View Full Version : Watch Menik Grow Up

02-08-2007, 08:27 AM
Our good friend Erik is going to mature, like a good chia pet, before our very eyes in this thread.

With a hair cut and shave, he looks boyish...but give him long locks and a fuzzy face and the dude becomes your father.

In this thread he will provide a weekly photo of himself and also discuss random occurences in his life and, hopefully, a look into his diet.

He hasn't agreed to this, but I know he will do it because he's one of the most dependable board members on the planet.

So, Erik....please feel free to give us your opening comments and a current photo of yourself. I know there are a lot of new people here but, as we've seen in the past, everyone learns to love you (just no discussing Radiohead/Depeche Mode and lunar landings).

02-08-2007, 08:33 AM
Um ok, but it will have to wait until tonight. I'm at school and don't get out til 4pm, and won't be home for another hour and a half after that. Maybe I'll shave again tonight, so I can start clean.

why dont you start off with a picture of you as a kid with your jurassic park schwag?

02-08-2007, 10:57 AM
Theres no need to discuss Depeche Mode and Radiohead cause Coachella 2006 settled the argument once and for all. Depeche Mode is bigger than Radiohead. End of story.

Recent Pic and update later tonight

02-08-2007, 07:24 PM
Ok I really dislike taking pics of myself first off, but once or twice a week I think I can handle. Now of course the pics are to track my growth of hair/beard (or lack thereof), so I know you might complain the background in this first pic is a little dark, but gimme a week to get comfortable or something.

Anyway, this pic is based off a shave that was three days ago (I use a mach3 turbo), and my last haircut was Jan. 21st of this year. Usually when I'm clean shaven, have short hair, and am in good light, I get mistaken for being a 15 year old.

As far as my diet habit went today, well um....this morning I had three Oreo cookies and a glass of milk. Then I munched on some cheeze-it crackers during my film history class, then at about 4pm I chomped down a snickers candy bar (just regular size). I had a small glass of coke when I got home (out of a 2-liter), and for dinner (while watching the new season of Survivor), I'll be having some grilled chicken, a side of rice (topped with soy sauce), and some broccoli.

I also started my lab monitoring shift at school today, in which I just sit there for three hours (1-4) and sign people in/out. I thought it was gonna be really boring, but this new girl ended up coming in (she's a monitor during my shift as well), and we chatted it up for about 2 hours or so. She actually was at Coachella last year too! She worked in some tshirt booth (near the virgin tent), so she missed Daft Punk, but it was cool to talk about that with her.

We also hit up topics of films (obviously), live music and bootlegs (right up my alley), Nirvana (again, up my alley), public transportation, and a few other things. Not bad I guess...

3 days since last pic...

See, no difference.

I honestly can't remember everything I've eaten over this past weekend, but I know it hasn't been much, and wasn't very exciting. I remember having a ham sandwich with mustard, mayo, lettuce, cheese slice on some wheat bread. I had some pasta and chicken last night for dinner, with a gatorade. Though I prefer Vitamin Water over gatorade. My favorite vitamin water I think is the Peach-Mango flavor. In fact, I collect those vitamin water labels...I wanna try get one of each flavor and variety. Some are harder to find than others (like cran-grape).

Here are the ones I've tried:

power c
formula 50

and here are the ones I still need to try:

(and I think a couple other tea flavors).

Some of them are hard to find though...I've never seen defense anywhere, and only came across the lemon-lime (rescue) recently. I'm gonna keep trying though.

02-11-2007, 04:57 PM
When did you start the heroin habit?

02-11-2007, 04:59 PM
I'm gonna stop when I turn 27.

Menik-2 things.

1) this could turn out to be the best thread ever.
2) Regarding the vitamin waters: my personal favorite is Formula-50, with the least palatable being the one that tastes like lemonade (horrible aftertaste). Which one is the Peach-Mango flavor? I can't say that I recall trying it. Which is your least favorite?

02-11-2007, 08:00 PM
The Peach-Mango is the 'endurance' one. My least flavor would be 'Formula-50' of the ones I've tried. I only had it once, but I remember not liking the after taste.

02-11-2007, 08:09 PM
I know for a fact that Kurt Cobain would have preferred Formula-50 over Endurance. And you call yourself a fan.

02-11-2007, 10:29 PM
did you have a thing for dinosaurs?

02-11-2007, 10:38 PM
I still do.

02-11-2007, 11:02 PM
that's darling. i see a lot of T-rex up there, is that your favorite?

02-11-2007, 11:19 PM
Rescue is green tea and Stress B is lemon-lime. I did have to look it up. I'm pretty sure Formula 50 was my favorite. I haven't tried all of them either. I remember being dissapointed in with it when I tried it.

Has anyone tried the green tea frap at starbucks? That shitty is bomb.

02-12-2007, 12:12 AM
I like Formula 50 much more than the others. But they're almost all good.

Ha! Nice despription, Tom. I was going to go with the "Thom Yorke lazy Eye", but I like your idea better.

02-12-2007, 05:47 PM

My favorite dinosaur? Hmmm....well definitely the Tyrannosaurus. But I've always liked the Brachiosaurus and Stegosaurus as well and Pteranadon too. It's really hard to pick a favorite actually.

Had a cuppa noodles (beef flavor) for breakfast today, quite good. Just add water and nuc it for 3 minutes, can't get much easier than that. I had a ham sandwich and some chili limon chips for lunch along with a vitamin water (the green tea flavor - won't be trying that again). Rained all day though, I hate the rain. I'll put a new pic up tomorrow maybe. It's hot dogs for dinner tonight, yum! I think there's some Dew in the fridge too.

02-12-2007, 06:21 PM
Fuck the monitor. What you need is to take Los Professional with you. A little CyRonnieO de Bergerac for that ass.

Lemonade Vitamin Water is delish.
Vitamin Water sponsored last summer's kickball league, so we had tons of free vitamin water. The dragonfruit one is good. Mixes with vodka nicely.

I'm trying to look as bored and miserable as I can possibly can while taking pics of myself, because I can hardly stand it. Plus this is my "i'm alone and miserable on vday" look too I guess. There's a faint outline of fuzz now....but it's been what? 9 or 10 days already....no idea why it takes me 3 times as long as every other guy to grow some simple fuzz.

In fact, the most exciting thing I did all day was cook and eat 5 slices from a frozen pepperoni pizza (DiGorno brand). Had an orange gatorade with it. Besides that, only thing I ate all day was some peanut butter M&M's while I was waiting to hop on the ferry (about 1:30pm or so).

Um yeah, other than that, nothing has been happening in my life. I'm boring.

02-14-2007, 09:59 PM

Menik - mine grows as slow, if not slower than yours. And I'm 35. So don't sweat it. You've aged 10 years since this started.

I learned a great tip the other day in an article - don't eat anything your great grandmother wouldn't have been able to eat in her day. Live that rule. Asshat is and I believe he will be fit come Coachella time.

He's busy growing up.

02-19-2007, 03:13 PM

This is probably the look I prefer the most, where it's not too long or gruffy looking, but not too short where I look like a boy who's just hitting puberty. Though I look horrible in that picture, and I've pretty much done nothing since waking up today.

What did I eat yesterday? Hmmm...nothing for breakfast. Had a pastrami (w/pepperjack cheese) sandwich for lunch with a lemonade vitamin water (which I froze first in the freezer). Then um...had a hamburger for dinner with some tater tots.

As today goes...I had some chip ahoy cookies when I woke up, then drank a coke while playing some guitar hero 2 and organizing my bootlegs, then just finished off some crumbs in the tortilla chip bag. I was gonna have some chili chips n cheese, but then I remembered we had no cheese. Bummer.

Menik, you should shave your head. I bet you have a nice melon.
Speaking of melon, you don't have any pictures of yourself any younger than the first one you posted? Or, were you born in that pumpkin patch?

03-01-2007, 10:10 AM
I don't have any baby pictures...they all burned in a fire. There might be one of me at age three floating around, but defiantly not any younger than that.

I vote for a smiling pic. Keep the pics coming. The more I see, the more easily I'll recognize Erik in the coachella crowd. I think I'm at the point where I'll recognize Brandon, but now I'm not sure if he can even come. :(

03-01-2007, 10:26 AM

I don't have any baby pictures...they all burned in a fire.

That sucks. Was everything else okay?

03-07-2007, 08:48 PM
It was a bit of a strange fire....it was at my mom's apartment that she was currently living in, at that time (I wasn't living with her - I haven't since like 1990). Anyway...the apt was actually this really old victorian home turned into apts...and she had a place on the third floor or something. Somehow, it was never figured out I think, but a fire started in the basement and burned the whole building down, and she had everything of mine that dated earlier than the 3rd grade...so all my old schoolwork from preschool-2nd grade, pictures, old clothes, and god knows what else...all that burned up. I don't think anyone was injured in the fire though.

What's even weirder though, is that people claimed that the house was haunted, and my mom showed me two pics she took of the aftermath, and I SWEAR there was like a ghostly form sitting on what was left of the stairwell, and then in the other pic (which was of some wall that was left standing), there was like something small standing on top of it, couldn't make out what it was though. I know that sounds weird, but IT IS/WAS weird. I wish I could find those pics from her again.

Anyway, I think my dad has one baby pic of me, when I was one day old...an old poloroid...but thats it.

I have no idea what day this of growth, I've lost count.

What have I eaten today? Hmmm...I had a pepsi and banana this morning, then a ham sandwich, lays chips, a slim jim, and a purple vitamin water for lunch....then drank some fiji water while I painted some balloons during the afternoon. I think it's gonna be a hamburger and tater tots for dinner tonight.

03-12-2007, 06:03 PM

03-19-2007, 05:53 PM

For those interested in my eating habits today...I had a banana and a pepsi this morning at work at around 7:15am...then for lunch (at 11:45am), I had a ham sandwich, and then walked over to 7-11 and picked up an orange vitamin water, and a cherry homerun pie. I had a green apple with me, but never got around to eating it.

I just ate my early dinner...noodle terryaki bowl picked up from Traders Joe. I had some left over spaghetti too.

Oh and I also got my new shoes today! No more having to wear coleman (one size too big - steel toed - not even really mine) work boots to school and whatnot anymore.
