I've been revisiting of Montreal a lot recently.

Next time I see Mr.Barnes, if I don't see his cock, I'll feel like I'm not getting my money's worth.

Nah, you're not overreacting. It's bad enough that the Kevin pictures were posted, but there was absolutely no reason for Todd to come by and post even more explicit ones after seeing that people were objecting to NSFW pictures.

Links, kids, links. If you want to show something like that, make it clear that it's not work safe and put a link. Don't post inline.

TommyboyUNM

Yup, totally right chia. So anyway, Bonnaroo.....

I'm having a Bonnaroo listening extravaganza today. I already listend to a Band of Horses album. Then it was Of Montreal and St. Vincent. Now NIN Ghosts (of course this isn't the first listen, but I was in the mood). I really really like the St. Vincent album. She and Portugal. The Man. are the two artists I'm glad to have discovered because of Roo so far.

I have not really been listening to Bonnaroo music yet -- still haven't checked out Coachella music. I like Portugal the man though.

Who should I be checking out from the lineup (that I've not mentioned on my list)?

Not sure if she was on your list, but check out "Marry Me" by St. Vincent. I've also heard good things about Gomez, but I haven't given a listen at this point.

NSFW is a pretty basic disclaimer that people should use. Hi Roo thread. I just got done watching some Jeff Tweedy vids from his solo shows this weekend in Chicago. Wish I could have been there but Wilco will rock the Roo.

I am off today so I went to check out the White Sox new spring training facility, came home and my computer was crashed and it's finally back up and running after a few scandisks. Fuck.

I've been fighting the primus thing for going on two decades. They were just that band that guy friends / boyfriends listened to obsessively and it kind of irritated me. Then I saw them at OSL last year.... and had to admit I was wrong ;( So I'd welcome them at bonnaroo too.

Nothing is wrong with me, you are being a fucking retard. This is a public message board relating to a music festival, not a forum for tits and ass. If you want to post that, post it elsewhere. You have been around long enough to know that posts like that get deleted, and people even get banned for it. If you are going to continue to post it, be respectful enough of other members here and put "NSFW" in front of it.

Does this really have to be explained?

I saw them at Roo and it wasn't really anything special for me. I'm a casual fan of Zappa and they did not play one single solitary song I knew. Probably my least favorite set of the weekend if I had to choose one. It was pretty good anyway though. I'm sure the bigger Zappa fans would just love it.

Yeah, it's true. It would be nice to be an obsessive fan of such a prolific artist like that... all of my favorite bands unfortunately have pretty small catalogs of recorded music, relatively speaking. So I run out of stuff to listen to pretty quick.

He does have a few "hits" though I was hoping I could at least count on to hear. I fucking loooove Peaches en Ragalia. Basically anything on Hot Rats would have been amazing to hear live.

Well, because I've seen every band playing on the last day that I'd want to see. Tough to justify sticking around for that.

I prefer the undercard of Sasquatch to that of Bonnaroo, at first glance. And actually, probably the lineup as a whole, too. Must look at it more closely.

From Inforoo

Take this with a grain of salt, but...

I have a friend who's usually pretty reliable on these things (he does booking for a major New England rock & roll club). He claims that starting this spring, Raekwon & Ghostface will be touring with a live band to coincide with the supposed April 7th release of "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2". In any case, he's telling me that they'll be at Bonnaroo this summer. He's been right on this stuff before - he doesn't have a ton of inside info, but he does come across some nuggets. I'm not getting my hopes up, but there it is.

Plus Down is back on the lineup :D

David Byrne, Beastie Boys, Bruce, Wilco, MGMT, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Of Montreal, Phish. All bands that Sasquatch doesn't have. The only artists I really care about at Sasquatch that I won't have chances to see elsewhere are M83 and Explosions In The Sky. It's a good lineup, but in my situation it's not something that will prompt me to go.

I just posted in the other thread actually, but it looks like a lot of fun. It seems like it is most of the highlights from Coachella and Bonnaroo wrapped up in one festival. If I go to Roo I wouldn't go to Sasquatch though, being that I will have seen all of these bands at one of the other festivals. I wish M83 was at one of the festivals I was going to though, so kudos to Sasquatch for that.

I can see them somewhere else (and have seen most of them) but that would require going to 20+ shows... the sum of Sasquatch is better for me right now, music-wise. I'm not saying I'm not going to Bonnaroo, this would be incremental festivating.

But to answer your question, these are the ones that don't have overlap:
jane's

the gorge is very easy to get around, it's small, large paved pathways, it's set into a hillside so it's amphitheatre style seating, you can easily see even for the headliner. The area near the stage was not at all crowded most of the daytime.

I never said I thought headliners were the most important. I just said headliners DO matter, where as some people say they aren't a big deal. At festivals like Bonnaroo and Sasquatch where bands don't conflict with headliners, its sort of a big deal.
With that being said, the undercards are always what make festival line ups. This Sasquatch is a perfect example. Aside the from NIN/Jane's, the bands I would be most excited to see are Gogol Bordello, The Avett Brothers and Monotonix.
And considering I went to Sasquatch last year, and have never been to Bonnaro, this is a big part in my decision to stick with Bonnaroo.

It should be kept in mind that Sasquatch is a smaller scale festival, so you wont have Springsteins or McCartneys there, but from the looks of it, it seems very well put together. I have to figure out if Bonnaroo heavily outweighs Sasquatch (for me) before I buy tix to anything. I'd like to go to all 3, but I don't think that is in the cards.

With all due respect my fren, that is very incorrect. It has been going on since the 70's and usually mostly sunny every year. They coincide this fest with the summer solstice for a reason. Just recently, it rained pretty bad a couple of the years each day. The flooding pictures you always see are actually pics 5 minutes after it rained in a tiny section of the farm. Then the rain ran off, leaving it very muddy, yes, but not flooded. Last year, the weather was perfect, as it rained only on Thursday night and into Friday. It was welcomed, as it wouldn't be Glasto without a wee bit of rain.

The fest is not for the soft. It is a grind physically and mentally. Glastonbury is not only the greatest festival on this planet, but the greatest place on earth. I hope all of you get to experience its greatness one day.

ShyGuy, it definitely rains in June, perhaps not all day every day. But I wouldn't expect it to be worse than the PNW in spring. And after Sasquatch last year, I feel confident that I can set up camp properly to stay dry. Definitely want to try Glasto someday... but admit that the scale of it does scare me a little and I wonder how many bands I'd really get to see for trekking all over the place and being stuck behind scores of thousands of people at each stage.

But still feel like I'll do it someday (and hopefully one of these years soon) :)

I feel the same about Springsteen -- and Petty last year at OSL and McCartney this year for Coachella. There are a lot of well established artists that I would not go to see at a solo concert but will enjoy enough and will consider it a "free" concert for the cost of the bands I want to see.

Chia, music takes a back seat to the everything else. You can't run stage to stage like we do at the fest's here. Picking out a few bands to see each day, and then wandering the rest I feel is the best plan. It sits on 900 acres, and they have everything you can possibly imagine there. The Healing Field was a godsend and the Stone Circle isn't something that can be put into words unless you are a druid poet.

If anyone is interested, I would suggest reading this from page 1 - end:

http://www.gorge.org/glastonbury/tort-faq1.shtml#00

"It is entirely possible to spend 5 or 6 days at Glastonbury and not watch a single band and yet still have the most spectacular few days of your year."

fck!!! i can't wait to get back to glasto!!! next year is the last year before they take a year off. I'm counting on portishead and arcade fire being there, so anyone thinking of going should 1. go to the site and register as you have to submit a picture that they will print on your ticket and 2. start saving up now although it doesn't cost as much as you would think if you know what you are doing.

That is what I'm most worried about for the roo (the heat), but with shade and cold drinks it should be okay. Everyone I know who's gone to Glasto has gotten rained on heavily, but it's not like it rained all day every day... I'm sure it's still a shock for anyone who's not camped in rain, and the muddy pictures you always see are definitely intimidating :)

(It's a little sad that they're 'intimidating' to me now, maybe 10 years ago it would have looked like a ton of fun to be stuck in a mud pit for days).
