gold instead of the purple and gold shown on the site).

Whatever, I'm off to pick up my BFF from the airport!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is my schedule. Any openings i'm happy to join people elsewhere or stare into scenery.

Sunday

1:10 Street Sweeper
3:05 Calexico
3:40 St. Vincent
4:10 - The Avett Brothers
7:15 M83
8:00 NIN
10:00 Jane's Addiction

Monday

12:55 Deerhoof
1:50 Grizzly Bear
2:50 Santigold
3:50 Not Blitzen Trapper
3:50 - Gogol Bordello
4:55 - Monotonix
6:30 Beach House
7:30 Erykah Badu
8:45 Explosions in the Sky

On Sunday, go see The Avett Brothers. You will not regret it. I keep talking about these guys, but have't had the chance to post videos yet. I will tomorrow.

Also, on Monday your schedule seems to have an error. You say you will be at Blizten Trapper at 3:50. Silly mistake I know, but I won't hold it again you. I fixed it for you.

As well, go check out Monotonix at 4:55. I have seen them 3 times. I the first time their set got cut 13 minutes into it due to how insane and rowdy it got. The second show started inside and ended up outside on the street. The third time the drummer ended up on top of the bar (with the drumset half on the bar half being held up by the crowd. Make sure you get close though. These guys set up their equiptment on the ground. The NEVER play on a stage.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all of your recommendations Josh. Unfortunately Blitzen Trapper was not an error. I'm kind of done with Gogol and I really enjoyed Blitzen Trapper at Coachella. Gogol is fun and all live but i've been there and done that more than once.

Well then in that case, stay put at the Wookie after Blitzen Trapper. Get a good spot for Monotonix and get ready to have a blast. They are easily the most insane and chaotic live act I have ever seen. Gogol look calm and reserved compared to them.

Also, after St. Vincent, I cannot recomend the Avett Brothers highly enough. As I said, I will find some good live videos.

I'll officially add those Josh. I remember reading you and someone else go on about the monotonix live show so I will definitely check it out. I'll also see Avett Brothers. I got nothing else going on so more music always wins. :D

The Avett Brothers are a 3 piece band from North Carolina. Their primary instruments are the stand up bass, banjo and acoustic guitar. Occasionally one of them will jump on the drums and for a few songs they add a chello player. They play "traditional" (for lack of a better word) southern blue grass, but with a bit of a twist. These guys rock the banjo so hard its not even funny. With that being said, they also have some quite moving and beautiful folk tunes. So without further ado, here are some videos...

D21hfhK10wE
Them at Coachella. I fucking love this video.

_KN3n04jhIo
This song is the first song that made me cry at a concert. It sounds so fucking gorgeous live and no video I found can capture how emotional the song is. You also cant hear the chello or stand up bass very loud, but they add a whole new dimension to the song.

AHDz9hnkqJI
Just a catchy upbeat song of theirs. I enjoy it and I usually get the crowd dancing.

APTRog2gPjI
I beg of you, ALL of you, watch this entire video. The whole song is fantastic and the end rocks so fucking hard it is unbelievable. Seriously. Watch this video. (With that being said, the bit at the ends sounds FAR better live, but you get the idea.)

So, in conclusion, the only logical thing to do at 4:10 on Sunday at Sasquatch is watch The Avett Brothers.

Edited: Re: whether the Gorge is in Quincy or George. I believe it's outside incorporation limits of either. Follow the directions on their website, it's really easy to find, it's in the middle of almost nowhere.

They conflict with the last 15 minutes of St. Vincent and 40 minutes of The Builders and The Butchers.

Don't know if y'all noticed but the forecast has dropped. It's now supposed to be around 80 until Tuesday (upper 80s). Lows in upper 40s/low 50s. Still forecasting clear weather. We'll see... :)

For those of you that have never gone or who are not familiar with WA weather, definitely recommend throwing a hoodie or fleece into your bag, as well as a poncho. It gets a little chilly, and the main stage is an amphitheatre -- at the top of the hill, it was a little windy at night.

I'm packed except for my electronics that are charging. ;)

Also please listen to Josh's advice on Monotonix. Josh, I think the videos you'd posted last year were mostly on the bshoot thread, right? Maybe Sasquatch goers have not seen them yet.... ;)

rage patton

I plan on posting Monotonix videos, I was hoping more people would watch the Avett Bros videos first... THEN post the Monotonix videos. I don't want to overload everyone with my suggestions haha.

But yeah, I posted a bunch of Monotonix videos from Bumbershoot in last years Bumbershoot thread though. I wonder how crazy Monotonix at Sasquatch are gonna be. Like, I know the band will be nuts, but Im not sure how the crowd will be. When I saw them in Vancouver, the crowd was crazy. They made the Bumbershoot show seem calm. The drumset was actually destroyed after the show. Only the bassdrum and snare were salvagable. I know this because I talked to the bands touring agent after the show. They had to buy a new drumset in Portland the next day right before their show.
