You learned nothing from yesterday. All download links are one click. :nono

sure they are... if you already have soundforge downloaded, and are already registered on the site, and already have the torrent agent/toolbar installed, and if you don't need to reformat the FLAC to mp3 to play on your portable device, then yes they are all one click :rolleyes

So, yes, it is almost impossible to compare Coachella and Bonnaroo. Different energy, different beasts at different points.

And yea, camping at Bonnaroo makes camping @ Coachella look like nothing.

But yea, you can't mess with the freedom and the late night. People everywhere were extra rad (for the most part) as long as the had the energy to spare it.

Weather: damn awesome in my opinion, and to most vets I had talked to.

Thursday stormed, but I was looking forward to a bit of one, so it was cool that it happend the 1st day. Actually, talked to a lady working at the airport on monday who said Tornado warnings were afoot, they stopped the country fest early cause of it.

Friday, rained a lil bit, not too bad though. Sat & Sun. had early morning mists, and rolling clouds to keep the sun away for spots at a time.

Aww that sucks Zizzles...I hope you recover soon.

I posted this in the NIN thread as well.

Well kids, get ready for a decent Trent Reznor interview unlike the Digg conversation we had earlier this year.

The best rock n' roll talk show in the country is interviewing Trent this week. I highly recommend listening to this pod cast on a regular basis. If you look you will see they get great artists in, just scroll down and look at the left side of the page. Radiohead, Wilco, Moby, Feist, Arcade Fire, Lips etc. etc. You get the idea. You can go back and listen to all of the shows too, they are stored on the site and they are in podcast format for easy downloading. You can also go into Itunes podcasts and subscribe to it so you have it every week. We are all music geeks and I would be shocked if you don't find this show enjoyable each and every week from reviews to interveiws to industry discussion, ticketmaster wars and the club scene.

Show #186: 06.19.09
Last year Trent Reznor was one of music’s biggest revolutionaries. Now he joins Jim and Greg in the studio for a conversation about the record industry, alternative nostalgia and even Chris Cornell.

http://www.soundopinions.org/

For those that can't get enough of Trent photo's here is a link to a bunch of pictures of him sitting in a chair during the interview.

All the shows are up for a while after as well. This podcast should be posted Friday sometime.

I'm just thankful I got to witness You Enjoy Myself with my own two eyes, is that so wrong? Hahaha... I ended up watching only about half or less of Phish's total time at Bonnaroo, and that and Tweezer were probably the only songs I ended up seeing that I knew beforehand. I also listened to Chalkdust Torture and The Divided Sky from my campsite. I would have loved to have seen Fluffhead, though...

Sorry for not calling you yesterday, I forgot. I was so fucking tired, once i got on the 91 I pulled into a Jack In the Box and took a long nap(6 hours or so), then I got home around 10am.

I'm home safe. I'll post a review, and pics once I'm not feeling tired

The first time, I knew it was coming.you called me sushy 2 times officially, and 2 sneaky times. For a grand total of 4. so all I gotta say to you tommy is Lloyd, SHUT THE FUCK UP!. Dylan, I loved giving you a hug, gave me a boner the first time. Salah, i'm guessing you didn't like the beard? It was itchy as fuck on sat and sunday. I wanted to rip my face off.

No need to be scared of me Salah, but at least now you know. I'm the easiest going guy in the world. I just like having fun, and chilling.

I called you Sushy. Not sure how many times though. I don't think I learned your real name until Saturday or something. I don't even remember it now.

I still have trouble with Salah. I sometimes put the accent on the first syllable. I hope that's not too offensive Salah.

You sensitive fucks and your names. You could call me asshole all weekend and i wouldn't give a fuck. It's a music fest. we are all having fun right? Stop being such Mary's about this shit. I've been called "faxy" a zillion times.

Actually, I shouldn't even accuse Salah of being sensitive about that. He simply corrected a pronunciation which is more than acceptable. I still love you Salah :) Not that I don't love you Sushy but don't take these little nick names as an insult you know? :pulse

I dont mind in the very least bit, Mark. You have to keep in mind people have been mispronouncing my name all my life so im way used to it. I usually dont even correct people, thats how much it doesnt bother me. I noticed Amy doing the same thing with my name but its no biggie! Although I do have to admit that I notice instantly when someone pronounces it correctly. Tito (Tupper on here) said my name so perfectly it made me zone out whenever he called my name.

Sushy, clearly I respected your wish to not be called that but I have the hardest time figuring out why you hate that name so much. Theres nothing negative connected to it, not even in the slightest way. Im just curious buddy

Cool man. I don't want to offend people and when we have such a huge group of people it's hard enough to keep the board names and real names straight. I know what you mean about people who say it correct though. I'm always impessed when people pronounce my last name right. :cat

Mark, how do you pronounce your last name? I'm always impressed when people get my last name right, as well. It's Sena. The "E" is pronounced like you're saying "end" or "sent." So phonetically, it's something like Senn-uh. Some people say Say-nuh. That's just silly.

LOL I might have been one of those users at one time...Now I'm opposite, which isn't always a good thing if I ignore crucial updates, etc. The worst trait I have on a computer is when I start taking on the appearance of Dani's avatar trying to remedy what I fucked up in the first place! When I run into down loading problems, it's usually due to lack of patience, and abundance of idiocy. Quite honestly, if I could add System Restore to my friends list, you'd see it there, no doubt! Yah somehow he had a glow one at Oakenfold...I think.

I realized you need to go to Bonnaroo with a solid group of people. I couldn't have done it without you guys! We all helped each other in so many ways. I would be scared to go at it alone. So nice to wake up every morning and see everyone's faces, or know that someone was still awake at the break of dawn if you needed a place to snuggle. I miss it so so so much! I feel like the Roo is like Coachella, I could go every year no matter the lineup. There is just SO much to do.

Jason, I fail more -- I took *1* picture at roo. The glow guys. :nono

You guys think the weather at roo was bad? we got lucky -- the weather got a LOT worse this week, crazy torrential raining and tornadoes for the last couple of days. As for the Bonnaroo weather versus Coachella, I do not deal well with heat, and I thought it was fine. Sure, I was very warm, but the free cold water helped substantially. I danced a helluva lot more at Roo than I do at Coachella, both during the day and night. And it was nice not to freeze at night. :)

Sushov, I think/hope I didn't call you Sushy. I never caught how to say your board name, so I tried to stay with your real one. Salah, I keep flip flopping on your name, and I can imagine it's frustrating for people to say it incorrectly. I get annoyed even with my last name.

Dead Body Found by Cleaning Crew at Bonnaroo (http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/06/18/dead-body-found-by-cleaning-crew-at-bonnaroo-site/)

The death marks the seventh in Bonnaroo’s eight-year history, the Shelbyville Times-Gazette reports. Of those seven deaths, two were the result of drug overdoses in 2004 and one was caused by sleep apnea and possibly drug use in 2005. A Bonnaroo worker was killed when he was thrown from a truck, and one festivalgoer was struck by Ricky Skaggs’ tour bus in 2006.

I would have preferred the polo grass. This was like damp stick grass. The polo field is much softer and has much less mud and garbage on it. :)

I thought the Which stage looked like a city dump by Friday afternoon. Bonnaroo could benefit from a recycle or bottled water program, I never saw so many paper plates and empty plastic bottles.

Amen to that. I really feel it we got lucky with the weather. It was pretty ok despite the humidity. If it felt 30 degrees warmer I wouldn't be in the "i can't wait to go back mood". The weather was tolerable but I would not be comfortable with it much hotter.

I love storms and enjoyed falling asleep in my cool tent with the pouring rain on Thursday night.

Mark, I think they had a recycle program, but where is the incentive when there is free water? :)

Coachella does a lot of cleanup each day/night when they kick us out of the venue. Being a 24 hour venue probably limits their cleanup efforts somewhat. I did see staff picking up garbage each day.

It's kind of pathetic that people need to be cleaned up after, how hard is it to walk your garbage over to a trash can?

You would think hippies would love the Earth enough to clean up their shit. Apparently not.

My review is forthcoming. It's going to be sizable in length and girth with a lot of photo documentation, and some video. May take me a few days to write up though and get everything resized and uploaded.

Word...I saw they had the main stage fenced off early on during Saturday for cleanup. Around 12-1pm you couldn't go near the main stage or so it seemed. It was empty and people were picking up trash.

I see your point about the free water everywhere, so maybe that was it. It's sad that people couldn't walk to a garbage can.

I will let you know for sure. I am considering making it it's own thread because I pulled 90(!) pictures from the group that I took that I feel should be included. Along with that I have a number of videos I need to upload to youtube. I dont really want to bog down this thread with a shit ton of pictures, so perhaps I should give it some space of it's own.

Yeah. I will do that. The review is basically going to include everything about the festival and the trip to and from the festival, so I figure it is appropriate.

The recycle program they had at roo was done in points. For every can or bottle or whatever you brought in you received a point, who ever had the most points at the end of the fest, received ( I believe) a VIP pass for next year. That is what one kid told me as he asked if he could have my empties.

Weird. I admit, I thought a bunch of hippies would clean up after themselves better. But I am not sure there were actually many hippies there, just lots of people who wear tie dye and hemp and listen to jam bands, if you know what I mean.

My only real disappointment of the weekend, at all, was the food, I had hoped for this type of festival that there would be a lot more vegetarian food choices (or even vegan). Admittedly I never went into the actual cafe because it was always crowded and I was always eating WHILE watching music. ;)

The burritos are made right in front of you. I had corn, hummus, lettuce, tomato and.....other stuff I can't remember. No cheese. I also had a veggie burger falafal. I didn't eat a veggie quesadilla this weekend.

Hey guys! Just got back from Nashville at 3am last night. My flight in Houston was delayed by 3 hours... but that is not what is important. BONNAROO!!! I had such a blast at Bonnaroo. I didn't even touch any drugs and I had an amazing weekend. Becky did as well. I love all you guys and miss you too! I will write a review later, probably sometime tomorrow. Just to let you all know, Becky and I had a great time in Nashville after Bonnaroo too. I did get very sick Tuesday night and I still feel sick now, but I don't even care. I miss Bonnaroo and all you guys already. I would love to attend Bonnaroo again one day, but next time it will be lineup pending.

Before I go though, I just need to leave a couple comments...

Shout out to Josh and Becky for the PANCAKE!!!

It was the most wholesome thing I ate all weekend :D

Thanks again, you guys are a great couple!

Thanks D! It was awesome actually being able to talk and hang out with ya, as oposed to a quick "hello" like at Coachella. Glad you enjoyed the pancakes! I also like all the pictures of me cooking Friday morning in my PJ's.

The important thing here is the need for more pictures of Tommy's boa (no, not that boa) and 'cakes half naked raving :D

I have a picture of Tommy half-nakes raving. It will be posted in due time.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3598/3637282430_d48dc88647.jpg

This picture is too fantastic.

ALSO... I can't believe how few of you are talking about how amazing NIN were. Seriously. I just read every single post of this thread since I left my last post before leaving for Bonnaroo, and not ONE person mentioned that NIN played for 2 hours and 15 minutes. 2 HOURS AND 15 FUCKING MINUTES. I was doubtful NIN were even gonna play the 2 hours they were given, but they played overtime. That set was without a doubt the set of the weekend. If nothing else, that made the whole trip worth it.

Intense, surreal, rejuvenating, epic.... worth it.

So Bonnacrew, is Bonnaroo Coachella-like in the sense that you buy advance tickets without knowing the lineup and go every year because it's guaranteed to be an amazing experience every time?

(Please note that's not meant to be a direct comparison but an overall festival experience reference point.)

for me, the answer is a definate yes!!! this is my second bonnaroo (been to coachella in 07), and it has everything to offer that im looking for. longer set times, more freedom, late nights kill it, and more options for fun (comedy tent, cinema, fountain, silent disco, ferris wheel, and not as many snobby cali people (no offense if youre from cali, or are snobby)). to each their own, but for me it will always be the roo!!!!!!

unless coachella can just come up with a killer line-up

btw, nice meeting those of you that i did. fax, my phone died shortly after i found you guys.

I am pretty sure neither you nor Aaron have met Adam, so thinking you can accurately judge his level of "hipsterness" is a bit absurd. This thread moves really fast and I can see how a lot of people that did not go to Roo would not have an interest in reading the thread except for reviews to see what people thought or to see how it stacked up to Coachella. Otherwise this thread is usually just drug talk, which doesn't appeal to a lot of people, so that explains their absence in here.

DUDE! I love how you have Crystal Castles here. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks they're amazing live. Everyone always talks about how horrible they are... but I saw their set at Coachella and was blown away by how intense it was (in a good way). And so I had to see them at Bonnaroo to see if I was crazy or if it was just that one show. But I saw their first song and I loved it just the same. I thought I must be crazy.

I had a ton of fun at Crystal Castles. I couldn't stop dancing. I saw the set alone and Im pretty sure everyone else around me was on something, but I didn't care. I loved it. The crowd had great energy and they sounded great. Her voice certainly wasn't anywhere near as anoying as everyone said it was. I heard no "dying cat" or "screeching." Yes, there was a lot of yelling. But, to a certain extent, I am a fan of screaming. Her vocals don't have as many effects live as they do on album, but it still worked. Hahaha, I kept waiting for Untrust Us at Coachella too, and I decided to leave a couple songs early cause they weren't playing it... But yeah the real reason I loved that Coachella set so much was because I was with all my friends, who are much bigger fans of them then I am, and they were just going nuts and having the times of their lives... and the crowd energy around us was just insane, it really went well with the music... so I guess it's the same experience when you're alone too!

I rarely answer my phone and texts at shows because I put my phone in my bag (I tend to lose it if it's in a pocket because I dance like a freak).

Josh and Ryan, I'm glad you enjoyed CC. I feel like I've taken a lot of shit for saying I enjoy them live, but I do and have always had a good time during their shows. I was actually going to see them again at Roo, but they went on pretty late, and I was starting to feel like if I didn't start dancing right away I would crash and want to sleep. So I heard someone mention PE and remembered they were playing...

I don't think I really have a top 5 list for the weekend. Byrne was by far the best for me, and Phoenix was my biggest surprise. Everything else I saw ranged from "fine" to "excellent".

They sound decent.

I enjoyed Phoenix, but I didn't have the same experience as everyone else. I felt a little cramped and just wanted to roam around for a bit. I left early, walked around, grabbed a beer, and went to Femi Kuti. What I heard from Phoenix was pretty good, though.

That's a shame, Tommy. (That you didn't enjoy it so much -- not that you went to Femi). Some of us met up for Phoenix, made our way through the crowd (about soundstage area) and danced the whole set. We had enough space and it was so much fun.

I'm really looking forward to seeing them next week. :)

I enjoyed it, it just wasn't what I was feeling at the time. It has nothing to do with Phoenix because they sounded really good. I'm glad everyone was having a great time. :)

It really seems that, as time goes by, I'm less able to deal with crowds. I prefer watching most every show from further back where I have some space.

Tommy, I can be put off by crowds, and frequently don't like to be in the middle of them at shows, but the crowds for Roo were pretty great. I think it helped that I was intent on dancing all weekend.

No, I was in "Music Festival Mode." I don't really like having responsibility while I'm at a fest. And, no offense, I don't like my phone blowing up at a fest. But it's all good.

Anyway, my top 5:

1. Nine Inch Nails
2. Grizzly Bear
3. Dirty Projectors
4. Rodrigo y Gabriela
5. BeastieBoysDavidByrne

None taken, glad you had fun in whatever mode you would like to call it. Just be honest with me next time and let me know you don't want to hang, I won't get offended if someone doesn't want to get to befriend me and hang out. It just would have saved a couple text charges on my bill next time. Didn't mean to give you responsibility of holding onto my posters for me, next time just be honest, and let me know you didn't feel comfortable holding onto them for me. Just be honest, honesty is key in life. But it's all good.

So the central thesis is that I should be honest? Am I understanding this correctly?

Listen, I don't mind hanging out with anyone at a music festival. I was with people most of the time there. But it's kind of weird when I wake up to text messages wondering where I am and acting annoyed because I won't answer. I had my phone in my car and was just chillin in the campground. If I don't answer a text then there's a good chance I'm not able to for whatever reason. If I wake up to multiple texts then I'll just get annoyed and I'll be less likely to want to hang out. You have good intentions, and you're a nice dude, but ease up a little bit when people are on vacation and pretty much going at their own pace.

Oh, but of course. Being as close as we were, to see the intensity and emotion in Trent's face as he choked out the lyrics to Hurt... sigh... I felt like SUCH an Emo Jerk after that set. It was moving to say the very least.

But yeah, I knew hands down Bboys into PE would leave me speechless (it literally did, I rapped my voice out)... and I expected to love Bon Iver... but Badu's set was one that hit me from left field and pleased me most. Moments like that are what make festivals completely special.

Oh of course, I definately understand. Bonnaroo is happy kaos, I even had a hard time getting a hold of my own mother! She was partying it up, you should've seen it.

My favorite bonnaroo moment had to have been when I was searching frantically for regular lemonade. I ran to two booths that had lemonade in big letters written on their booths, only to find out that they only sold frozen lemonade. By the time I had made it to the 3rd booth, I was exhausted and tired and cranky. (I refused to take a bite of my pizza before I had my lemonade in hand) I shouted out in an asshole manner,

"jesus christ, what does a guy have to do to get a regular lemonade around here!!??" - THH

"Bend over and I'll show you" - guy shouted out behind the grill

I glanced over at him and shouted "BONNAROOOOOoooOO!"

I laughed about it with him and a handful of people and tipped him, cause that joke was worth, at the very least, a couple dollars.

I seriously got choked up during "Hurt." It was intense. The fact that it was at 3:15 am, the lights, Trent singing his ass off, everyone in the crowd singing along. It was one of those music moments that simply can't be replicated.

As far as my biggest surprise. It was Dirty Projectors. Easily. I think very few of us saw that show. I was hanging out with Brandon during the set. I saw Gonshman and Chris (trancehiphop) there too.

Another set I haven't mentioned was White Rabbits. My first set of the weekend. That wasn't a bad choice at all. I enjoyed it.

My favorite moment(s) during that last day of the weekend was Feather advising Barbara NOT to wear shorts under her super-short mini-Harry Potter dress only to have airport security later on tell Barbara she needed to wear shorts or Southwest wouldn't let her on the plane because she wasn't carrying herself in a ladylike manner (she had to bend over to get her luggage a few times...). :thu

The security guard said something about Southerners being more proper than people from LA and how Southwest's employees were complaining about Barbara's outfit. I told Barbara to ask for the policy in writing. It was much ado about nothing, though, because it seems like she got on the plane just fine. Methinks that was just his opinion and not an actual policy, but I could be mistaken.

Frankly, I'd rather talk about handjobs or PLUR or whatever for 5 pages than this tired old board vs. nu-board bullshit again. Moving on . . .

The more I think about it, the more I realize how little of my enjoyment of Bonnaroo was derived from the music. To go again, I'd definitely need a better lineup (or better scheduled one) than this year's or a group as good as the one we had. Music wise, it was kind of a let down after Friday night for me. Granted I missed quite a bit of bands I wanted to see due to exhaustion/drugs, but still, the fact that there was nothing important enough for me to overcome my exhaustion on those days speaks to how poorly things were scheduled. I said it on the farm, but I really don't think they take advantage of the fact that they have the ability to run 24 hours enough. Why schedule good bands at 1pm in the heat when you can run shit so late? Why have the unopposed headliners when it's going to create clusterfuck conflicts and make people bake in the sun to see Erykah Badu or something? Considering most of us couldn't get motivated to go into the fest until mid-afternoon, it seems reasonable enough to start things a couple hours later and save everyone some heat exhaustion.

While I had a lot of fun at the shows I saw, the music was only part of the fun for me. I'm glad I waited until this year to go. If I'd gone alone (or with one of my flaky friends), I doubt I'd have enjoyed it much at all. While I am definitely not going to be going every year... I'm hoping the lineup is solid enough to entice me again.

Though... isn't 2010 our boardie glastonbury year? :)

And by all means, let's talk about handjobs or PLUR rather than who is elitist regarding his or her board usage.

1. David Byrne
2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3. Public Enemy
4. TV On The Radio
5. DJ hawkingsvsreeves

I wish I could have caught more of Femi Kuti but the 15 minutes I did see were simply amazing. I only caught one song of Phoenix, but it sounded good. BOSS TIME was a pretty pleasant surprise. Of Montreal sounded great, but we all just laid in the grass listening about half a mile away. Badu was nice, but the sun was killing me. Murs was the best thing I saw on Thursday. He has great stage presence. Everything I heard from Phish was fucking boring. I wish I would have caught more of Bon Iver, but the tent was fucking packed. I did a lot of wandering and caught a song or two from a lot of bands on Sat/Sun.
