View Full Version : the real Howard Stern

02-14-2007, 07:46 AM
When Howard Stern signed on to his satellite radio show Wednesday morning (February 14), he realized it wouldn't be long before the phone lines at Sirius were all lit up with fans and friends just waiting to ridicule him. And really, why shouldn't they?

Since the dissolution of the veteran shock jock's 20-year-long marriage to first wife Alison back in 2000, Stern has repeatedly vowed with his entire audience as his witnesses that he would never, ever tie the knot again. At times, he'd even deride his own pals and members of his staff in the wake of their own engagements, advising them against making the same terrible mistake he'd once made.

Well, it seems the 53-year-old King of All Media doesn't care about making the same mistake twice. Stern revealed Wednesday that he proposed to longtime girlfriend Beth Ostrosky the night before. Stern has been dating Ostrosky, a model 18 years his junior, since 2000; Ostrosky contributed a monthly advice column to the now-defunct FHM magazine and hosts "Filter" on the G4 network.

With his staff expressing their utter disbelief, Stern joked that he'd had Ostrosky's uterus excised to ensure the couple would not have children. "I see my married friends with children and it seems like absolute torture to me," said Stern, himself a father of three. Several callers to the show along with sidekick Artie Lange blasted Stern for his decision, which prompted the jock to call off the engagement on at least two occasions during the show's first hour.

"Do you want your Valentine's Day gift now?" Stern said this morning, recalling how he'd proposed to the woman known to fans as "Beth O." When the model told Stern she wanted her present early, he instructed her to strip down. Stern said she protested, insisting that she was too "fat" to disrobe. His first thought, he said, was "any girl who looks like that and thinks she's fat I've got a chance with her."

When Ostrosky did get naked, Stern said he handed her a 5.2 carat diamond ring. "I love you. You're everything to me," Stern recalled saying. "This is so gay. ... I'm asking you to spend the rest of your life with me." Ostrosky said "Yes," and Stern said the couple made love immediately after; Ostrosky claims she had her "hand up and was looking at my ring the whole time" the two were in bed.

This will be Ostrosky's first marriage. When asked if the couple had set a date yet, Stern said the actual wedding was something they didn't want to even think about for now, and that his audience can expect an elongated engagement.

i didnt get a sirius after his move, and chose to download this show daily after its broadcast through various torrent sites.
after about 2 weeks, it wasn't all that interesting anymore...primarily after the disappointment that was the whole unveiling of their secrets in their first week.

how is the show? opie & anthony are on regular radio now and have taken over his morning slot, which must be quite a kick in the nuts to him....jimmy norton is quite funny but i do miss listening to artie lange and gary.

02-14-2007, 09:37 AM
by himself, Jim Norton is funnier than Stern and his whole crew.

02-14-2007, 09:45 AM
Jim Norton is hysterical.
He adds a lot to O&A's show and while Im not familiar with how their show was pre-Norton, his chemistry with them is just great.
I think I ve been liking O&A more because they are just less self-absorbed and arrogant as Stern. I mean, Opie is kind of a cocksucker but he does express appreciation and respect for his fans and listeners. Anthony is quite amusing and their cast of regulars that drop in are very funny as well, for the most part.

I do miss Stern's supporting cast, who I think made that show as funny as it was. Then again, its been some months since Ive listened so Im quite out of the loop with many of their jokes.

02-14-2007, 09:51 AM

ya think so? i still think howard is the best interviewer around. he gets celebrities to talk about things they would never talk about.

beth o is extremely ugly btw. walk down any street in so cal and you'll see better looking chicks

02-14-2007, 11:08 AM
Howard's interviews have become pretty formulaic over the years. He's good at getting celebrities to discuss sex and relationships, but I don't think that we live in an age where it's still titillating to find out whether or not Carmen Electra likes to be spanked.

I used to enjoy his show in the 90s, though, and the addition of Artie was a fresh boost for awhile.

These days, Opie and Anthony tend to have comedian goons whereas Howard has his freak goons (Beetlejuice, etc).

02-14-2007, 11:26 AM
There is nothing funnier, nor will there ever be, than Gilbert Gotfried on the Howard Stern show.

Gilbert is God, and Stern's show is the perfect platform for him.

RIP Johnny Fratto.

Johnny Fratto has died at the age of 61, TMZ reports. The businessman, who was a regular guest on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5, following a battle with lung cancer.

According to TMZ, Fratto was surrounded by his loved ones at the time, including his wife, Ivanka.

Fratto appeared several times on Stern's hit radio show over the years, and also owned the Beverly Hills Choppers motorcycle and bicycle company. His late father, Louis Thomas Fratto, was a well-known Chicago mobster in the 1930s until his death in 1967.

Shortly after news broke of Fratto's death, fans took to social media to pay tribute. "Sad to hear about the passing of @JOHNNYFRATTO. He was a great guest on @HowardStern and always good for a laugh. RIP," one commenter tweeted.

As previously reported, fellow Wack Pack member Eric the Actor died at 39 in September 2014 after suffering cardiac-related problems. Fratto listed Eric as his "friend" under his Twitter bio. "Very sad to hear of Johnny Fratto's passing, hope he is with Eric right now," a second fan added via Twitter on Thursday. "You know what to do Johnny, you know what to do. #sternshow."

Fratto is survived by his wife and his actor son, Johnny Fratto Jr.

Yeah, that was sad to hear.

I didn't know Jon Lieberman left the channels (sort of). Howard never brings these things up. It's as if they never existed. Didn't know Lisa G was gone until like 4 months after the fact. I just assumed she was still doing the news (since I usually listen to on demand, and they stopped bringing the news people in for teases).

5 more years!

From TMZ

Howard Stern just took a bold step into the future ... not only signing a long-term contract with Sirius XM but getting into the video streaming business.
There were all sorts of rumors Howard might hang it up, but the opposite proved true. Not only did Howard sign a 5 year deal ... he agreed to let Sirius use clips from his show for the next 12 years.
Howard was typical Howard, saying, "If you are not listening to Sirius XM and The Howard Stern Show, then you are really more like a zombie, a rotting corpse monster, living half a life, deadened and blackened inside."
Howard says he's working on a new video streaming app.
We don't know what Howard's pulling in, but we're guessing it could have an impact on the GNP. The best news -- 5 more years of people yelling "Baba Booey!"

12-25-2015, 08:25 PM
I wonder how much that service for the app will be.
And will a sirius sub be required to use the app itself? (since they will live stream the video portion apparently).

In theory, this app can be awesome with all the catalog of video and audio content in one place (as opposed to youtube where we can get it now).

New interview with Artie in Maxim.

What's the status of your relationship with Howard?
After I left the show, I went into intensive care for four days. Then I went to a psych ward for three days, and then I got transferred to a rehab. About two weeks after it happened, I got a call at rehab from Howard, and it was very nice. I called him when I got out of rehab, and he called me back. That was in February of 2010. He told me to call back and let him know how I was doing. I took it to mean that maybe they wanted me back as a guest or just to give an update, and I thought I owed them that. I called them about a month later in March 2010. Then I called again and left a message and apologized and said, "This is the last time I’m calling, I won’t bug you any more." Never heard back.
A year and a half later, my book was coming out. I didn’t wanna call them, but I was being respectful of a company, Random House, paying me big cash to write a book. I said, “I’ll at least try." Just to be a guest on the show and talk about the book, which every fan on Twitter was begging to happen. [Stern show producer]Gary [Dell'Abate] calls back a day later and he says, very coldly, "It’s just not going to happen." And I regret that I gave him the chance to say that, because I didn’t even want to make the call. I said, "OK" and hung up.
That's rough.
...And then, unbeknownst to me, the book company tries to buy ad time on the show, and this is when I really knew I was persona non grata. Ad sales never turns down anything. It could be dick cream. Random House was gonna pay top dollar, and they turned them down.

It's so weird how Howard never directly talks about why Artie isn't let back on and deflects whenever a caller brings it up.
