Salah, I've hated Primus for almost as long as you've been alive. :) And then they were on the lineup for OSL last year, and I decided I would check them out. Needless to say, I am a fan now.

I think my hate for them was mostly due to every guy I knew listening to them, and I lumped them into "crappy guy music I don't like." Like Anthrax. :P

But Anthrax is actually a shitty band.

You see that. Anthrax IS. Because Anthrax is a band. One singular band. You guys are about to give me a stroke.

He's talking about his grammar. Now he's going to talk about yours. Why are you disturbing this thread, Marco?

And how can it surprise you that Salah doesn't like Primus?

I like Stalking Sally Bear.

That's funny, I've never been the world's biggest Primus fan myself, but I must say, their OSL set really did change my opinion of them quite a bit, it was pretty fucking amazing. They're just awesome live. So much fun. Lots of jamming and lots of moshing... it's weird that that comes out as a such a perfect combination with them, but it does and it's great.

My fiancee (girlfriend at the time) came to Primus with my buddy and I in 2006. She thought they were OK before the show... but didn't think too much of them. She came out of the show a HUGE fan. She now loves Primus and was actually pretty disapointed when they weren't on the initial Roo anouncement.

They is amazing live.

Yeah it was fun, I started seeing shapes and all sorts of things when I closed my eyes, and AHHH the music! The music sounded insane. I could just pick out all the little parts of every song like they were being played live right in front of me. Quite a good feeling. I was in a very large group at the time though so I think I would have had much more fun if I was alone or with just 1 or 2 other people.

Wait until you eat taco bell after getting stoned. Just you wait.

Also, get stoned and whip out the ipod. Music youve listened to thousands of times are gunna sound new to you. Songs you originally really had not much of a clue what thet were about will suddenly make sense to you. I've cracked a lot of Beck songs this way :p

Yeah I got to listen to lots of my favorite music too. It lasted a couple hours or so. And it did sound very different. I tried to pick out the music I love that's especially trippy... and some of my favorites were a couple songs by Animal GayGayGay :D and "Loomer" by MBV.

Everything by MBV sounded soooo different... all the sounds were all separated and they made all sorts of sense for once. It was weird.

Probably, although you'd have to eat a lot of it. We just keep boiling and boiling and boiling, then we strain it so we have to ingest a very small but potent portion of it. I cannot stress how absolutely disgusting it is to drink. I can't imagine eating the chunky pulp instead of just drinking it. SLIMY.

Ok, it's not really slimy now that it's been boiled, but it was really slimy when I cut it. (I just checked it) Still. I wouldn't want to add any gross texture to the mix.

Well, she would tell me its ok and that I could do it if I wanted to, but I know she would be uncomfortable with it. There are also other reasons. But I should just leave it there.

As for Coachella, probably Friday. But I will decide when set times comes out.

Ally, we haven't tried that yet, but hesitant tests in the past with mixing the drink with sweeter stuff have been miserable failures. What we usually do is take one sip of the cactus juice and then a sip of some sweet juice, like cranberry, orange, or pineapple/orange/banana juice. Maybe alternating sips with a juice smoothie would work too. DO NOT TRY ALTERNATING WITH COKE (a-cola) because that's just gross.

Where do people come up with this shit? It's funny as each lineup comes out everyone thinks it's better than the last.

If every single Lollapalooza comes true it still doesn't top last year if you ask me and that didn't even help that shit festival. The lolla lineup last year destroyed the Sasquatch lineup on paper but in experience Sasquatch destroyed Lollapalooza.

Yeah Sushy was saying this exact thing in the Lolla thread. I guess he regrets buying tickets to Bonnaroo. The thing about Lolla is I can see any of those bands somewhere else and not really have to pay that much. Tool may be the exception but, you're right Faxy, they could very-well start a tour later this year. I saw Kings of Leon in a small club last year. I've had a lot of chances to see Depeche Mode over the years. Jane's Addiction is touring. The Killers are playing Coachella and touring. Beastie Boys are playing Bonnaroo and touring.

What Lolla can't give me is the Bonnaroo experience. I know because I've been to both festivals. I urged Sushy to sell his Roo ticket and just go to Lolla if he doesn't care about festival atmosphere.

faxman75
03-24-2009, 09:36 AM
Word Tommy. I'm got such a kick out of Sushy's statement. Like wtf are you going to Roo for and then regretting it before it even happens? It doesn't make sense. It seems these festivals release a lineup and there is a collectve "oh man I want to go to this one, it's way better than the one i'm going to". So funny. Lots of Coachella bashing this year in a subtle way. For instance last year on the board there was huge backlash. This year it seems no one is overly outraged just all meh, not that great and occasionally you will see a bitchy rant thread. This years Coachella lineup is far inferior to last years but that said it's better than just about every single festival in the country save maybe Bonnaroo at this point.

hawkingvsreeve
03-24-2009, 09:37 AM

I probably know the bands more than 98% of the people going. I simply don't think any concert experience will ever beat last years Coachella for me personally. There are a ton of acts I plan on seeing and I love the festival. In fact by the time the festival occurs I will have heard at minimum one full album by every single band on the lineup. Not one bullshit youtube clip. Not a song or two from each band. A full album. I've listened to at least 70 thus far. I've stalled the last couple of weeks though and have to pick back up the pace as it's coming fast.

Hey guys,

My first Roo and I'm hella excited! Here's what I've gathered in the midst of my suspense:

- 311 and the Wailers each have a mysterious "TBA" June 13th date on their tour pages. Coincidence?

- My buddy's dad was talking to Butch Trucks and he said the Allmans would be there. But he is only a drummer and we all know how much information those guys are provided with

- I heard that a Louisville, Kentucky radio station, specifically 91.1, announced that My Morning Jacket is practicing for a Bonnaroo appearance.

Just thought I'd contribute. See you all on the farm!

This makes no sense. Seriously. None. You can't give them a pass for sucking on an entire tour. Did they purposely suck? Did they play all of their songs differently? I've seen you write this before and it still makes zero sense.

They're just the last band that should ever play a 20,000-cappacity venue. Their live shows in intimate venues are practically a spiritual experience it's so awesome. I'm not sure if I want to punch Matt Johnson in the mouth for naming his band The The or not.

You don't. I'm sure of it.

I used to have this theory that I like pretty much any band who is, or has been, on 4AD (the label). I had the same theory for Sarah, and a few others, and used to file my music by label to accommodate this. Only, bands move labels too much that it became "4ADish".

People kept asking me what my "four a dish" folder was. :nono

I broke down and arbitrarily categorized it "Dream" and to only a very limited degree it has dream pop, space pop, etc, it's mostly shoegaze, actually.

This only tangentially has anything to do with this thread, and nothing to do with Bonnaroo.

I always thought it looked like a bunch of smilies eating a live horse. His eyes are open and 2/3rds of those smilies are chomping, not beating. 1/3rd is chomping and beating.

chiapet
03-24-2009, 01:55 PM
well, mark, when you think about it, disembodied graphical representations of human emotions have no arms or legs with which to conduct beatings, only gaping maws with which to inflict pain, so where there is no body the beating becomes an eating.

He doesn't say it outright, but he says Arcade Fire sunset in the outdoor stage was great, and he mentioned a few other bands. Then he wen't on to say that is the spot Fleet Foxes, cohen, and Paul Weller would be playing. Which makes perfect sense.
