View Full Version : travelling 5756 miles to see you guys!

hi everyone!
right now im planning my first trip to the USA.
a few weeks ago i heard, that ratm will reunite and didnt really think,
that i would have the opportunity to see them, because of my financial status.

but i have managed to persuade my family to lend me money for
a one month trip to California!
at the moment i am positively excited, because it is my first bigger travel
i have to organize on my own, and i wont bring anyone with me i know.

you know, when i read the stuff posted on the message-board, i dont have any doubts, that it will be a great festival with cool people from around the world!
but i worry a little bit about the time after the festival!
my plan was to stay in san diego at the house of a guest-family a friend of mine visited for one year when he did an exchange to the US.
but only god knows why:
they will come to germany(yeah, thats where i live) exactly during the time, when i will be in the US.
so my biggest problem is mainly to get a roof over the head.

i will prolly arrive at april 24th... so bumming around till the gates open, could
be a possibility...
but afterwards i dont really want to be on a camping site for one month...
and a hotel for one month is too expensive for me.(the flight alone is about 800$)

i will check the couchsurfing community to find a place, but i hope that i will get connections through this messageboard.
so my plan is:
- travelling to the usa at the end of april...
- visit the festival
and then:
iŽd love stay in LA! watch a lakers game, and try to partake in a workshop at the GIT.

so... now something about me:
i live in berlin germany, in a living community with 2 students.
i finished highschool 2 years ago and plan to study music.(im 20 years old)
i work as a studio-musician, i play in several bands(metal, electronic and pop)
so im open for every style of music, except fascist bullshit and stuff.
and twice a week iŽm a driver for a dental-laboratory, so i drive around dental prothesis, which is a quite cool job but i plan to get something started in the music business.
i play guitar(electric styles and classical as well) and piano(just started)...
for a photo of mine, just check my profile:
most people say im quite attractive, if that matters to you.

ok whats the deal?
i hope to get to know people by posting this message and in the best
case of course, to get a opportunity to stay in a flat or a house.
it doesnt matter if its a couch im sleeping on or the floor.
and even if you dont want me to stay at your house,
i would be glad to have company in city like l.a....
( ummmm my email is: julian.quack@googlemail.com btw..)

greetings from berlin!
Julian Quack

and sorry for any spelling mistakes or grammar stuff, i hope it gets better.

i could really need a place to stay for some days or only one day after the festival. most likely in LA.

02-07-2007, 12:57 PM
will you be 21 by the time you get over here?

02-07-2007, 01:11 PM
no. my birthday is in august.
but im thinking about a fake id.

02-07-2007, 01:35 PM
because i live about 40 min. from la and i like to drink.
but i also work at a restaurant and i dont think youd have a problem drinking there. are you renting a car?

02-07-2007, 01:45 PM
no i wont rent a car because i think i need to be 21...
and even if. probably only for a couple of days.
and the drinking thing:
its so stupid. alcohol is legal at the age of 16 here in germany.

i bet iŽll drink you under the table ;)

02-07-2007, 01:49 PM
you can rent a car if youre 18, you will just have to pay like $25-$30 more.

and i can hold my own pretty well thankyouverymuch.
hows that couchsurfing thing going? its so easy to find someone on there who is willing to help out.

there are two other couchsurfing sites that i know of. i'll let you know when i remember.

wtf? i like paul gilbert, and freak kitchen. you probably figured that out beacause of the GIT thing.

im writing.. and writing and writing.
i started this evening after i made this topic.
no responses so far.
and iŽll take your challenge ;)

with the car:
iŽll see how much money i can spend.
perhaps iŽll rent a car, and sleep in it, if i find nothing ;)

how did you plan on getting around in the first place?
what airport are you flying into?

02-07-2007, 02:11 PM
i think i will arrive in LA, or palm springs.
and getting around... there are these greyhound buses and trains...
they are cheap arent they?
and if i in the city, i will probably rent a bike.

im going to bed...
its quite late here in berlin and i have to get up early, so dont wonder why i dont respond so fast. thanks to anyone who will help!

I've never heard of this coachsurfing nonsense. I'm currently reading the FAQ on the website; looks interesting, to say the least.
