I don't want to hate......I just don't get it. They're like a lot of other popular bands right now that feature loose musicianship and off-key singing. Sorry man.

But they seem like total smack addicts. The lead singer praised Seattle for it's plentiful H during his set, it was a little awkward.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I caught their set at ACL. They were displeased about playing an early set in the heat of the day, to say the least. Sounded good, though. Would prefer to hear them in a tent (as opposed to an outdoor stage like ACL). Hopefully there won't be any conflicts that prevent me from catching their set!

I fully support this thread.

I saw them perform a steamy set in 2005 (yes, it was in a tent). They were surprisingly good, and I have been looking forward to their return. They may not be the best set of the weekend, but I am sure that they'll be solid.

I have to throw "Midnight Boom" back into the rotation.

clumsy342
02-01-2009, 08:49 PM
I'm sure they'll be in a tent. They just better not put them on the outdoor during the day.. its evident that the Kills cannot take the heat. Alison looked near dead at Lollapalooza.
Wonder what their set time will be though... its weird to have The Kills AND Yeah Yeah Yeahs on the same day. Assuming the Kills dont close the night, I'd say they either gone on during the Cure or near sunset before YYYs.

I love The Kills, but I'm scared they'll get a teeny :45 or so to play through their stuff.

For those who missed their 2005 performance, this is nearly identical to how they ended that performance. And yes, they are covering Captain Beefheart. But that performance was even hotter (literally and figuratively) because it was late afternoon in the tent, and Alison was wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

Uh, that article is bullshit.

The band has never acknowledged they've dated, andi find it completely feasible that that is true. Also, Kate and Alison are really good friends. I wouldn't doubt that she was the one to introduce them since Alison and Kate were friends before she started dating Jamie... And Jamie and Kate were friends before dating so she's been around them for a while.

Basically, I wanna see fierce Kate there. Tyfyt.

And it's pretty boring. Zero edge. Sigh.

I thought I would miss the edge, too, and figured that was coming based on interviews and the combination of the first 2 songs. But I'm actually digging this new direction. Definitely not as hard and driving, which I'm sure I'll miss in their live shows, but hopefully they'll pull in more relentless ones (like Cheap and Cheerful, Sour Cherry, URA Fever) to the sets.

Oh, and an interviewer asked whether they made a concerted effort for this new album to sound a lot different from the Dead Weather and Jamie said definitely yes. So that's why we lost our edge.

Half of the new album is meh, but the other half is awesome.
Yeah, I really like the awesome songs though. Overall I'm pleased, hope they pick a kickass setlist.

Loved their setlist. but would have prefered "Getting Down" to close instead of Sour Cherry. Ah well.. they sounded great.

Oh, I hung back near the sound board actually. I never end up getting too close.
(although I strolled right up to PJ Harvey at the end of the set.. swoon)

Left during Tape Song to catch Mumford. I'm glad to see I didn't miss too much after. Really enjoyed the new stuff live.

Are the new songs better live than on album?

clumsy342

that's sort of a tough call. They are good live. but the album is good too. so..?

I guess if you don't like the new songs, you won't like them live either. :/

I hope they play Nail In My Coffin when I see them next

I was very sad they didn't play Cheap and Cheerful or Last Day of Magic.

Other than that, great set.

They sounded good and won over some friends that saw them for the first time. I saw them at the Palm Springs airport Monday waiting for the same flight going to Dallas.

I wish they had played Monkey 23, but I knew they weren't going to. It's ok, it was still a great set.

This was probably the highlight of my Saturday. I love them so much. I was shocked to hear them play The Last Goodbye live. Alison seems to have the confidence now to sing such a powerful song now. I don't think a couple of years ago she would have done it. She had def benifited from playing with Dead Weather. It was sooooo good.

Based on the Lollapalooza clue game it looks like The Kills will be playing Lollapalooza this year :)

Their set was solid, but I wanted more from No Wow. I haven't listened to their new album enough to form an opinion. I thought the Dead Weather set from last year was way better.

I think you're right. She definitely seemed more confident, especially during this song.

well, if they did the same set at the fillmore that they did in portland, then it is essentially the same set they did at coachella too

Ah Pemberton. Is it weird that I kinda miss the dust and being stuck in traffic for 4 hours?...haha... That was a great festival year. Went to that, Coachella AND Sasquatch that year.
