True. It's the 10th year. The least they could've done is make tickets just a little bit cheaper

Tennesse > California

I must say, it is hard to disagree with this. Tennessee is a fucking AWESOME state. I really encourage you all to spend some time there before or after Roo. Nashville is a really fun city, and the surrounding countryside in central Tennessee is just fucking beautiful. It's so green your eyes hurt. And if you think that's fun, the Appalachians are even better. And the people are so great and friendly too. I would really like to go to Memphis as well, and I think I'm stopping there on my road trip this year.

I still think California is the best state in the union, but the urban areas of California are horrible, outside of downtown San Francisco... downtown Nashville on the other hand is awesome.

Anyone in the BonnaCrew who hasn't listened to Neko Case, you should do so. She has a great voice and I've heard from Faxy that she's good in concert. She's an artist I wanna see at the Roo.

faxman75
02-07-2009, 02:29 PM
No, actually Faxy will tell you that he loves her voice and she has gotten better in concert but the first time I saw her was inside the old Nita's hideaway after Blacklisted came out. The place holds about 200 people probably. She argues with the sound guy about her monitor between EVER SINGLE SONG :nono

The crowd was groaning, the set ended at 55 minutes and I swear she bitched for 20 of those minutes. I saw her open for Calexico about a year and a half later and she was much better. Love that Patsy Clyne voice of hers. I need to download her new stuff.

my gf and I just got our tix...excited to officially be going to our first roo! yay!

Glad you got your tickets man! Bonnaroo usually "sells out" each year but it probably won't be for a while. The majority of tickets are sold at the highest price, someone I know who has done from work in Bonnaroo told me that in 2006 the tiers were like 5k/5k/10k approx with the remaining 60k at the highest level. I have no way to verify that and obviously this probably changes every year, but I do know that at this point the majority of tickets have not been sold.

I think it is smart the way Bonnaroo uses their ticket levels. Offering cheaper tickets early rewards the diehards and also provides an early stream of revenue for superfly. It's also totally a marketing gimmick in a way because as the levels sell out people feel they need to buy their tickets sooner. And I know for sure that the majority are sold at the highest price.

It is interesting to note that even Bonnaroo's highest ticket price is still lower than Coachella's always price. Comparing lineups I think it is clear Bonnaroo spent more on their bookings too. It really is a great deal, 4 nights of non-stop music and mayhem (compared to 3 half days) + camping for $100 cheaper.

Either way I will be buying my ticket the day of most likely as I have the luxury of being local and there are ALWAYS tickets available outside of the festival for cheap.

To all of the board members who support the Roo this blunt's for you! :D

Wow. That list on the first page got a hell of a lot bigger. And I'm sure there's some more to come still. I'm really excited now. It should be fun meeting some of you too!

I'm in the process of talking one of my own good friends into going right now. He thinks the lineup is a lot better than Coachella's (I'm sure he's going to that anyway) but he doesn't have much money right now, and he's only a junior in high school and I don't know how down his mom is going to be with all of this... so I'm trying to get around those obstacles right now. But he posts on this board occasionally. So I'm hopinh add his name to the list soon haha.

If not, though, I'll be one of you guys going without any friends from home... sadly...

There are a series of roads that you can access just before Manchester that will allow you to avoid the major traffic jams. I have detailed routes for travelers coming from East or West I-24 which is where 98% of the fans will be coming from.

You may have seen me selling this map last year. People loved the map and thanked me after the festival by email telling me how much time they saved. You will be glad you purchased this very affordable map when you are sitting at your camp enjoying a cold beverage while talking with your friends on your cell who are still caught up in traffic and will be for hours to come.

I would say it's 100% that there will be no Lights in the Sky. We are going to get a very scaled down NIN and it's going to be raw, hard core and wonderful. They are a 4 piece now as well. Should be interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a lot more ghosts stuff.

I think you could be close but the Roo never has people playing opposite the headliners. My guess would be Beasties on friday, late night set by Phish. Saturday Bruce late night NIN. Sunday closers will most likely be Phish. Bonnaroo almost always ends things with a jam type of act.

Just guesses of course, I really do love how Bonnaroo releases their schedule so early. More time to obsess and plan over everything! I'll be there for sure :D

Is it really that easy? I dont want viruses

Yes it is that easy. Make sure you use a virus scanner and just download MP3s if you don't want viruses.

One more thing, Download Peer Gaurdian 2. It will protect you from the big bad RIAA tracking what you are downloading. Just enable it when you are downloading. It blocks IPs so there are some sites you can't visit when it is enabled. Just disable it when you aren't downloading to visit those sites.
http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

If you read the comments posted on the file it will tell you if it is a virus, but they are very rare in the torrent world. I have never gotten a virus through torrents, they are pretty good about that.

Blinken, just a thought too, if you don't like "80s" music, Three Imaginary Boys / Boys Don't Cry (aka, first album) is more rock, not at all new wave, owes more to punk, mostly guitar heavy fast paced songs (almost everything on the album clocks in under 3 minutes).

I have never thought of the Cure as a 'new wave' band?? So I'm curious what you listened to that gave you that impression.

Oh no I actually agree with you that it does come across as goth and depressing. I think most people who say that The Cure is ALL dark and depressing are really only familiar with Disintegration. There are some good and upbeat songs by The Cure. The new wave stuff that Blinken referred to falls into that category IMO. Though there are still some goth elements I suppose.

Head On The Door
Kiss Me x3
Disintegration
Wish

That 4 album stretch is definitely the high point of their career. Excellent work. Wish is my favorite though.

I approve of this. I need to get to know Kiss Me a little better and I dont think ive ever even heard bloodflowers before.

www.utorrent.com (http://www.utorrent.com)
That is where you get your torrent program.

You just download the torrent files, then open them up in utorrent, and it will download real stuff for you.

I use BitTorrent and get my torrents from Mininova. I haven't had a problem yet. Using a torrent site is probably the best thing I've ever done in my life. No hype.

I use Azureus and love it. it also has the IP block filter that keeps out unwanted guests such as labels...

I used to use Azureus, that be better for Salah acctually since it has the IP block built in and he wouldn't have to use PeerGaurdian. I would still recommend PeerGaurdian 2 anyways as double protection. I just found that utorrent was less taxing on system resources than Azureus. I still loved Azureus though.

They also have Matisyahu and Michael Franti and Spearhead. A few others but not much. I think it's $40 each day. Here's to AZ getting the LIPS!!

Bloodflowers is an excellent record as well, and sounds a lot like that mid-era of the Cure, even though it was released in 2000. Good stuff.

Really? I thought it was easily their worst album. What are the best songs on it?

Disintegration is their best without question. Pornography, Kiss Me X 3 and Wish are also great. Why is everyone overlooking Pornography?

Freshly minted Flaming Lips rumor culled from a newspaper in Manchester found here: http://bonnaroo.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=music&action=display&thread=16584

Um, so back to The Cure... For me, it goes:

Pornography
Wish
Disintegration

And I've been listening to 4:13 Dream a lot lately, which I find to be pretty damn good itself. I just want them to come out under the Coachella sky and open with Underneath the Stars... I'll be in another dimension.

THANK YOU! Dear Lord... I thought I was crazy or something. How is no one else talking about this.

I've been thinking about this all day too. How could that fuck up THAT badly. Someone on inforoo said they called the local machester radiostation... and the DJ said the newspaper was the first she heard of it too. She told that person to call back tomorrow and in the meantime she would dig up info. Some tomorrow, hopefully we will know whether its a fuck up or if they just leaked The Flaming Lips playing Bonnaroo.

I will die if the FLips are there.

Well that is lovely. Where did that take place? And why was I sitting on my ass at home as it happened?

That was from Sasquatch 2008. The second best show I have ever seen in my entire life. It was during their cover of Led Zeppelin's "The Song Remains The Same." Before the song, Wayne Coyne told a story of when he was a child, he imagined everytime Led Zeppelin played this song at a concert EVERYONE in the audience would take off their clothes, get naked and run around! So, some naked girls rushed the stage.

Anyways, enough talking. Here is a video of it. (Taken by the lovely and dashing ivankay himself...)

So speaking of additions... I still fully plan on Kings of Leon being added. Naturally I'm not going to still out for that Allmans addition, but it's still in the cards, and there's a bit of hope in me.

But should I be holding out for Sun Kil Moon or Spiritualized at all still? Seeing as they were so strongly rumored (or even quasi-confirmed) but didn't show up last week? I would really kill for either... particularly the former...

I don't really know the history of Roo additions. But I know that last year there were a hell of a lot. Was that unusual?

i have a mirror. i'm thinking Canadians must use "lovely" and "dashing" in a drastically different way than the rest of the English speaking world.

i'm not going to the Roo because life gets in the way, but Flaming Lips would make not going hurt that much more. They take live performances to a seriously ridiculous level that only a very few could hope to match. Even if you don't know one song (paul), i can't see someone not getting caught up in the magic.

If the Lips were the anticipated Saturday headliner for Coachella most of us are hoping for, expect a release of poo into my underpants.

One of my favorite parts of The Flamips Lips at Sasquatch 08, was watching the transformatoin of the guy beside me. I don't know what he was doing up so close, but leading up the the FLips where everyone was laughing and talking. He was standing there, crossed armed with a frown. When they started, he kept the same face a stature! I couldn't believe it. A giant dance part was happening around him... and he stood there looking pissed off. About 3 or 4 songs in. His arms dropped to his side, and the frown was gone. Now he just looked like he was slightly bored. Another 3 songs later, he had a small smile and he was bobbing his head. Another couple songs, the smile had grown and he was kinda moving. A few minutes later he started jumping around dancing looking like he was the happiest motherfucker on the planet. It was amazing to see what someones music could do to someone. It truly was a magical performance.

Of course, I love the lips! The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi are two of my favorite albums.

mike you should hit up rothbury with me if the lineup is good ..... would make a killer camera trip .... cr****

The location looks cool. But one of the screwy things in these weird economic times is not being able to get off of werk due to tight staffing. They know i don't werk for them during Coachella, but it doesn't stop the occasional griping about not having me there. Unless i don't werk for my fine company in the near future, taking a lot of time off is not likely.
